7 things Bungie has yet to talk specifics (or show us!) before Beyond Light Launch

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 07:28 AM PDT

So over the last few months, we've been getting lots of info over how things will work for Beyond Light. However, there are a few things that Bungie has only given us vague information about and hasn't revealed too much.

    THE WORLD LOOT POOL

For Season 11, it was revealed in this TWAB, what the World Loot Pool weapons were a few weeks before the season launched. It would be great to get an update on what the World Loot pool will look like in Beyond Light.

SEASONAL XP, BOUNTIES, AND SEASONAL PROGRESSION

Back in the TWAB on 4/30/20, Bungie said the following :

XP and Season Rank gains are currently balanced around large contributions from Weekly Bounties. The intent here was to provide a large amount of progress for a small amount of focused play every week, but Weeklies fall down here because you lose out on big chunks of progress if you miss a week, and they are strained between too little progress for single-character players and too much repetitive work for triple-character players.

While the specifics are still under development, as early as Season 12 we want to make this better by replacing Weekly Bounties with a mechanism that provides players with a set of non-expiring and account-scoped objectives each week that grant lots of Season Rank progress (more than the Weeklies they replace). That way the return on effort is better, more consistent between players.

Bounties have found their way into the critical path of some Seasonal pursuits, becoming primary sources for Seasonal progress. Starting in Season 12, we plan to steer away from this model in general. Bounties should focus on being an optional way to optimize for more or faster core progressions, like XP or Powerful gear by way of Challenges.

When it comes to optimization, we recognize that there is a very blurry line between "optional" and "mandatory", and there's no perfect balance that works for everyone. But we think the balance is tilted too far towards feeling like you need to do bounties to unlock Seasonal content, so we're going to take this step to tilting back.

Our Seasonal free events are also currently heavily utilizing bounties in their design. We have seen the feedback around Guardian Games being the most recent source of frustration, with too much emphasis on completing bounties to participate in the event. We don't plan on making any changes to the current event as it's ending in a few weeks, but are already looking at plans to adjust the role bounties will play in future events.

We don't like that every play session starts with 10-15 minutes of loading up on bounties. We want to make it easier to grab bounties when you want to do them. To that end, we are looking at mechanisms like allowing bounties to be accessed directly from the Destination Map. These are a bit further out (think Season 13), but are on our roadmap.

We also don't like it when a bounty you've nearly completed in the middle of the previous day's play session expires right in the middle of today's session. While we still see expiration as a necessary mechanism to keep half-completed bounties from hanging around forever, we're going to relax some of the expiration times in Season 11 to give more time to close out yesterday's "19 out of 20 grenade kills.

Speaking of grenade kills, in general we're dialing in the time to complete bounty objectives to be more consistent. Unexpectedly time consuming objectives sneak in from time to time, and we generally want objectives in upcoming Seasons to be a bit less restrictive in terms of how you play.

This was back in April of this year. It would be great if we could get an update on this, and what to expect for these systems and how they will work in Beyond Light.

    UI AND DARK MODE

Bungie has teased the UI for a little bit now. They've announced a dark "Start Screen" in Beyond Light. They've shown the Ghost Update UI a couple times, and how it plays with the stasis subclass menus. Bungie also revealed the Triumph and Seals UI screen and how how gear icons will look in-game when it's "sunset". Bungie has even revealed the updated Director Map for Beyond Light - as well as the Crucible, Vanguard, and Gambit playlist director will look like. Bungie has even published the map of Europa on their site as well.

UI Things that we haven't seen:

    • Your Guardian gear screen
    • Materials Screen and Menu Options
    • Tower/Vendor UI changes
    • Bounties/Quests Screens
    • Clan Page
    • New in game lore books that were discussed in this TWAB.

    SEASONAL ARTIFACT AND SEASONAL MODS

Bungie sometimes might give us a teaser ahead of time of whatever the next Seasonal Artifact is, but they haven't talked about anything in regards to upcoming changes for Beyond Light. We don't even know what the next "Season" name is at this point.

