Dungeons & Destiny, a free re-imagining of 5th Edition to fit the Destiny setting, has reached version 1.0

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 08:02 AM PST

Hello r/DestinyTheGame! I'm Kitty, also known as GoodGameKitty, and I am the creator of the Dungeons & Destiny project. Dungeons & Destiny, or D&Destiny, is a tabletop role-playing game based on 5th edition that's been in development for over two years now. Yesterday we launched the 1.0 version of the Player's Guidebook, which is the first of three core rulebooks that are used to play Dungeons & Destiny. The other two are the Architect's Guide and the Bestiary of the Wilds. Both of these books are still working toward their own 1.0 version, but they're both over halfway there.

You can access all of the D&Destiny content, including the v1.0 of the Player's Guidebook, for FREE, here on our website

This is something that me & my dev team have been working insanely hard to accomplish these past couple of years. There have been all sorts of ups and downs, but we're finally here, we're finally at v1.0, and we are so excited to share it with ya'll!

    What You Get with D&Destiny

D&Destiny isn't just a re-flavoring of 5th Edition, it's almost a complete overhaul of the entire system. We have:

    • 9 new classes that are based on the Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 Light subclasses (Gunslinger, Bladedancer, Nightstalker, Striker, Defender, Sunbreaker, Voidwalker, Sunsinger, and Stormcaller), and each class in D&Destiny has 3 unique class archetypes. We do plan to add Stasis in a future version, but that won't be happening until we get both the Architect's Guide and Bestiary of the Wilds up to v1.0 too.
    • Racial stats for the three races of humanity (Awoken, Exo, human) and racial stats for five alien races (Cabal, eliksni, krill, psion, Vex), in case you wanted to play as an unconventional Lightbearer. Each race has 2-3 variations for you to select from.
    • 14 firearms, combat bows, and a whole weapon upgrade system that allows you to pick your own perks for your weapons, even your melee weapons.
    • A whole new equipment section that covers commonly found goods in the Destiny universe such as jumpships, tablet computers, and patrol beacons, as well as their mechanics.
    • A bunch of new mechanics to cover things like Light abilities, Ghost resurrection, Light zones and Darkness zones, and conditions unique to the Destiny universe (Tethered, Burning, Weakened, etc).

And this is just what's in the Player's Guidebook! In our Architect's Guide you can find things like a breakdown of the lore of the Destiny universe, literally hundreds of exotic items, and a whole section dedicated to explaining how to make your own race. Our Bestiary of the Wilds (which is long overdue for a major update; we're working on it, promise!) has tons of new monsters all based on Destiny, from the common dreg to never-before-seen creatures such as the Taken harpy or the Fallen jumper.

    We're Not Done Yet

Just because the Player's Guidebook is at v1.0 doesn't mean work has stopped on D&Destiny. Like I said before, we hope to add the new Stasis classes in the future, and we're already well on our way to getting the Architect's Guide and the Bestiary of the Wilds up to their own v1.0s.

And we've got tons of art to add! The current version of the game is hosted via Google Docs, so it doesn't look too pretty, but here's an album of the cover arts + class arts, just to give you an idea of what we're shooting for.

    How to Play D&Destiny

You can play D&Destiny the same way you'd play any other game based on 5th Edition. It works just fine whether you play paper and pencil, or if you use services like roll20 to run your games. You can even use 5e character sheets for your D&Destiny character with no trouble at all, though we do have our own character sheets that are in development.

We have a Discord server (linked via our website) that we use to run multiple sessions per week. We have myself and my fellow dev team member, Fimmagin, running sessions, as well as 11 additional volunteer Architects who help us run games. Normally you have to be a patron to join our Discord server sessions, but for the month of December we're inviting EVERYONE, patron or not, to come play in sessions with us. We'll help you make your character, get you familiarized with the rules, and soon enough you'll be trouncing through the Prison of Elders, beating up baddies and scoring mad loot.

