Ammo finder mods have been stealth nerfed in Beyond Light, and now only work on weapon kills

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 10:57 AM PST

For those who don't know, ammo finder mods aren't truly random - you can think of kills/final blows you make as filling up an invisible bar, and when the bar is full, the game spawns you an ammo finder brick. Prior to Beyond Light, kills of any kind (weapons, abilities, melee, Warmind cell explosions, exploding barrels, Cursed Thrall/Screeb explosions, etc.) would fill this bar and could spawn an ammo brick. Now, non-weapon kills don't grant any progress towards your next ammo finder brick.

    How tested:

    1. Go to orbit
    2. Equip two Grenade Launcher Ammo Finder mods in your helmet
    3. Equip a special ammo and/or heavy ammo grenade launcher
    4. Load into Artifact's Edge on Nessus
    5. Enter The Orrery lost sector without killing anything
    6. Kill Goblins until ammo finder bricks drop

    - I used The Orrery on Nessus since it's close to a fast-travel point on Nessus and features a lot of the same enemy type (Goblins) in case different enemies fill the ammo finder bar faster. However, I'm 99% sure that enemy type (Goblin, Knight) or rank (red bar, orange bar) are irrelevant, and all enemies count as the same progress towards the next ammo finder brick.

    - I return to orbit between tests to ensure my character state is "fresh" in each one.

    - The type of ammo finder doesn't matter as long as it matches your equipped weapons, I used Grenade Launcher Ammo Finder since both special ammo and heavy ammo GLs are easy to come by.

    Results:

When using strictly weapons to kill the Goblins, a special ammo finder brick would spawn in 8-10 kills, and a heavy ammo finder brick would spawn in 13-15 kills. Having both a special ammo and heavy ammo grenade launcher does not affect these numbers - e.g. if I only had a special ammo grenade launcher and a different heavy like a sword, I would still get a special ammo finder brick every 8-10 kills. I repeated this with only one Grenade Launcher Finder mod, and had special ammo finder bricks found every ~14 kills and heavy ammo finder bricks every ~21 kills. All of this is consistent with pre-Beyond Light numbers.

However, when using strictly non-weapon kills (e.g. punching everything to death), ammo finder bricks never spawned.

When alternating weapon and non-weapon kills, the time to spawn a brick was doubled, as the non-weapon kills were not progressing the bar.

I hope this is unintended on Bungie's end, as this is a fairly significant nerf to melee or Warmind cell builds and wasn't announced in patch notes.

Dawning 2020, AKA "The Opening of the Gates of Ahn'Quiraj 2020 part 2". Let's objectively lay out why this is a failure of an event and lay down some way to improve.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:21 PM PST

Starting at the beginning, the reason this event will fail without intervention is very low player engagement. That may be obvious but it actually much worse that that when you did further. Using stats taken from Braytech I will attempt to show highlight the issues behind this community event.

    Stats

    • Out of all 'active' players only 56.25% of players have actually claimed the Dawning ship. This is an indicator that the active player count is much lower lower than the total player count.
    • Of the number of players who've claimed the Starfarer 7M only 65.42% (36.80 of total) have actually completed the ship upgrades. The upgrade path requires 175 Dawning Spirit and delivering a few specific cookies.
    • The number of players who've delivered a cookie to each vendor is at 29.54% which is really a shame considering claiming each of those individual Triumphs awards extra Dawning Spirit. Between delivering the cookies, and claiming the triumphs you can almost fully upgrade the ship. Add in the weekly bounties and you're done with the ship.
    • Lastly we have the Triumph for Delivering 250 Dawning Spirit. At the time of this post a meagre 1.31% of registered players have delivered 250 Dawning spirit. Given that Just having the ship equipped and playing the game will generate spirit this is where we see the biggest indicator of the issues with this event. Worth mentioning is even less people (0.83%) have managed to deliver the 120 cookies needed for the last triumph.

