Heavy weapons are currently a mess in PvE.

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:28 PM PDT

DISCLAIMER: THIS POST DOES NOT ADVOCATE FOR NERFS OF ANY KIND

Heavy weapons are in an incredibly imbalanced state currently, and always have been during D2. Across the life cycle of d2, different legendary heavy archetypes have all had their time to shine, always being the clear pick over others before getting nerfed to irrelevancy.

    • Cluster bomb Rocket Launchers and Machine Guns (just Thunderlord to be honest) were clearly the best heavy options when auto-reloading was in the game. Then... they got nuked. Rockets got nuked two times over when auto-reloading was removed due to only having one rocket per magazine and proving to have awful damage.

    • Grenade Launchers gained immense popularity after their two separate buffs, becoming absolute DPS monsters. Then they got nerfed as well, becoming just "okay" and being outclassed by exotics as usual.

    • Linear Fusion Rifles have never been good. Even after the precision damage was buffed, they were still always outclassed by exotics, other legendary heavies, and even special weapons.

    • The current in-demand legendary heavy option is Swords, which are only usable in certain scenarios as thet are extremely close-up weapons. This makes them far more niche than any option listed above, but since legendary heavies are as lackluster as they are, swords are the clear go-to whenever possible.

Constant nerfs to different heavies in the past have reduced the power of legendary heavy weapons across the board, leaving exotic heavies to be overwhelmingly better than legendary options in every way and reducing most legendary heavies to throaway picks in strikes and lower-end PvE activities when you want to run an exotic primary or special weapon.

My suggestion is to buff ALL standard heavy archetypes (excluding swords) in some way. List below:

MACHINE GUNS: Revert the boss damage nerf. Auto reloading is gone, and that was the sole reason behind the nerf, so the fact that the boss damage is still reduced makes very little sense.

ROCKET LAUNCHERS: 2 rockets in the standard chamber (except Wardcliff), with a 1-2 increase to reserves. However, as a more creative change, the Aggressive and Adaptive frames could hold 2 in the chamber, while High-Impact frames retain 1 in exchange for a major damage increase.

GRENADE LAUNCHERS: These aren't in a terrible spot post-nerf, being the second best heavy option. A small damage increase overall would work. Alternatively, base GL damage could increase overall and the impact damage bonus from Spike Grenades could be toned down slightly to open up for different perk usage.

LINEAR FUSIONS: Anything. Please, these are so bad. They can't even one-shot to the body in PVP.

The post is done. TL;DR balance heavies please

Here’s a fun way to ruin someone’s day in Savathun’s Song .ft Ruinous Effigy

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:10 AM PDT

So I was running Savathun's Song for the Titan weekly bounty. I don't really like the strike, so to make the strike more fun, I was using Ruinous Effigy. When me and two other blueberries reached the first void charge area, as I watched a warlock run around, void charge in hand, I had an idea, a rather devilish idea. At the next void charge, I quickly dispatched the witch in front of me with Ruinous. As you know, both the void charge and transmutation sphere look extremely similar, so the blueberries, not realizing the trick, charged in, transmutation in hand. They sped passed through the hordes, and into two shielded shriekers. They must have expected a quick dunk to dispatch of those, but they were in for a nasty treat. They blankly stared into the deposit, and then died to the shriekers of doom. This antiques also occurred at the boss- I camped the witch faster then the blueberry could realise the ploy. They grabbed on, and charged, not realizing they fell for the same trick again, and proceeded to get shredded by the boss and witches. This is probably the most fun I've had in a strike in ages.

Bungie Plz Addition: Make Warlock Bonds More Cosmetically Distinct & Appealing

    Hello Guardians,

This topic has been added to Bungie Plz.
Going forward, all posts suggesting this change will be removed and redirected to this Megathread.

    Date approved: 07/15/20

    Modmail Discussion:

u/OpaMils: "Why it should be added: Just about every other day there is a thread for this topic. Its always the same regurgitated ideas. D2 Bonds are in a bad spot for the most part. There are a few good ones (Ancient Apocalypse, The Dawning Bonds) but that doesn't excuse the vast majority that are trash. I am a Warlock main and I loathe the day bonds are removed and we get something dumb like a satchel or books on our hips which has been suggested before. A warlocks real class item that defines them is their robe or duster/trench coat for a chest piece."