Will we get some mod favorites returning for S12 and beyond, such as Tyrant's Surge, Hammer of the Warmind, Disrupting Blade, Passive Guard, Lightning Strikes Twice and Thundercoil. In S9 we had Antibarrier on Pulses, Scouts and Bows (also got Disruption), and Void Battery, Disruptor Strike and Molten Overload. In S8 (Undying)) brought Oppressive Darkness for the first time, Breach Refractor, Overload Grenades, as well as Arc Battery and Thundercoil.

We haven't heard a peep on how the Seasonal Artifact, in general, will change as a Core Mechanic in Destiny, especially on how it may combine with Stasis for truly experimental builds.

    EVERVERSE AND BRIGHT DUST

Bungie has stated the following in this TWAB back in May 2020.

We are making it easier for you to earn Bright Dust.

    • We will be moving away from character-specific ways to earn Bright Dust and more toward Account-specific paths.
    • This change is geared toward giving one-character players significantly more Bright Dust than they earn today.

We're updating the Bright Engram to be more relevant than it is today.

    • The earned Bright Engram in the Season Pass will be updated to include various Year 3 Eververse items previously sold for Silver and Bright Dust. And going forward, that Bright Engram will update each Season to include Eververse items from 3+ seasons prior.

We will no longer be selling new Legendary Weapon Ornaments in Eververse

Beginning in Season 12, we will no longer be selling ships, ghost shells, sparrows, or armor ornaments in Eververse that are visually based on themes from Aspirational Activities.

    ECONOMY / MATERIAL CHANGES

We still don't have any announcements on how economy materials and changes will take place. What happens to materials from planets that are going into the DCV? Will changes be made to dismantling gear and the materials granted from it? Will Spider get an overhaul? What should we stock up on?

CURRENT SUBCLASS UPDATES AND TWEAKS - Besides Stasis

Much of the focus from September has largely been on Stasis on how that will work or be integrated. What changes or updates can we expect to the current subclasses?

I had no idea that raids were so easy with a good guide and I regret waiting this long to try them.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:41 PM PDT

I've been scared of raids since I joined d2 at Forsaken and with most of them leaving soon I decided to give it a shot. I got a group together for Leviathan and we finished with minimal trouble. I then did Spire and although harder, we got it done. I wish I had tried this way earlier. Anyone who is scared of raids, don't be. Find a team on the app and then just do it. I hope to finish all of the raids before Beyond Light

Why the hell does an entire season cost less than one armor set?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 09:16 PM PDT

I find it absolutely insane that one ornament set (for one character) costs $15, whereas AN ENTIRE SEASON'S worth of content (which includes activities, new exotics, new legendaries, new weapon ornaments, and armor ornaments for 3 classes at the same time) costs $10.

Destiny 2 will undergo maintenance for Hotfix 2.9.2.2 on October 20th

    https://twitter.com/BungieHelp/status/1317952345691496449

4h15 of downtime expected. Destiny 1 will also be brought offline during that period.

EDIT: as some people pointed out in the comments, this much downtime could mean something else other than just fixes to existing bugs.

Looking back at previous hotfixes, not a single one had this much downtime - last one with this much downtime was on July 14th (https://twitter.com/BungieHelp/status/1283015457453117441), the day the pyramids reached Mercury, Titan and Mars - and when the Ruinous Effigy quest started. Maybe, just maybe, something is on the way...

EDIT2: as an additional tidbit of information, there was NO pre-patch for the Almighty event. It ran on the base version that we had at the moment, and the last patch previous to that event was the one that fixed the Felwinter's Lie quest.

Beyond Light is almost upon us. For three months I've been working on exotic armour guides to help new players as well as old that need a guiding hand in how to get them, and how they function.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 04:46 PM PDT

Hello, guardians! Some of you might remember me from way back. I started making guides to improve on my communicative skills due to my social phobia and general anxiety issues (I thought this was good CBT) and it turned out to be great for me.

So today I would just like to share the result, an almost complete playlist of exotic armour guides in destiny 2. All in very short and to the point videos. The remaining exotics that aren't covered are the less used one, so you can expect to find the most popular ones such as Helm of Saint-14, Celestial Nighthawk and Starfire Protocol. And even if a lot of these are random chance rewards there's still some time to try and get some of these exotics. Xur will also come back three more times before Beyond Light and the RNG gods might bless you with some well deserved loot.