    Issues

    1. Community Targets were likely based on, and tuned for a much larger player base than the actual active player count. It's also the holiday season. How many people are actually going to focus on grinding in Destiny when they've got family commitments?
    2. With bonus' from triumphs it's actually very easy to upgrade the ship but the grind for cookie materials is a bit harsh. A new player requires 300 Essence just to create one of each cookie type. That's ~19 Gambit matches or Wrathborn hunts for 20 cookies prior to masterworking. An increase in material drops is needed.
    3. Essential cookies materials don't drop from PvP kills. We know the PvP players have to be dragged kicking and screaming to do anything that requires PvE. I would be nice if kills with 'enemy themed' weapons produced enemy materials when getting kills. e.g. Chitin from sword kills or cabal oil from Leviathan/opulent weapons.

    The Reality

An extremely small fraction of the player base (~2.33%) is actually generating the majority of the community spirit ~98% of the total or higher. I don't have accurate figures for a corrected calculation.

The Larger player base isn't engaged enough due the a lackluster reward which we don't even know.

Even with the triple progress boost the 2.33% of players working overtime may barely make the target 1Billion spirit but they really shouldn't.

This is the second community event in 6 months which has been done in this style and both faced the certainty of failure without intervention from Bungie. This second event shows a failure to learn from the mistakes that were made previously.

    Summaries

Bungie plz. Destiny is not WoW. Please stop trying to make us open the gates to Ahn'Quiraj. The rewards simply aren't good enough.

PvP players aren't being engaged in the event.

Event targets are much too high.

People have lives outside of Destiny.

Any event relying on the participation of less than 3% of it's player base to complete is a complete failure. IMHO anybody who did not complete the 'Get in the Spirit' triumph should be ineligible for the rewards from the community event. This isn't a community. It's quite literally the reverse of capitalism. 'The 3%' working their asses off so the other 97% can reap the benefits.

I'm sorry it's not a very concise post but I think it holds some very relevant information that not everyone is aware of. Personally I've stopped farming spirit after hitting 3000. The rewards simply aren't worth the time put in to it.

This has to be one of the lightest seasons ever, content wise. Overshadowed by BL expansion, can you imagine if this season dropped without an expansion to accompany it? The High Celebrant hunt is hopefully longer than the 5 minute hunts we have now...

"Of All Trades" Raid Challenge Guide (CONFIRMED)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 09:33 AM PST

Hey everyone! I posted this graphic a couple of weeks ago on the r/raidsecrets subreddit and I can officially say this IS the challenge.

My team did this and it worked amazingly so let me know how it works for you.

The only minor change to it is that the order of swapping needs to be focused on who is locked out each round. So whichever buff gets the augment lockout needs to dump theirs first and then the other two will change.

Once again as an explanation for this and not the countless other strategies is that this one allows each player to focus on what they need to do and not ever have to ask, "Which buff do I need? Is someone going to grab the red buff?"

This graphic is NOT for established raid teams where that kind of communication is normal, it is for LFG groups that ban barely beat Atraks-1.

    Hope this helps everyone!

    https://imgur.com/a/AROK2k8

EDIT: A completed triumph for anyone who is concerned.

EDIT 2: IMPORTANT: It would seem that you need to have each player also dunk 2 nukes each as well in order to get the triumph. My team did this unknowingly, but if you are failing it for any reason this may be it.

EDIT 3: So. It would seem as thought the amount of dunking is not the issue, but instead the timing of dunking into swapping buffs. From what I am gathering this is the problem many people are having:

You must dunk BOTH nukes, and THEN you may begin the swapping of buffs. Do not put any in a terminal until after both nukes have been deposited. Let me know by tagging me (The comments are getting too many for me to handle) if this helps you.

