To the madman who was chain-running SoS last weekend to help folks get their Luxurious Toast emote - thanks!

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:04 AM PDT

I wasn't expecting much when I saw spire boss first timers only in the app. I joined figuring that it'd be an amusing disaster, and was surprised to get both a game and party invite in seconds; in less than a minute we were zoning in. "What should I bring, loadout-wise?" I asked, trying to be a good citizen. The voice that answered was gruff, calm and almost monosylabic: "Wardcliff".

"Okay," I said, "I'm a titan. Do we need a bubble? How do you want me spec'd?"

"Wardcliff" came the answer, which was good for laughs all around. The encounter explanation was almost as short: four plates, three symbols, throw when you're told to throw, shoot when you're told to shoot. "I'll have you out of here in about twelve minutes," he said, which seemed too good to be true. We wiped the first time because there's always someone who can't follow instructions, but the second try - bam, down the Valus went. In the end the prediction had been a little too good to be true... but not by much. It had taken sixteen minutes, not twelve.

All our sherpa asked in return was that we drop group and party quickly. He wanted to get another post up; according to him, he did this twenty or thirty times a day and given his proficiency I believed it. I tried messaging him to find out why: was it for stats on an emblem? Out of the goodness of his heart? Had he made some kind of vow? He never responded, so I'll never know - he was probably too busy running more bemused Spire virgins through the encounter, getting them an emote they never thought they'd have.

Whatever the reason, thanks homie. I don't know why you're the man, but you are.

    Exotic Cipher: What to Buy

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:25 PM PDT

Since we've gotten another Exotic Cipher sooner than expected, figured I'd make a super quick post outlining each weapon. You can only hold 1 cipher, per account, vaulting doesn't work around that limit.

Edit: if you have all of these? Use it to buy a second fated engram from Xur when he's back on Friday through Monday.

Eriana's Vow: if you don't have it, buy it, period. It has intrinsic anti barrier, solar, and the only hand cannon that uses special ammo. It hits like a truck, and does increased damage as long as you keep hitting precision shots.

Devil's Ruin: unstoppable shot sidearm. Like a baby 1000 voices (last wish fusion rifle, exotic). Useful in some nightfalls with solar shields and unstoppable champs.

Bastion: the only kinetic fusion rifle. No intrinsic champion perks, but has some good potential in PVP (especially on console, according to the console community.)

Leviathan's Breath: an exotic heavy bow. Intrinsic unstoppable. It hits hard, but has a very slow draw/nock speed, and can only hold 10-12 bolts

Symmetry: arc scout rifle. No intrinsic champion perk. Scouts are pretty meh in the game right now. The alternate perk lets the rounds track and can be deadly in PVP in the right hands. In PVE it's just fun.

Hope this helps people have a one stop shop of what to choose for their cipher.

At least we have no cabal on Europa

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:13 AM PDT

Since there isn't any cabal in all the trailer we have seen so far (even the last one), we should assume that we will not face that boys for at least a couple of season. Maybe we will just find some of them in the cosmodrome

So, the real question is, what will be the next "last move" for the Cabal? Or maybe we will face some big guys from Torobatl in the furure?

    P.S: dismantle mines?

Landing the final blow on the Forge Warden is a guaranteed* Prototype Weapon drop

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:33 AM PDT

*In so far as I have been able to test: I started recording drops from forge completions and came to the conclusion after 50 runs that the Prototype Weapons had an insanely low drop rate (8%). That was until I noticed some weird errata in the spreadsheet. Upon testing all the variables I could (Max Temper, Weapon Loadouts, etc...) I came to the conclusion that landing the final blow on the forge warden gave me guaranteed weapon drops. I'm only confident in saying guaranteed because after starting this test I got 7 weapon drops in a row which assuming a binomial distribution has a probability of occurring around 0.00000209715% (0.08^7) This in no way means I couldn't be mistaken, but I'd bet good money that if you want to guarantee Prototype Weapon drops from forge completions, you need to be the one to land the final blow on the boss.

