Adds that are protected by Servitors should be vulnerable to anti-barrier round mod

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:47 AM PST

    Title says it all,

Example 1- I am somewhat frustrated by how annoying it gets when you need to leave only one servitor in Deep Stone Crypt (2nd encounter up in space) and the scanner buff vandal is protected by that very last servitor,

Example 2 - Nightfalls suffer in a way that if a barrier servitor grants vandals /adds / shanks a shield making it hard to press forward or hide and take down the barrier champion without getting wrecked by all the barrier adds surrounding it. an anti barrier mod should do as it says and penetrate that shield, I don't see how going kamikaze and running towards that servitor hoping I'd survive and have my teammate to finish the job and revive me is tactical in any way, just one more tweak away from becoming fully efficient in high leveled difficulty activities!

EDIT: This goes beyond DSC, please read it through before assuming I am only referring to DSC raid!

EDIT 2: WHOA 3.2k 0_0 Thank you for all of the engagement and awards!

All Exotics Having a Catalyst Should be a Priority

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:23 PM PST

Generating orbs is more than just faster super, it's a cornerstone in most builds. Becoming charged with light and absolution ability generation are a big part of a lot of pve builds and even in pvp. Exotics like monte carlo, jotuun, bastion, wavesplitter, tarabbah and MANY others not having orb generation at the very least puts them far behind other options. At the very least, it FEELS worse to use an exotic without one. Plus not having a kill tracker on my chaperone hurts my soul. I know it's said a lot, but this one needs to be said often because it's a real problem.

    The Trials Population Funnel

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:44 PM PST

I'm a software designer that focuses on traffic distribution inside of large networks. I wrote this to get me into the spirit of doing work now that winter vacation is over. It probably isn't interesting to most, and is less polished than what I'd normally submit to stakeholders, but I wanted to try and sum up some thoughts floating around my head around the issue of Trials population.

Most people that play Destiny won't ever play Trials more than once, even those who play activities like Raids and Dungeons. Something about the game mode has scared off nearly everyone except the most diehard fans. Without trying to analyze whether this is right or wrong (to Bungie, Trials may be going just fine!), I spent some time considering the narrow funnel that makes the activity population so small.

TLDR: Trials has a small population due to difficulty in establishing interest, fireteam assembly, fatigue, and perceived gameplay unfairness.

    Interest

Interest represents the first narrowing of the funnel. Given the current rewards structure, it is just difficult to get people interested in the game mode. Interest usually takes the shape of a value proposition: "What can I gain from doing this activity?" The answer for Trials is pretty complicated.

    1. Trials has its own set of armor and weapons. The armor looks nice, but doesn't have any special perks. Some of the weapons are very good, but mostly for PVP.
    2. You can get Trials items for winning a specific number of matches, but the items change every week.
    3. You can get tokens which can be exchanged for items that you have previously received, but the tokens require you to do bounties and achieve a specific number of wins before you can exchange them.
    4. If you win 7 games without losing, you can receive additional rewards, including weapons that have special mods and a temporary armor glow.

There is a lot of mental calculus that goes into the question "Should I play Trials this week?" Do I care about Trials gear? If so, which items? Is the item I want available this week? Can I achieve the number of wins for that item? Can I get the item I want with tokens? This series of questions leads to the pre-emptive death of most Trials attempts. Most people either don't understand what they might gain from playing, don't believe they can achieve the necessary wins to get the item they want, or just don't want any items in the weekly Trials rewards pool.

    Fireteam Assembly

Fireteam assembly represents the second narrowing of the funnel. The challenge of fireteam assembly affects every endgame activity, but none so much as Trials. To assemble your fireteam, you need to find 2 interested, max level friends who have consecutive hours free during the weekend when the item you want is available. LFG tools like Discord can be used to find interested strangers, but most people aren't comfortable joining strangers to play a highly competitive PVP activity that requires near constant communication. In other words, you're probably only going to play Trials with people you already know.

Given these constraints, assembling a fireteam is somewhere between impossible and inconvenient for most people. You might not have 2 friends that play Destiny. You might not have 2 friends that are max level. You might not have consecutive weekend hours free at the same time as your other potential fireteam members. We haven't launched the activity yet, but this is already the end of the road for most people.

    Fatigue

Fatigue represents the third narrowing of the funnel. It refers to the mental and emotional strain created by playing the activity. A Trials match lasts 5 to 9 rounds, depending on how long it takes a team to reach 5 wins. Each round can last between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, on average. This makes the typical match about 9 minutes long. Multiply this by however many wins and losses it takes you to get your desired item and you've got your time commitment for the week. For most people, this is probably around 2 hours of gameplay.

This doesn't sound like a lot of time, but each match feels a lot longer than it actually is. All of the mental and emotional energy you spend during each round is inconsequential at the start of the next one. The clutch play you had in Round 1 doesn't change much about Round 2. The 5 kills you got in Round 2 don't matter because your team ultimately lost that round. When the next round starts, you have to mentally distance yourself from the events that took place a minute prior. You must repeat this process 4 to 8 times a game. The start-stop-start flow of gameplay creates a sort of stuttering emotional rollercoaster. By the end of a 10 minute match, it isn't uncommon to feel like 30 minutes have passed.