But if you're looking to run your own game of D&Destiny, or to join games outside the Discord server, then we invite you to come post your LFG at r/DungeonsAndDestiny. This subreddit is more than just an LFG spot, though, you can talk about everything D&Destiny there: homebrew content, character art, feedback for the dev team, etc.

    Closing Words

First of all, I want to give a big shout-out to my dev team members for their tireless work in making v1.0 happen. I also want to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been following the project and supporting it, your support means so much to me & the team.

If anyone is wondering, yes Bungie is aware of the project and yes we have been given rules/guidelines to follow that we are 100% committed to, so we can keep working on this. We love Destiny so freaking much, and it's honestly a huge honor to get to make this project. If any devs are reading this, I want to give you a big giant freakin' THANK YOU!!! for making Destiny to begin with. I'd make that text a million times bigger if I could.

Thank you so much, and I hope everyone enjoys playing Dungeons & Destiny <3

    We Rebuilt The Morgeth Bridge

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 08:18 PM PST

So, we learned how to use Salvation's Grip to continuously "bridge", linking the ice together to form floating platforms. Using this, we took to one of the largest open spaces in the game and started making our way across.

Take the Hollowed Lair strike out of rotation or make kills count.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 04:29 PM PST

I'm super tired or grinding out these strikes I don't even like doing, for loot I'm gonna throw away, only to have most of the enemies in a strike I get non-stop not even count.

    Please stop.

Nightmare hunts go up to 1280. They drop gear that goes up to 1060. What the hell?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:54 AM PST

My friend asked me to help them finish up some moon stuff for harbinger yesterday. I just assumed it would be a cake walk. Before we loaded in, I saw the power level and had to change gear and take it seriously. Why is this a good idea?

EDIT: This isn't a blatant post complaining that I want moon gear back (which I do). It's strange to me that these activities got brought up to max light to maintain their challenge while their reward did not. I would have expected them to get the heroic menagerie or raid treatment, where it remained at 1050. Another bandaid would be to make it a pinnacle source and offer world drops, like nightfalls do.

Bungie Pls: It's time to make all exotics generate orbs of power if you aren't going to give them catalysts.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 11:08 AM PST

It's incredibly frustrating to be put at a disadvantage when using exotics because they aren't able to generate orbs just because bungie hasn't gotten around to releasing a catalyst for it yet

Reset my Gambit rank. My reward? A sunset weapon I can't use.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 04:26 AM PST

As a returning player, this makes no sense. Why have a reward for playing current content be a sunset weapon that cannot be taken into pve? What's the point of resetting gambit rank? Someone help me make sense of this.

Edit: I wish my posts about what I'm enjoying did this well. Thanks for the comments and advice, folks.

Clarification: this was not the drop from resetting my rank, it was the package the drifter has that becomes available after resetting at least once. Seems that new or returning players are not exactly being rewarded for that at this time.

Upgrade Modules are too Uncommon as a resource

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 06:46 AM PST

Why do you think that Upgrade Modules are either too uncommon or too common of a resource.

We can all agree the that banshee selling them for 2 different old vaulted planetary materials is annoying. However, are the other sources of getting upgrade modules too expensive or not expensive enough in your opinion?

Ex. comment: The bright dust consumable is 200 dust for one upgrade module it seems a little high if bungie wants us to actually use the item.

Please be civilized and have no personal attacks towards devs or other members of the community because you don't like their opinion. We all have opinions and it's fine to disagree now let's discuss why we disagree.

While the number of new legendaries disappoints me, the quality of the ones we did get are pretty high IMO

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:39 AM PST

The raid guns all feel really good to play with and worth playing the raid for, something that hasnt been true since like two guns from scourge IMO.

I dont know how to explain how i feel about the europa guns, but they all feel really good/fun aswell. While the raid guns have a clean/light feeling towards them, the europa guns feel like they hit like a truck, especially the shotty. I had a lot of fun using the rocket during the campaign aswell.

As for the seasonal guns, ive only used the breach grenade launcher and smg. I think the nade launcher is pretty good but the smg feels like any other smg.