I want Black Armory back more than the Menagerie

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 07:01 AM PST

For the aesthetic of the guns alone. And since the only 140 Energy Handcannons in the game that aren't sunset are raid-exclusives, and we're fixing to lose Trophy Hunter to sunsetting as well, it would be nice to have Kindled Orchid and Tatara's Gaze leveled up to replace them. Not to mention I really miss my Blast Furnace.

I mean, the Forges didn't even involve any destinations they put in the DCV! They could've left them right where they were! (Well, except for the Io strike for Izanagi, but that questline's been messed up since forever anyways).

    This Week's Vendor Armour ( 29th Dec - 5th Jan )

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 11:12 AM PST

    Hello Guardians,

Here is this week's lineup of Vendor Armour rolls at Zavala, Shaxx and Drifter in the Tower, and Devrim Kay in the EDZ.

These rolls are not static and change every weekly reset. The cost for one piece is 25 Legendary Shards and 1,000 Glimmer.

The Tower Vendors sell armour from Season 12, Devrim Kay sells armour from Season 11.

Failsafe also sells armour, but it's from Season 1 and thus sunset, so I will not include it on the list, aside from noteworthy pieces.

The armours usually have a low stat toal, averaging at around 53. They do however tend towards a min max stat distribution, that is, one to three stats have very high stats, while the other three very low stats.

The minimum stat is 2. The maximum is 30.

Pieces with a min max stat distribution should never be overlooked, even if they do not hit 30 in a single stat, and will usually be included in the noteworthy piece section.

There will usually be a single piece that reaches 30 in a single stat every week. Outstanding pieces like this are a must-buy.

    Outstanding piece(s) of this week:

Wildwood Warlock Boots have a 57 stat total, but with 22 Rec, 27 Int, and 2 on all remaining stats, which isn't a bad distribution considering those two stats have the most expensive mods.

    Noteworthy pieces this week:

Titan: Exodus Down Boots with 22 Mob and 20 Str, which I do not include in the list below. Cinder Pinion Chest hit a 59 stat total, but the distribution is pretty average, the only real standout stat is Rec at 22. Pick it up if you have the Crucible Ornament but no good Crucible Chests. The Cinder Pinion Boots and Wildwood Helm and Chest are pretty nice too.

Hunter: Phobos Warden Helm and Arms, as well as the Calamity Rig Boots have quite nice stat distributions. Not as bad as usual. A lot of the better pieces favour Recovery and Mobility this week.

Warlock: Phobos Warden Helm has a 26 Mob and 14 Int, and a 56 Stat Total, but that would be it for this week outside of the Wildwood Boots mentioned above. If you find any other pieces you find noteworthy, feel free to let me know.

The Glassway Grandmaster. How our team beat it

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 05:08 PM PST

Good day everyone! Straight out this Grandmaster. Our team beat it and I want to share our loadouts and strats.

    Hardest parts of Nightfall

    - Boss fight is extremely tedious. Biggest danger comes from Wyverns (surprise surprise). These things can 1-shot you even in Well with resist mods. Same goes to little Hydra-boss. It 1-shotted us in Well for some reason.

    - Timer. 30-minute is really rough. Once you hit 30:00 you will lose all your revives. So it's very important to hit last phase of boss fight before this mark (more about this later in the post)

    - Keeping pace before boss fight. Because of timer and long boss fight it's better for your team to speed run through entire Nightfall. By speed run I mean playing aggressive. You WANT to get to boss fight at around 16-20 minutes.

