    Focused Feedback: The Dawning 2020

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:39 AM PST

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'The Dawning 2020' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Hot take: A lot of people here can't seem to tell the difference between valid suggestions and pure saltiness

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:42 PM PST

"Please fix Trials matchmaking, my team gets annihilated in every match by people with dozens of flawless clears" vs "Bungie, don't even release trials at all if you're going to make it this bad once again."

"Right now, sunsetting has created more problems for the game than it solved. (Proceeds to give reasons why)" vs "Beyond Light sucks. Give me my $40 back. Luke Smith hates the player base and hates all forms of fun."

"Stasis in PvP has a few big issues, like (Proceeds to list issues)" vs "I am not playing PvP again until you balance stasis, and I am telling all my friends who still play this awful game not to play Beyond Light."

From these examples, the difference should be readily apparent. But for some reason it's not. I believe that the saltstorm that often overtakes this sub inhibits productive discussion and pushes Bungie away from wanting to listen to us.

It seems to me that people mainly get salty about five big things here.

    - Sunsetting (especially armor, and paid expansion gear)

    - PvP matchmaking

    - Stasis balancing

    - The prospect of removing supers

    - Core playlists feeling neglected

And these are perfectly legitimate things to want to have changed. But whining about them with no legitimate reasons cited isn't productive, and saying things like "don't play this game," "fire Luke Smith" and "Bungie is terrible" is counterproductive and just plain awful.

This is a personal opinion of course, but I think Beyond Light (even with the problems from Stasis) is wonderful. It's the changes (or lack thereof) that came with its launch that many people dislike.

Edit: People who say stuff along the lines of "if you want so much to be changed just play a different game lmao" accomplish less than nothing too.

I know this post is gonna be controversial, but I want to get this out there.

    Happy holidays to all!

I really hope bungee takes the witch Queen, a clearly savathun focused DLC, to f*** with their player base

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:47 AM PST

It could be a possibly unpopular opinion, but I really want a DLC focus on the god of deception to just completely screw with everyone. I'm talking the whole nine yards, maybe some fake leaks, trailers with things that are possibly not true, exotic reveals, obviously not always, but I really want this DLC to specifically be the one where it becomes hard to trust the information bungie gives us. Surprise everybody. I feel like not everybody's going to be on board with this but I feel like for the theme of the DLC going in there expecting one thing and getting another just really fits in with savathun

Since Vault of Glass is returning... Bungie PLEASE bring back Chatterwhite shader!

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 08:27 AM PST

Right now, if you missed out on Honors of The Nine from Year 1 trials, (which I'm guessing most players did, because it's trials) there is only one shader in the game that will kind of make your gear all-white. Monochromatic is as close as you're gonna get.

Since the trials shader is now inaccessible to 98% of the player-base, I think it would be nice to bring back the OG white shader. I remember clearing VoG the first time, and my whole fireteam put that shader on, and just strutted around the tower. Everyone knew what we had just did just from looking at us.

And if we're being honest here, 90% of the shaders in D2 are u g l y. I'd much rather just be all-white.

Edit: Since there seems to be some confusion, this post is about Monochromatic being the best all-white shader IF you don't have Honors of The Nine, which is the year 1 Trials shader, that is no longer obtainable. If you have Honors of The Nine, then congrats, you have the best all-white shader currently. I hope this provides some clarity to the few confused folk.

The concept of black armory could have been an awesome place to get new weapons every season.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 11:03 AM PST

Lore-wise, it could have been awesome to bring Ada artifacts from wrathborn hunts or from the warmind towers and having her and her armory construct new and powerful weapons from these new materials. It would would have given us an avenue to more "construct" our own weapons going forward, which would have played nicely and allowed us to target our loot, like we were able to in some of the past activities.

Infusing an exotic with an exotic should not cost an upgrade module

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:13 PM PST

Title says it all really. Every item pulled from collections at 1050 is bad enough, at least make it so that exotics don't suffer from this.