It's funny replaying the Red War campaign during Season of Arrivals

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 04:58 AM PDT

I decided to give it one last run through before it goes away forever.

Sure, the Red War's happening, but it's funny having them not acknowledge the MASSIVE BLACK PYRAMIDS which have landed on a bunch of planets.

It's especially amusing having Ikora standing overlooking the site of the Traveller on Io and talking about having to stop Ghaul and this being the last place the traveller touched, whilst the MASSIVE BLACK PYRAMID is literally doing some kind of funky voodoo to the sacred place she's staring directly at.

Feathered Hunter Cloak Featuring 218 painted Guardians

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:35 PM PDT

Over the past 5 months I've been painting guardians onto feathers to turn into a hunter cloak which is now finally done, and has been dubbed "Memory of Heroes" by another guardian.

    Finished Images

    Making of video

Destiny has had a major impact on my life since I started playing in August last year, and this cloak is my way of saying thank you to the community. I've never felt so welcome and at home in a game's community before and have been loving my time here.

There are a total of 218 painted feathers on the cloak, with each feather having a different person's guardian. Each feather took around 20-25 mins to paint and I painted a few every night to keep the project moving along over a total of around 82 hours. Sewing the cloak and the feathers onto it brought the total up to around 96 hours.

Thank you so much to everyone who got involved with this project by submitting their guardians, and sending me supportive comments. <3

Here is a folder with all the individual feathers I painted. I'd never really painted anything before this so this was a very interesting experience for me and I could definitely see my skills improve with each feather.

Also here are some WIP images I took over time to show the number of feathers growing. <3

(Spoiler) New Europa Trailer and the Deep Stone Crypt/Vex

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:05 AM PDT

    https://imgur.com/VcRtEY3

Image taken from the new trailer and here is what I noticed.

    1. This shot is taken a few moments after we see a factory/assembly line of sorts. Likely related to the Deep Stone Crypt If not a part of It.
    2. We see an Exo Frame and a Vex In what appears to be a tube
    3. Both Robotic beings are linked to a center device in between them. (vex has wires above It and the exo has seems to have something attached to its lower back

What does this all mean? Well I have no idea. But the trailer mentions "Uncover the Truth" and I think this goes beyond the Darkness and could have to do with many theories about the Vex creation and what really happened with the creation of Exos. Any lore masters feel free to add additional info!

Valkyrian Impaler finisher + Wrath of Rasputin creates Warmind cells

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:11 PM PDT

Possibly other solar based finishers might too, but I know for sure the Valkyrian Impaler does.

Edit:Yes I know that weapons, abilities that create solar splash damage create cells, but didn't know that finishers also did, so thought others might not know too.

Also seems not all solar finishers do this, this one in particular qualifies as splash damage.

    Mysteries of the Saturn System

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:58 PM PDT

Saturn is curious world, stranger than any other place in the Sol System, imo.

Why? Well for starters, there are no records of the Traveler ever having visited the Saturn system. It appeared at Jupiter and terraformed two moons (presumably Europa and either Ganymede or Callisto). Then Mercury and Venus[1]. After that, Mars[2]. It's unclear exactly what happened after. It did something to Luna's gravity[3]. Did it do anything to Earth itself? We know that it started moving back outwards, because it was terraforming a third moon of Jupiter, Io, when the Darkness arrived and it returned to Earth[4].

Did it ever make it out to Saturn and its moons? If it did, then it definitely didn't terraform Titan for some reason[5][6]. The conditions described in the book "The Last Days on Kraken Mare" are an exact match for real-world Titan[7][8]. If the Traveler did make it out to Saturn before the Collapse, it seems strange to me that it would terraform some of the moons but not the biggest and most important.