    Our loadouts

    1. Warlock with Phoenix Protocol.
Finisher with Heavy Ammo (sometimes doesn't proc, which is really taunting) and Special Ammo.
Sacred Provenance (Anti-Barrier), Divinity, Seraph Machine Gun with Warmind Cells mods
Maximizing Recovery, Discipline and Intellect (with this exact order)
    2. Warlock with Phoenix Protocol.
      Finisher with Special Ammo
Long Shadow, IKELOS SMG (Anti-Barrier) with Warmind Cells mods, Anarchy
Maximizing Intellect, Recovery and Discipline (with this exact order)
    3. Stasis Warlock with any useful exotic. Fragments: Whisper of Refraction, Whisper of Hedrons, Whisper of Durance, Whisper of Fissures
Patron of Lost Causes with Explosive Payload (Overload Rounds), Truthteller with Blinding Grenades, Anarchy
Thermal Overload and Surge Eater mods for Overload Grenade spam
Maximizing Recovery, Strength and Discipline (with this exact order)

    Main points of our strat

    1. GETTING TO BOSS FIGHT
There's really no any specific gameplay or strat before boss fight. But keep with this simple "rules" to get good timer:
      - Don't save your Supers. Place Well during mini-Boss fights against Stasis-casting Fallen. Stasis Warlock must spam his Stasis abilities and cast Super whenever there are a lot of enemies
      - Coordinate when using Finishers to get Special and Heavy Ammo. Any finisher can be crucial
      - Warmind Cells are your friend. Cellular Suppression is excellent crowd control option. Same goes to Truthteller user - he can spam his GL to keep enemies blinded for 5 seconds. Cellular is stunning for 10 seconds
      - Try to kill Overload Captain before Anti-Barrier Servitor. If you late and Servitor immunes enemies, focus on him
      - Try to kill Stasis-casting Fallen bosses ASAP. Anarchy users will have their time to shine
      - During bridge encounter spam Wells when protecting point, but place them behind cover. When enemies approach play behind cover and stay safe. Focus on Sniper Vandals (job for Long Shadow and Patron of Lost Causes)
    2. BOSS FIGHT
Boss fight is really tedious. Unfortunately we didn't use right strat and suffered from it.
      - Defending right side of boss room is your best bet. Stay near entrance (inside the room) right from middle and focus enemies who will approach you.
      - Try to get mini-Hydra out as soon as possible. At the same time 2 Overload Minotaurs will spawn. After getting mini-Hydra to low HP 2 additional will spawn. Focus this Minotaurs with Divinity and Stasis Overload Grenades. Get Anarchy and burn them. Use your Well to get additional damage and heal
      - Use Shadebinder's Super against Wyverns. Also, Truthteller with Blinding Grenades will stun them for 5 seconds, they won't be able to do anything. It's golden time to kill them and major key to completing this Grandmaster
      - Play safe against Anti-Barrier Hobgoblins. They will most likely come to use with whole group, so focus one and then another ones. Don't try to kill everyone at the same time, you won't be able to without Shadebinder's Super
      - Move your head 360, because Champions and Wyverns can get you from behind
      - Most damage against bosses will come from Anarchy-users. They can rotate around the boss room to get him. Try NOT TO place Anarchy on his arms, he will knockoff these grenades immediately

    Other recommendations

    1. Try to play timer. You will need to get to last phase before 30-minute mark. You will get this phase after clearing SECOND wave of Wyverns. At the same time 4 Anti-Barrier Hobgoblins will appear
    2. During boss fight focus on ads and mini-Hydra first, then get to big-Hydra and switch boss phase. Ideally you want to kill 2 Overload Minotaurs, knockoff mini-Hydra and kill 2 more Overload Minotaurs, but it will be very hard because of enemies
    3. Then you kill all ads including Champions and Wyverns, spread around the room to damage big-Hydra. Beware, it reacts to you very fast and will shoot even before rotating it's head
    4. If you don't care about getting Platinum, you can ignore last Anti-Barrier Hobgoblins and deal with big-Hydra. If you only have primary ammo - screw it and try to kill the boss
    5. Stasis is VERY STRONG. Just keep it in mind
    6. Don't try to tank Wyverns in the Well, they can 1-shot you. Keep them stunned/freezed

    Good luck with this Nightfall!

    scarlet keep please no

Some original designs for Hive Knight helmets. I might be doing more in the future because it was lots of fun!