I personally try out a number of exotics every Legendary lost sector to try and find the best strategy. This is a resource dump now due to the new system.

Bungie, can you PLEASE let us "Unlock" Transmat Effects, just like we can do it for Ghost Projections?

Would free up a lot of inventory space and simplify the system even further.

Can I just say that forcing me to be in a fireteam to complete objectives easily done solo is pretty dumb Bungie?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 08:19 AM PST

So I'm not much of a Triumph Hunter but since I'm at home and I have loads more time to play D2, I thought I'd just do some of them. I looked at the Splintered seal and Europa triumphs to see what I was missing...

... And there they were. 50 Brig kills during Public Events (which is already RNG, as you can literally go a whole 30/40 mins without a single one Brig PE spawning), or killing Elenaks, or doing Patrols WHILE IN A FIRETEAM.

But why? I am already having a hard time to get friends together for relevant content like raids and such, now I have to ask of them to just come and sit on Europa while we wait for the right PEs to spawn and in the meantime grinding Patrols to get some Heroic ones? Who wants to sit through that?

I ended up just joining random people on my friendlist or clanlist that were exploring Europa and just did my thing while they were doing theirs, which I highly doubt is what Bungie was trying to achieve with that. In all fairness, demanding that I get a fireteam together to do something so trivial people do on their own countless times a day is just stupid. I get the whole "playing together and forming a community" thing, but not with such meaningless and trivial actions and activities that the hurdle to get the triumph is getting people together to do it rather than the activity itself.

Lore-wise, stasis abilities shouldn't be able to freeze people inside Well of Radiance.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:52 PM PST

Solar is the antithesis to stasis, because Stasis is the absence of all atomic movement. Basically absolute zero, zero entropy within those crystals.

Solar is a subclass based off of fire and fusion, and high heat means extreme atomic energy. Well of Radiance creates a healing and empowering rift of solar energy that should cancel out lesser stasis abilities, if not supers. Melees, Titan slides, shatterdives, duskfield grenades should not affect guardians inside a Well of Radiance.

I suppose the same could be said for other solar supers, but Well of Radiance should be above all others. The Titan solar supers could use a buff, I always see titans either playing Defender or Striker.

Also, shooting your allies out of stasis should be a thing. This isn't lore-based, but we did it with Variks!

Edit: Class strengths/weaknesses to other classes in PvP would just be cool altogether.

Solar brings entropy to Stasis crystals. (Solar damage can melt stasis crystals).

Stasis slows the atomic energy of Arc (Stasis crystals freeze Arc guardians for longer)

Arc ??? to Void (Arc guardians are immune to Void suppression abilities)

Void snuffs out Solar of the oxygen it needs to burn (Void damage does bonus damage to Solar supers)

After a weekend of Trials, I wanted to document the issues our team saw with Stasis

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:11 PM PST

I wanted to make a low-salt documentation of what issues we had with Stasis, as in, how it forced us to play and ways that it seemed (excessively) powerful. I want this to also be a discussion, not just a rant.

    Slow Dodge + Withering Blade

This combination felt nearly impossible to outplay, especially on players using a Sniper rifle. We simply could not push players who used this, as they could dodge, then use a Withering Blade to freeze one or more players. This was especially powerful with Mask of Bakris, which made them nearly impossible to shotgun, as they covered so much distance. However, without Bakris, they had a cooldown of around 15 seconds on this combo.

    Glacier Grenade, in general:

This is a very well known problem for many players; Hunters and Titans can throw Glacier Grenades and shatter them, dealing massive damage. While we were able to outplay the basic Glacier + Shatterdive combo in an aggressive sense, it made snipers impossible to push, as the only way to outplay it is to keep your distance. With Titans, it never really posed a problem. It does have massive power in its ability to block sightlines for long periods of time, along with zone an area.