So with that in mind, it's quite striking that there are so many strange, mystical, and enticing mysteries surrounding the moons of this be-ringed planet:

For starters, let's look at Titan itself. We established above that the moon wasn't terraformed by the time of the Collapse. Yet today, there is something very strange at play with the moon. It's unclear exactly what the current conditions on the moon are. Sloane and Zavala around without a helmet, suggesting that Titan in Destiny's present day is much warmer than real-world Titan. But she also makes a remark about the seas being liquid methane, along with a not very helpful comment about moisturizer[9].

But there's more. Real-world Titan is a frozen ball of ice with a few scattered methane lakes and a nearly opaque atmosphere of orange haze[10]. Titan in-game however, has none of those things[11]. The atmosphere is much thinner and clearer, and the surface is a dark blue sea of some sort. The simplest explanation for this would be that something heated Titan up, melting its thick icy crust into a global ocean. This however conflicts with Sloane's comments about the sea being methane (unless she means a solution of methane dissolved in water?). And furthermore, what would have caused this dramatic change? It would have had to have been since the Collapse, and it wasn't the Traveler. Was it a long-term Golden Age project that managed to keep running after the Collapse? Would the Hive do it? Was it something else entirely, like the big leviathan in the water? I have no answers.

But this post isn't just about Titan, the other Saturnian moons have plenty of enticing mysteries.

Rhea: This little moon has something called the Cauldrons of Rhea, which are apparently of great interest to the Nine[12]. And, the Nine might be responsible for the disappearance of several Awoken ships near Rhea[13]. The Nine are apparently interested in gaining physical form. Could these Cauldrons of Rhea help them achieve that?

Dione: This moon is home to near-mythical orchards of crystals that resonate with elemental energy[14]. A fireteam called Pergamon vanished after finding these Crystal Orchards. Some crystals from the orchards apparently made their way into the hands of a Dark Age Guardian, then they got shuffled around before finally being turned into a set of window shades Chromatic Fire.

Enceladus: Cayde famously left Petra a cryptic message: "It's on Enceladus.[15]" Now, when the quest first came out, there was much speculation that Cayde might have been referring to the Deep Stone Crypt. The message immediately after it was addressed to the Deep Stone Crypt after all. However, we now know that the DSC was on Europa. So what is on Enceladus that Cayde wanted Petra to find? Further, why would he only tell her about it in the possibility that she was responsible for his death? A death that he thinks would be accidental. I wonder if we'll ever get the chance to find out.

Hyperion (no not that Hyperion): In the real world, this little moon is a befuddling little sponge of a rock. But more relevant to Destiny, this was where Maya Sundaresh was stationed sometime after an incident with Vex simulations on Venus[16]. It was here that they built and tested the CHASM device, a Vex inspired technology that let the users peer into alternate timelines. The device, as well as Maya's journals of the early uses of it, seem to be the founding materials of the Future War Cult.

Telesto: This is actually the most straightforward of Saturn's moon's. After the battle between the Awoken and Oryx's Dreadnaught, some depleted Harbinger matter ended up on the moon. A sample was collected and turned into everyone's favorite game breaking fusion rifle[17]. Doesn't seem like there's much more to it.

The Dreadnaught: This isn't one of Saturn's mysteries, but I feel I should mention it anyways, since I'm going through all this trouble. Roughly 5 years ago, the Dreadnaught punched a circular hole in Saturn's rings with its Oversoul weapon. Now, the rings of Saturn aren't a solid or coherent structure. They're thousands upon thousands of little rocks, all orbiting at different speeds. By now, their differential speeds should have filled in the hole around the Dreadnaught. Or, if the Dreadnaught continues to emit a residual force on the debris around it, it should have carved out a broad gap all the way around the rings, like the Cassini Division. But it hasn't. The hole around the Dreadnaught remains stubbornly circular. So the Dreadnaught must be holding it that way.

To summarize, I think there's something very curious going on with Saturn and its moons. There are strange happenings on many of its moons, and there's no indication that the Traveler was involved with any of them. Hive, Vex, or something weirder, they remain a mystery. But it's clear that we've only scratched the surface of the wonders surrounding the ringed planet.