Edit: forgot to add here that the Prophet of Yul is heavily inspired by the Mouth of Sauron.

There isn’t enough loot in this game to sustain the kinetic/energy system that has been in play since d2 launched

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:30 PM PST

In d1 your weapons were linear, Hand cannons, Scouts, Pulses and Auto rifles were all kinetic, snipers, shotguns, fusions and at that time sidearms were energy and then everything else was heavy, there were a few exceptions but not many broke the ruling. Then in d2 they introduced double primaries, then after community feedback they returned specials to the kinetic AND energy slots, creating the system we have now.

In vanilla of d2 there were a decent chunk of weapons to go after, but the lack of random rolls made it feel like there were less, now, we just overall have less.

This new system may seem like it's innovative into pushing greater customisation of play, but in truth it really doesn't. People complain about the felwinters in crucible when in reality it isn't that much better than a god rolled astral because that's what the gun is, a god rolled shotgun, shot package just makes it more consistent. So let's say you want to pair your astral with something to switch things up, your energy options are insanely lacklustre, I've been trying to find a hand cannon I like to pair with my succession or heritage or astral etc, but there just aren't any I enjoy because all the best weapons like that are kinetic.

So now you have to choose, because there are no 72 rpm snipers in the energy slot bar trophy Hunter, which got FOMO'd out the game, so if you want to run one you're out of luck. There are no kinetic fusion rifles other than bastion and also a very slim amount of 600 kinetic auto rifles, so you either run bastion or you have to use one of the kinetics that are there.

    I could go on but everyone gets the point. Now I think that to combat this there's a few options;

    1. Go back to the d1 style of kinetic, energy being special weapons and leave it at that (I don't think this is what we should do, but it's an option.

    2. When transmog comes in, allow us to change weapon skins as well as armour, but only within the subclass of weapons, so if you really enjoyed using better devils, you can make your ancient gospel look like it, this way if you add at least 1 non sunset weapon variant in each slot, there's more customisation to play with without having to add in too many weapons and dilute the loot pool.

    3. Just bring back all the old weapons, I've seen a lot of people suggest throwing the nine weapons into the prophecy dungeon, also the spare rations is one of the best looking weapons to ever exist in destiny history, bring it back, even if you have to remove some AA or perks or whatever.

    4. Bring back d1 weapons so there is enough to have one of each archetype of weapon in each slot.

At the minute this system is way too restrictive and it's why you're seeing a lot of meta dominated loadout, not because things are overpowered but because the illusion of choice is exactly that, an illusion.

Last Wish is currently a broken mess. Can we get some bug fixes, Bungie?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 03:07 PM PST

For the last week or so I've been attempting a succesful Petra's Run, which means I've run the raid a bunch of times, which has highlighted just how broken this raid is. Some bugs include:

    • Shuro Chi continuing to do her wipe mechanic for a few seconds after a succesful DPS phase, possibly leading to wipes

    • Morgeth starting to float in the air when DPS'ing, making it harder to hit him with swords

    • Cleansing the correct plate on vault doing nothing, requiring you to get another taken essence in a very limited time frame

    • Vault giving the wrong buff for the remaining plates. Eg. giving a player penumbra when the last two plates require antumbra

    • The heart choosing a person already inside the heart on Queenswalk

    • The heart sucking in additional players way outside the radius

    • The heart killing people when transporting them out of the heart once it has been dunked (this one hurt)

    • Creeping darkness not killing you when reaching 10 stacks (Although this one doesn't hurt the player, it is a bug nonetheless)

I think it's such a shame that the raid is so buggy, considering the fact that the raids, in my opinion, are the premier PvE experience, and having the best (IMO) of the currently available raids be this broken is off-putting and is making me not want to play the best PvE experience in the game.

I would love to see Factions restored and used as end-game pieces of content.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:08 PM PST

I miss representing a faction and earning faction gear. I would love to see it return with the main focus of them being on end-game activities. Give each faction unique sets of gear and weapons, along with unique missions/activities in new/different areas exclusive to that faction. Also bring back faction wars once a quarter and have something unique done with that.