    Behemoth Super:

This super feels like pre-nerf Fists of Havoc to go against. It lasts insanely long for how fast it moves. It is a free round win in Trials if they don't have a counter-super. The most egregiously annoying thing about it was that it freezes players when activated, meaning it can be used as a Panic super, moreso than Fists of Havoc, which often cannot kill players on the initial slam. Aside from that, the ability to spam the Lunge with little cost to the super is the exact same issue seen with Fists of Havoc before its nerf.

Behemoth is also rocking better damage resistance than Hammer of Sol on The Taken King's release, at 60% damage resistance. This means a high impact sniper only deals 190 damage, enough to be tanked by moderate resilience Titans.

    Silence and Squall:

When the enemy had match point and had a Silence and Squall, we knew for certain it was a lost game. There is essentially no way to outplay this super. Being frozen by the initial freeze is nearly a guaranteed death, as the Squall tornado will kill you, and if it doesn't, a player will most certainly shoot you before you can become unfrozen.

We rarely saw Shadebinders, but when we did, they weren't excessively difficult to play against. The instant freeze was quite powerful when used correctly, but again, didn't prove too powerful.

Again, I wanted this to be a discussion, not a rant.

Bungie please let Witchqueen's raid be the biggest mindfuck of them all.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:52 PM PST

Garden and Deep Stone Crypt were good on day one but the mechanics themselves were pretty simple, it just came down to execution. Calling out which station to deposit a ball in while 2 people run at said stations isn't hard, what is hard is doing that while not dying.
After day one, well most of it could just be brute-forced and you can sleep through the rest of it because of how simple it is without contest mode.

Please don't let that happen to the raid from a DLC based on the queen of deception.

I know something on the scale of last wish won't be made but we can learn from it as to how a complex encounter is created.
Look at the vault, its encounter arena is relatively small and simple and the mechanics themselves are just symbols on a wall and 3 plates. But the way those symbols are used is what turns an average-looking encounter into what is probably the most puzzling day one encounter ever, which doesn't even have a boss. Even after day one if you wanted to teach a team how to do vault they actually needed to spend some time understanding the mechanics and made it so it seemed like, in the words of a blueberry I sherpa'd "Who in the everloving fuck thought this up". What makes it good is that the encounter actually makes you think and also always has a ticking clock to stop people from just dozing off.
As for riven well....do I really need to say why she is great? When done legit every member of the fireteam needs to stay busy and it has so many layers of mechanics. Riven was a masterclass in destiny 2 raid boss design and I hate to say this but I doubt Bungie will ever top that.

Rather than creating encounters that focus purely on execution, how about we go back to the days of actual puzzles like in leviathan and last wish plz ;-;. Cuz execution based raids will always turn into a joke after day 1 because of how dumb the enemy AI is.

P.S: I know leviathan turned into the easiest full raid in d2 history but that was because leviathan wasn't designed for a forsaken sandbox. That doesn't take away from the fact that it did in fact have proper puzzles tho.

Bungie, can you please address the mote pick up issues in gambit?!

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:26 PM PST

I'm a big fan of gambit, I genuinely enjoy the game mode when I go in with a coordinated team (playing with randoms is a horrible experience)

But one thing that stops me from playing is simply picking up motes. I shouldn't have to run over a single mote 2 or 3 times before it's picked up or stand over it for what feels like an eternity.

Gambit seems to want to be a fast game mode, which is why I like it. But the more issues constantly stop you in your tracks and makes you a target.

Please do something about this for once.

The thing that sticks out to me as to why DSC is such a fun raid and a thing I want to do: there is room for error.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:24 AM PST

I lightly raided in D1 and early D2. Quit doing it after OG Leviathan because it felt like the room for error was so tight, one slip and "That's a wipe". Over and over. Mechanics are fine, but punishing, tight mechanics only frustrate and serve to elevate the bar for entry.

With DSC, on top of all the fun, hectic action, good looking loot, etc., there feels like there is more room for error and recovery. I've had Taniks runs where two cores kill their runners, they get picked up and dunked, revives, and you move on and the encounter is completed. This is way more fun than "dammit [player], why didn't you kill your _______, miss that jump, cleanse me!, etc." and only serves to allow more players to participate. The mechanics aren't overly complicated either, which also helps.