I really hope you find this of value, and I'll see you out in the wild, guardians!

Refresh the Warp Jump animation to look more like Destiny 1's intense, high energy flight effect

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:32 AM PDT

    Your Warp Jump

The Warp Jump she tells you not to worry about

Like any day one beta veteran blah blah blah I have a number of little things I miss about D1, but I'd say most of us overall recognize how much further D2 has come in its longer live game lifetime, and agree with the plan to continue expanding it rather than a hard reset.

But that said, I do hope Bungie considers devoting some resources to refreshing the look and feel certain fundamental things that we interact with every time we play, if only to provide variety and a sense of change as we go forward towards a truly evolving game.

My #1 suggestion would be revamping the Warp Jump effect. Seriously - look at the second video above if you never played D1, or if you've just forgotten. It nails the uncanny feeling of physics breaking hyperspeed travel so much better - from the dizzying perspective of the lines of light and the more prominent black dot at the center, suggesting a transient singularity birthed by the drive, or possibly just a point of light blue shifted so far that it's beyond the visible spectrum, to the tense, vibrating animation of the ships and exhaust plumes as they expend enormous energy to catapult us across the solar system in minutes. It makes the current effect seem dull, slow, and overly flowery.

    Just me?

"The Last City" is an overlooked part of the soundtrack and I'm sad it probably won't be relevant or used again

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:20 AM PDT

    https://youtu.be/WQqKJHvpYxo

Wait until about a minute in for the best little portion

I'm not sure if replaying Red War makes it play briefly, but there's a good chance that a lot of players have never even heard this track. It was the first track used for The Tower in the first year of Destiny 2.

Situationally I can't see it being used again for the hub anymore, which is understandable but also a shame because it's one of the most uplifting and mood-setting songs in the soundtrack. Despite the troubles of Y1 I remember this song alone keeping my hopes high for the future of the franchise, and making me wonder what would come next now that the Traveller was awake... which is kind of ironic considering the Traveller hasn't really done anything for us that we know of since then.

It was so cool loading into the Tower for the first time after beating the Red War and hearing it. It's only been 3 years and still, I'm filled with nostalgia by this song and I go out of my way to find and listen to it.

What am I doing wrong in crucible?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 10:04 AM PDT

Seriously, PvP is just hell for me right now. It doesn't matter what I do or how much I play, every time I make a concious effort to improve, I just get punished for it. I don't remember it being this bad when SBMM was in the game.

If I work on my primary aim, (which I will admit is subpar) I either get mountaintopped or shotgun rushed, or three tapped before I even know what's going on. I know the basics of playing cover, positioning, awareness and so on, but it really feels like the game is working against me for trying to get better

If anyone has any advice to offer, that'd be good.

(Btw, I've seen what this sub does to any post which challenges the state of pvp or complains about it in any way. Please try and spare the downvotes if you can. Or don't, who cares.)

Seriously. I recently started playing again and finally got around to playing the updated hunter solar trees and got to try the fancy new knife. I had seen the animation in trailers and what not before playing, but it feels so damn clean and chunky in game. It feels like im lobbing a claymore at my enemy with the elegance of an assassin, its sick as hell.

Why is it so expensive in resources to theory craft and create builds in this game?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 10:59 AM PDT

I love theory crafting builds, and Destiny has some great mods/exotics you can put together to get some awesome builds going.

But each time I want to move a mod, or upgrade an armour piece, or change the elemental type of an armour piece I'm being rinsed for resources.

I end up with no glimmer constantly because I keep wanting to try new things.

It gets to the point where why do I bother? Mountaintop, nade launcher finder/reloader is a good option for everything and I'm punished for trying to find new builds.

I feel like Bungie want even just trying out new builds is for the super elite end game players, and it makes me sad.

On top of all this, acquiring gear is nearly 100% RNG. I get 96-99 of a stat way too often and its just a waste, and I feel powerless as there's nothing I can do to shift those stats into useful places but pray to rng.