    Examples given: 1, 2, 3

    Criteria Used:

"...3 examples (with links) of recent submissions (with at least 1 being over 5 days old), that have been well received (hundreds of upvotes on the front page of the sub - ex. 300+ upvotes)."

As a warlock, I hope the new subclass has the ability to buff the team so I won't be expected to run well for everything endgame PvE

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 08:26 PM PDT

I love running well sometimes. It buffs the team and is often what's best. I do get sick of being expected to do it in raids, nightfalls and other endgame PvE. I love running slowva and I love chaos reach. I hope the new subclass has a way to benefit the team as much as the well so there may be some endgame options.

Did a short Resilience test in PvE

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 06:49 AM PDT

Resilience has been the laughing stock of the six stats for PvE, but if we do the numbers, will it turn out to be a useful stat after all?

    No, it won't.

TL;DR: Resilience barely does anything between Tier 0 and 10, and it literally doesn't do anything between various Tiers in between that. Recovery is better at making sure you can tank hits for longer before going down in practical situations.

    -----

Part of the reason why I did this test is because I was under some confirmation bias thinking higher resilience actually helped me survive dangerous situations more. In addition, to my knowledge Resilience used to offer 1% Shield increase per tier in Shadowkeep, but next time I checked the numbers changed to be slightly higher than that. Perhaps I was mistaken before, but needless to say I just got curious.

In game description benefit of Resilience:

Tier 0 0% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 1 1% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 2 2% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 3 3% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 4 4% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 5 5% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 6 6% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 7 8% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 8 10% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 9 12% Shield Capacity Increase
Tier 10 13% Shield Capacity Increase

My initial intention was to test it against a single enemy only. A melee enemy, so I could easily count the amount of hits I could take. I went to Shaft-13 in the EDZ, killed all the enemies except for the single Wretch that spawns and let him kill me over and over at every Resilience level.

Here are the results of that:

    Tier Hits Until Death Notes
Tier 0 11 6 hits to break shield
    Tier 1 11
    Tier 2 11
    Tier 3 11
    Tier 4 11
    Tier 5 11
    Tier 6 11
    Tier 7 11
    Tier 8 11
Tier 9 11 No blinking health
Tier 10 12 7 hits to break shield

Keep in mind that, in absence of health regenrating effects, health always recovers first, then a delay occurs, followed by shield recovery. This means that Tier 9 is in fact more beneficial against this enemy than the tiers below it, because your recovery will be quite a bit faster. Of course, Recovery achieves this even quicker anyway, but it should be mentioned.

With this enemy it was very difficult to even see any visual change to the health bar among the tiers. So I opted to test it again against a different enemy: the Hobgoblin in the Nessus Lost Sector. Here are the results of that:

    Tier Hits Until Death Notes
Tier 0 7 4 hits to break shield
    Tier 1 7
    Tier 2 7
    Tier 3 7
    Tier 4 8
    Tier 5 8
    Tier 6 8
    Tier 7 8
    Tier 8 8
Tier 9 8 No blinking health
Tier 10 8 5 hits to break shield

Resilience seems a little bit more useful here since you can survive an extra shot much earlier in the Tier ranges (4). Additionally, the hobgoblin had much more easy to discern differences in my health bar between various tiers, especially the later ones.

Needless to say, this is still not very tempting to invest in for PvE. So I decided to test one final mob: the dreg. Back to Shaft-13.

I could not actually get the Dreg to kill me at any tier level. They miss a lot, letting Recovery kick in (even at 0 Recovery) and if they did not miss a lot they start throwing their grenade at some point causing too much of a delay also. So I opted to just check the hits I took before they broke my shield.

It was so tedious to check, I just committed to checking two values: 0 Resilience and 10.

0 Resilience took 21 shots to break my shield. 10 Resilience took 23.

In conclusion, I am no longer under the impression Resilience helps me survive much more than usual. It is worth noting, although most people already know this, Recovery adds more health in a fraction of a second if you just don't get shot for a small amount of time, than Resilience adds with 10 extra tiers.

With my initial test against the dreg, if he missed me one too many times and Recovery kicked in; even at 0 Recovery I was able to take 29 shots instead of 21. That's 8 shots more, 6 more shots than the difference between 0 and 10 Resilience.