[Skill Up] Destiny 2: Beyond Light - Review

30 minutes is not enough time to do a GM in the glassway

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:27 PM PST

It took my team 25 min to get to the boss room and 5 minutes is not enough to kill boss and his raid boss health, IMO they should give us more time to do this GM

Here's my concept for revamping Light (and Stasis) subclasses. Let me know what you think!

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 09:54 AM PST

    Light Subclass 3.0

Disclaimer: Some of the specifics shown are just for showcasing the concept in greater detail. Skills and their costs are not final.

    1. Skill Points

    • Players progress their characters in two ways: Unlocking skills and increasing their available skill points. Allowing stats to be increased with skill points adds another factor into a build's opportunity cost assessment. Stat points are truncated to reduce the grind of obtaining an armor set with a good stat spread. Since armor is sunset after a couple of seasons, and since players might want to experiment with multiple different builds, relaxing stat point thresholds might be for the better. Masterworking armor would increase one stat category by one point.

    2. Skill Types

    • Skills can be unequipped to allow for builds which may focus solely on 1 or 2 abilities. This would allow for setups similar to what the Memory of Felwinter artifact did in D1. Supers being swappable lets us shuffle around some of the supers which do not fit into a class identity to keep them in the game. For example, Radiance Warlock could be brought back if we justify the in-game mechanic with a bit of text. Blade Barrage and Spectral Blades could be moved to Arcstrider as it fits the "knife-based" subclass, so to speak. Really, it just depends on what we consider the identity of a class or a subclass to be.

    3. Skill Traits

    • Skill traits are perks for your skills. They give incentive for min maxing your stats beyond decreased cooldowns. The most powerful traits would have a high stat requirement and high Skill Point cost. The traits of an incendiary grenade may not be compatible with the tripmine grenade, so while skills may share traits, each skill needs their own set. Players are limited to 4 traits per skill. Keep in mind though that depending on how the skill point economy is adjusted, players may not even be able to reach that limit for more than one skill.

    4. Aspects and Fragments

    • Aspects and Fragments are independent from each other. Aspects bestow auxiliary abilities at a cost. Fragments do not have a SP cost(this part I'm not too set on) and give some extra synergy to the subclass. Unlike the existing system, fragments are class-exclusive. Hunters might find Gunslinger's Trance and Chains of Woe here, while Titans would find Sunspot related buffs.

    Final Thoughts

I decided to make this post in part due to Polygon's article. Everyone was saying their piece on it so I thought it would be an opportune moment to flesh out and post some of my ideas regarding the class building in the game.

If you take away all of my gear, what separates my Hunter from all of the other ones? This is a question I've always thought about regarding this game. And now with sunsetting once again upon us, this question has become more relevant. My aim was to give an answer compatible with the game's current state by combining the existing Stasis class system and Destiny 1's skill tree to create something with more room to experiment and to give players the chance to create something truly unique. Please let me know how you think I did.

This post is not a suggestion, it's more just putting forth my opinion for the kind of customization I want in the game. I encourage everyone to post their own thoughts regarding class builds, along with any questions or criticisms about the concept.

Crow's nest is one of the coolest things I've seen in Destiny

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 09:32 PM PST

I'm going through the effigy mission right now, through the dam... and hearing about Crow's mementos is just... touching, really moving. I typically don't get into the sentimental stuff in games like this, but his dialog is really some of the most meaningful I've heard in the game. Maybe it has a personal resonance for me, I'm not sure, but I never expected to feel so compelled by a character with his past. Crow has such an elegant naivety that I can't help but want to shine a little light on it.

With all my gripes about Destiny this year (and there's plenty of things this year to gripe about), I have to hand it to Bungie; they made a simple-seeming character stand out among epic characters this year.