Thank you for listening to my sad rant.

Yours, A frustrated theory crafter :(

My insane friends and I did two never done before raids in 5 hours. All for the sake of the raid ring

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 06:57 AM PDT

This was huge for my friends and I and wanted to share with you all.

So my friends I are not very big raiders. We don't have the time to be able to do them weekly, but we all decided that we would find time to do the five raids that are leaving in BL so we could get the raid ring. So last night at about 8pm we started SoS and finally completed it after 3 hours. And as a joke someone said let's do EoW and apparently we're all crazy cause we said sure. So we started that, made it to the boss room learned the mechanics and finished it in 2 hours (thanks to a celestial nighthawk hunter at the end with the final wipe mechanic almost killing us) all while never doing theses raid before. The excitement and joy we all had was insane. So insane we decided to start SotP. This was by far one of the most insane and memorable things I have done with my friends in destiny.

Edit: holy crap I honestly didn't think this many people would see this. Thank you all for the kind words, and thank you the award for kind stranger.

    Warlock Exotic Concept: Ol' Reliable

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:02 PM PDT

Before the idea begins I wanna warn people this is a rather long post as it contains the exotic idea itself, the supposed lore tab, what thought went into making it, and how I could see it being used.

    ____________________________

    The exotic itself

    Bad exotic page mockup

    Name: Ol' Reliable

    Warlock Exotic Gauntlet.

"Back in the Dark Age, you needed street smarts, not book smarts" -The Drifter

Exotic Perk: One to Watch Your Back

Exotic Effect: Replaces the Warlock Rift class ability with the ability to place elemental mines that change effect based on

your currently equipped element. Final Blows with the mine restore class ability energy.

Solar: "Increased power of the Mine at the cost of smaller detection range"

Arc: "Increased detection range of the Mine"

Void: "Stealth Mine at the cost of lowered dealt damage."

    Breakdown:

The mines stay on the field for a similar amount of time rifts do at 15s. They can detect through walls if the range extends through it. Think like being able to mine behind the doors in Bannerfall and someone triggering the detection as they run up close just before entering the doors. (Like how rifts can sometimes be visibly seen beyond such things). The mines themselves have visible lights on them like hunter trip mines. They will also pulse out visibly for 5 seconds on placement, the pulse extending up to the mines full detection range. After the pulses stop, only the light remains visible. Friendly mines have a green light, hostile have a red. The mines are placed a bit faster (20%) than rifts are placed now.

On base (arc basically) mine damage is equal to a melee. The mines themselves lack one tap potential and are more of a trap to set or as a way to punish pushing in things like pvp by letting you deal a fair amount of damage and then cleaning up a kill, or better yet weakening and enemy then placing a trap for them to run into after you've retreated.

On solar the damage is equal to a solar melee that is enhanced with a solar plexus. Imagine the range reduction of the mine being a 30% smaller rift.

Arc's range detection could be described as if your rift was 30% bigger.

Void's effect is more sinister, at the cost of 30% of original damage, The bright Light is no longer visible to enemies and the mine no longer pulses out when placed. Friendly mines still give a green indicator however. The range of this mine is equal to the base size of your rift.

Synergies and How I can see it being used:

In PvE this will be good for things like point defending such as towers in GoS, plates in most raid encounters or to give yourself a second to regen while enemies approach you. I can see this definitely synergizing with middle tree solar for those who wish to still have a healing option, while also giving that tree some more offensive options that synergize well with Benevolent Dawn to restore mine energy when healing team or resurrecting them. Some might use Arc for greater mob aoe when it comes to the many hoard encounters that tend to be added to Destiny. Void is far less useful here, at best synergizing with Devour to give you more options to get kills to restore your HP.

In PvP this would offer a interesting playstyle to use, a top tree might place their mine down behind a corner after retreating with Icarus Dash. Middle tree at the lack of a PvP viable super and speed might see use with this exotic due to the ability synergy I mentioned above for those who want to be more supportive in group pvp. The increased range on Arc might see a higher use in Arc when it comes to PvP due to the increased range allowing them to better trap areas with bigger detection than the other two subclasses which can allow for cleanup with grenades and easily give you better time to punish apes. Void might be a favorite despite the damage nerf simply because these mines will be something not obvious to see, getting cheap easy damage that wont do much other than make quick(er) primary kills.