Higher Recovery rates grant faster initial health regen and faster health recovery both. So high Recovery basically outperforms high Resilience in being able to withstand damage, with the sole exception of being shot continuously with not a second of breathing room. And even then, it appears it only lets you survive 1 extra shot from non-trash mob enemies.

Question raised by this test is that I wonder if Resilience somehow stacks multiplicatively with resistance mods and would make it more worthwhile then. But at this point I am only wondering if that would make it better than near-useless. I am convinced in its current state it won't outperform Recovery no matter what.

EDIT: Out of curiosity I very quickly and in limited capacity tested Striking Light; Season of Dawn armor mod. The second part of the perk states it grants damage resistence against combatants while sprinting. I sprinted against the wall. only at Tier 3 Resilience and only against the Hobgoblin.

It broke my shield at 5 hits and killed me at 10. That is significantly better than Tier 10 Resilience on Tier 3. Could be worth it depending on your build.

    I become a reckoner...

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 06:13 PM PDT

And all it took was me losing my job, my house and my wife.

Totally worth it as I never ever have to go into a game of gambit prime ever again.

A few things I learned about prime in solo queueing.

    1. They don't care if you have the full set on. They are going to do whatever the hell they want. You have the invader set on... Good luck getting through that portal before xxnoscope360xx goes through.

    2. When xxnoscope360xx goes through he will be running a shotgun... He will also die straight away.

    3. If you need to drain the bank of the enemy team good luck getting through there before the other team summon their prime evil.

    4. Need those locksmith medals? Wear a full set of of sentry gear and your team will clear all blockers before you get a chance to. Take that set off... Ain't no one shooting a blocker.

    5. Massacre medals... I'm actually still suffering from PTSD getting these. So much so I go to sleep wearing a crown of tempest.

    6. Collector medals... Half banked... Your teams will normally be half baked.

    7. Wear that full collector set and people will hoover up them motes quicker than a Henry/Henrietta sixty nine.

    8. I miss my job.

    9. I don't miss my wife.

When you get a shader once it should stop dropping

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:38 AM PDT

Turning in weapon parts to the gunsmith to get rolls, only to have to go to my post master and go through everything before it gets knocked out because half of it is full of shaders is annoying.

We have collections. If we have received a shader and want more of it there is already an easy solution to do that.

Despite any other flaws Destiny sometimes has, the raid content is always phenomenal even at its worst

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 06:04 PM PDT

The current state of the world has really given me some extra appreciation for raids and other difficult content, even though I already had plenty of love before.

I haven't been in public since March 13th, and my wife has been working 80-100 hours per week in a group home because of the need for constant staff right now. So I've been stuck inside alone, and have taken the time to really get the most out of this game in the meantime.

I started with getting all of the raid titles, with Petra's Run being the crowning achievement, but I decided I wanted more than that.

Today with the completion of a flawless Spire of Stars, I have completed all 7 raids in the game flawlessly, and it feels incredible. Having the farmable loot helps, but I would have kept doing these raids over and over and over again even without the loot. They're just such a wonderful experience.

I'm mildly disappointed about them going away with content vaulting. I can handle losing the planets, campaigns, and strikes etc. But losing Raids feels very wrong to me. I hope Bungie one day reconsiders or at least brings them back for an Age of Triumph like event.

Melee registration need to be addressed, it’s been far too long.

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 03:46 PM PDT

Hello, everyone. I usually never post on the subreddit I'm more of an observer. But today I want to talk about something that has been very frustrating to deal with. Melee hit registration. Since destiny 1, if you happen to press the melee button when your ennemie is moving too fast; both horizontally and vertically you put yourself in a position where your gardian will execute a proper melee animation, will reach the target but won't hit. This happens a lot more in pvp than pve and I've been dealing with this the past 10 pvp games and can't stress enough how annoying it is. Those are the kind of bug we've been told to deal with because "it's how the game is" but it has to change. Those are the kind of thing that can determine whether or not you can win and engagement in Trial/Elimination. Imagine playing ToO, being at your 7th game and losing a 1v1 because a hunter jumped too high with St0mp-EE5 and your gardian decided that he can't reach him even though he execute the animation. Yes, this just happened to me. I don't know about you guys but if I'm not supposed to hit a melee, i don't want to see the animation. Either this, or just fix the melee reg.