Edit: Comments have pointed out, and I agree, that this raid allows for more "Hero Moments" than others do. This is what I meant in room for error, because errors still can and do happen in DSC.

Bungie, you can't say you want to diversify the loot pool by removing True Prophecy...

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:00 PM PST

...While also having a total of four 180 RPM hand cannons and god knows how many 140s in the current unsunsetted sandbox (including exotic 140s) when we only have TWO 120 rpm hand cannon that aren't sunsetted, Steady Hand and Crimils Dagger, which are also locked to a timed event! Iron Banner!

Add True Prophecy back, or give us a 120 RPM energy hand cannon (like Thin Line) for THIS season. you've shown you can make changes to the loot pool quickly, so next season's 120s arent on the table here. WE. WANT. LOOT.

p.s. where are all the energy 140s that aren't raid locked?

How am I supposed to convince my friends to play Trials when on our first and second games we get players who have 100+ flawless clears.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 11:49 PM PST

    Seriously.

Edit: Wow this post really blew up, me and my friends were seriously convinced that it would get heavily downvoted by players who would just say "get good". I just wanted to say thank you for the upvotes and thank you to dmg04 for commenting and asking for feedback on the issue. I also wanna add that no, I don't believe everyone should be able to go flawless; but I do believe that the mode should accessible enough that people are able to get 3 wins and from that confidence find themselves immersed in the game mode to one day achieve flawless. Apart from that for anybody that feels different or has some ideas, dmg has commented in this post and I suggest we give him feedback. With all of that said I wanted to wish the community and the team at Bungie a happy holidays.

Felwinters isn’t overpowered, it’s overcentralizing which are totally different problems (but still a problem)

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 09:59 PM PST

People seem to be mixing the two up quite a bit. From a level of power felwinters isn't really stronger than the second best shotgun available right now (astral). The problem is due to sunsetting, primary's heavily slanted towards the kinetic slot, it's only completion being a near unfarmable weapon, and it being a gift weapon. It's the most common weapon in PvP by far that has more to do with bungie's shortsightedness with sunsetting and weapon crafting than it does with felwinters level of power.

I went out of bounds to snipe Spider in his dumb fucking face, here's the clip

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:17 PM PST

As the whole area is "Spider's Safehouse", you can't use weapons unless you pass a height limit, which is why I'm having to jumpshot

There also isn't a good angle closer to him, so... Sniping it is.

Fun fact: there are two separate tunnels in this area which are inaccessible normally, and are completely open-ended so you can hop right in them. Guessing the area was originally going to be larger and these are just scrapped remnants of the original layout

Why did warlocks get a nerf but not the other classes?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:10 PM PST

It honestly really seems like Bungie is heavily prejudiced against warlocks. I get frozen through walls by the Hunter super, constantly killed by shatterdive because of the pure verticality of it mixed with stompee's, I can barely track the speed demon that of which is the Titans Behemoth super, and their increased slide distance is a monster for shotgunning, but the only good thing I see on Warlock is the melee, and that's only good if your enemy is beelining for you. The super is sluggish, and can be outran, the tracking is worse than the jet homing missiles tracking from GTA, and the throw time for the ice bolts is delayed. Are the other two classes ever going to recieve a nerf as well? Or is Warlock ever going to get buffed?

Why Bungie do not include latency or ping information?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 09:47 PM PST

Destiny 2 is an online game where most of the times you are interacting with other players. Latency is a huge issue and have been experiencing lag in Crucible and gambit in Beyond light. One easy way to see the latency issue is ping. Other online multiplayer games implement it, so why not Destiny 2? There can also be warning for packet loss or bad network issues which can really be a neat feature. Bungie has already moved on the next gen. So please implement some ping/ connection information feedback for us gamers.