How I considered balancing it VS Rift

Warlock rifts are an interesting thing to consider in terms of replacing. I wanted to consider what someone would be willing to switch from instant health regen or a damage buff field to. I at one point considered Solar Mine being able to one tap low resilience guardians (like 1-3) but at a 50% range reduction, but in the end decided against it because it would be considered too powerful. If it kills at low res it would still leave high res players at a low enough health that a passing wind would kill them. I also wanted to make each element have its own mine since this can change up what element you end up using in the end rather than just making a single tree or element just that much stronger and the only one you would use with the said exotic. I'd much rather have every element have its own strengths and weaknesses. I also made it faster to place due to how its not something that's going to give you your hp back but rather something to hurt others. I considered adding stasis as a factor but couldn't decide what its effect would be maybe other than just a default mine with no buff or debuff to it like the other 3. So I decided to just not give stasis the utility of mine placement, which would probably be for the best with the new system and how that's going to change ability functionality anyways.

I think a exotic that you can place and leave from it, that also deals damage turns your class ability upside down from what is currently a position anchor that heals you or gives you a slight damage buff. Considering Titan and Hunter get Class ability altering exotics I decided to come up with my own. Whether you end up using said exotic I think is up to the player if they so wish to give up easy healing for more offensive potential that doesn't require position anchoring.

Why did I make it a exotic gauntlet over any other armor piece? Just personal Bias, I tend to use glove exotics in PVP and PVE.

    The Lore Tab

"Back in the Dark Age, you needed street smarts, not book smarts" -The Drifter

The drifter says to a warlock looking at a odd gauntlet they found strewn about by his bank.

"And why would that be? Not a lot of books to read back then?", the warlock chuckles turning the gauntlet over, further examining it. The drifter walks up to the warlock and grabs the gauntlet from his hands,

"Nah, nothing like that brother, there were , all golden age records, final words from loved ones, memories of a better time. But you see, back then the only person you could trust to watch your back was yourself. So what did you do when you couldn't even do that?"

The warlock looked up at the drifter whos smile seemed to never waiver, "Traps?"

The drifter unfurled a finger in the gauntlet and tapped it against his head, "Yeah traps, more specific, Mines. The previous owner of this bad boy was a real paranoid type, used to lay one down every time he entered a room..", the drifter paused for a second, tossing the glove back to the warlock, "and after. Can't blame him, he lost his ghost."

The warlock looked at the sears that adorned the arms, "What happened to him?"

The drifter scoffs before leaning back up against the railing, flipping his jade coin, "The punk got spooked, in a panic forgot he had the mine down in the first place as he ran and...", The drifter made a motion with his hands, "Boom! The sucker was in little pieces. This was the only thing left intact."

The drifter looked up and eyed the warlock looking at the piece with increased curiosity, he smirked, "Y'know if you wanna use that thing go ahead, but on one condition brother, You gotta get through some gambit without bitin' the dust."

The warlock stared back at the drifter and agreed, as he was about to walk out of the drifter's room in the annex, the drifter stopped him, placing a hand on his shoulder, his voice losing it's normal whimsy and sounding deadly serious, "Listen, just like this little game I put on, you better not be telling anyone about this. Not a word, to Ikora or anyone in that Vanguard of yours. Do you understand?"

The warlock nodded, the drifter's tone soon returned to normal, "Then go knock yourself out brother. Another thing, I since modified it so hopefully what happened to him won't happen to you. Watch your back out there Brother."

No Time To Explain and Chromatic Fire could be an interesting combo.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:45 AM PDT

The perks for No Time To Explain say that precision hits to stasis inflicted enemies return the ammo and that this perk being stacked will generate our little portal buddy.

If the splash damage from the elemental explosions caused by chromatic fire count as being inflicted by stasis then this could mean continuous portal buddy and constant ammo returns.