Just wanted to throw out my thoughts out there

The animation for breaking out of stasis is stupid long.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:23 PM PST

Why do I have to keep tapping or "Long Press" a button to break out of stasis? Wth is a long press anyway? Do you mean "Hold" the button? Why not just say that?

Is there ever a time when I prefer to be trapped in ice? If not, why not just set a timer for two seconds and let my avatar break out automatically?

I'm not going to get into how bad this feels in PvP, smarter people than me have already talked about it.

Yellow bar hive shriekers are the most unfun thing in Gambit and completely go against the play style of the game.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 11:56 AM PST

Seriously. It's a game mode that is built around gung-ho slaying everything as fast as you can to summon a boss. Shriekers fucking suck, thank god they removed the time out thing because I think I'll just quit a match whenever I hear those fuckers on wave 1 going forward.

Yes, I personally rate shriekers worse than getting cheesed by Truth/1KV invasions.

    Updated: Hawkmoon Release Date

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 09:43 AM PST

    Hey all,

I spent some time messing around with the Featured carousel data and put it into what I believe is the correct order. I posted about today's reset yesterday on Twitter and the images at reset all matched up. If my data is correct that would mean that Hawkmoon Ornaments will show up in the carousel on Weeks 6, 7, 9, 12, and 13. The first time being the launch date and the same week The Dawning begins!

The ornaments will each sell for Dust once as well; Jan 5th and Jan 26th

^ At least, that is the current plan. This could change. :D

    TL;DR: Dec 15th 2020

Brigs may be the best new enemy the game has given us

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 06:55 AM PST

Is it just me, or are Brigs a stroke of genius. The remnants of Kell's scourge made small versions of Insurrection Prime, a raid final boss, as a normal enemy to use as heavy artillery. Sure, it could be considered a lazy recycling of assets, but it could also be to cement what the House of Salvation means to the general Eliksni outside of House Light. They're inclusion alone makes Salvation feel like much more of a rag-tag combination of remaining Fallen than it would otherwise. And it's design changes from Insurrection are pretty smart, completely hiding the precision spot behind metal shielding, requiring effort reminiscent of Insurrection, but ultimately different.

Atraks-1, Fallen Exo (made out of Lego!)

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 08:59 AM PST

    Hey!

Atraks-1 was a part of a realy cool encounter that took lifes of many guardians.. But man, Destroying her day one, and then getting to [Redacted] afterwards made for truely an amazing experience! Also, teaching the raid is very fun, as encounters are quite easy, however still mechanicaly challanging (and of course needing a whole lot of comunication!) which I enjoy :)

I hope you will enjoy this build too! Here is also her behind.

You can find me on Twitter, where I post a bunch more builds from other games (and some WIPs too!)

    Anyways, Love ya! <3

Despite the cut content, Beyond Light is honestly a great expansion

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 10:01 AM PST

I was fearful for the loss a lot of raids and activities, but man stasis is seriously awesome and I love going through wrecking absolutely everything with it, the extent of customisation the subclass allows for so many different play styles, especially when synergised with other exotics.

Also loving the fact so far it's getting me to look forward to each reset, and watching the world change with story and cutscenes/dialogue.

This would've been the perfect expansion imo had there been a couple more strikes, more crucible maps and loot, but regardless I am still enjoying the shit out of the game rn.

    My experience with Destiny

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 03:32 PM PST

I've been playing destiny since vanilla D1, through the ups and downs. The people I've met, the stories told, the bosses, the raids, the strikes, the never ending meme that is the crucible. Bungie has created a world so beautiful. The characters, the enemies, the worlds. I've been playing since I was 14 and now I'm almost 21 this game has given me so much I know it's cringy to say that a video game has helped me in my life... But the Bungie team has no joke helped me become a better person. The character Cayde-6 unironically helped me understand how to interact with people as I never had parents or friends. And because of him I've grown emotionally and sociably. I can't thank bungie enough for making this really good game that I also hate, but can't stop playing. It has its lows and the lows are very low. But when it's high, destiny is the most beautiful/fun video game I've ever experienced. This is just me speaking into the void and getting my thoughts out.