Implicit in this is the understanding that losing a round or match makes every following round or match a little more tiresome. Losing 3 matches in a row is enough for some people to end their run for the week. If you lose enough times without getting any items, it may be enough for you to swear off Trials forever.

    Fairness

Fairness represents the narrowest point in the funnel. Part of the equation of fairness is gun and ability balance. While it probably doesn't keep an interested first-timer out of the game mode, unbalanced guns or abilities can diminish a returning player's potential interest in starting a card for the week. Another part of fairness is cheating and hacking. If you encounter a cheater during an important game, this can be enough to turn you off the game mode forever.

Maybe the most important part of fairness is matchmaking. To understand why matchmaking can feel unfair, you have to look at the prior pieces of the funnel. The Trials population funnel has removed all players who:

    1. Aren't max level
    2. Aren't interested in the weeks rewards
    3. Aren't comfortable with using LFG and don't have 2 real life friends who are max level and interested with a compatible schedule
    4. Find the activity too fatiguing
    5. Find the activity unfair due to gameplay balance or cheating

The people who manage to consistently reach the bottom of the funnel are only the most committed. They experience less fatigue than other players, likely because they are winning more often and can expect consistent rewards. They will play Trials even if it means the discomfort of using LFG or occasionally losing to unbalanced abilities or hackers. They play every week that Trials is up and are experienced with the intricacies of the game mode. An aspirational fireteam going for the 3 win reward once a month can and often will face these players on Match 1. They could be forgiven for thinking that Trials isn't meant for them.

    Conclusion

As a result, the small population for Trials becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Only the most committed players queue up for the activity more than once. Everyone else has been filtered out by the funnel. The population stays small because a lack of interest, the difficulty of assembling a fireteam, gameplay fatigue, and perceived unfairness keep most people away.

You now have 20% damage resistance while placing your rift.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:27 AM PST

I haven't seen anyone mention this, so here we go.

I don't know if this is intended or not, I haven't seen this in BL or recent patchnotes. I also don't know when bungie implemented this, just noticed this in PvP the other day.

The damage reduction will last until the animation is at the point where your character is at his lowest point before moving his hand up again, so it covers about 75% of the animation.

That will make 140 HCs a 4 tap for example or wont let damage buffed 120 HCs 2 tap you.

This works on every subclass with both empowering and healing rifts.

Getting a great roll on a piece of armor that expires next season feels bad. They should only drop once so that they are in collections and then all armor should be armor from this season capable of being infused to 1410.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:02 PM PST

Bungie pretty much acknowledged armor is in a bad state as just stat sticks. Given that, it feels bad to get a great armor drop that has an arbitrary infusion cap that's not 1410. I'd like for any armor drop I get to be infusible to 1410 this season and 1460 next season.

Convert 3000 glimmer into 10 bright dust with Eva’s Holiday Oven before Tuesday

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:07 PM PST

Chances are you have a ton of left over ingredients from the Dawning that you're not using anymore and will expire on Tuesday.

You can buy additional bounties from Eva for 3000 glimmer and they are always just a random baked good. With a masterworked oven it's a snap to make these and turn in the bounty for 10 bright dust.

You don't need to deliver them, you can simply destroy them from your inventory if you want.

When you kill an Acolyte, their shell-like armor breaks off, and reveals a mutated Thrall inside.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:55 PM PST

    https://ibb.co/QdkS7T1

According to the lore, Hive are all one species, not separate ones like Fallen. For example, it's been confirmed Ogres are just Thrall that have been tortured by Wizards, and forcibly mutated in a dark ritual that turns them into Ogres. If you look at the 2nd pic, you can see that sharp spikes have been driven through the Thrall's arms and body, evidence of the brutal torture.

Also, if you look at a Thrall up close, you can see a thin membrane covering 3 eyes underneath, which are fully formed when they turn into Acolytes. It's kind of like CRISPR, and Thrall can be modified to turn into any of the various Hive enemies we encounter, including Wizards and Knights, which also start as Thrall.

This game really needs a guides & tutorials tab

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:18 AM PST

I see endless posts about new light players not understanding even the most basic ideas of progression and power leveling in this game. When your game reaches a point where players only know what to do by having friends help them or by online guides, that's the point when they get frustrated and stop playing. New players don't know how to manage random rolls, armor stats, masterworking, powerful/pinnacles, or any other part of the endgame because none of it is ever comprehensively explained. If there was a guide tab, I feel like a lot more new players would stay for longer instead of getting confused and moving to other games.

    Make Gambit worth playing

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:43 AM PST

There is no reason to play Gambit anymore. The ritual weapons are sunset. Weapons like sole survivor and spare rations are sunset. Removed the reckoning, and Gambit prime. Even the Gambit armor (reaper, collector, invader, etc) is sunset. I believe they removed some maps from Gambit. Now Gambit is nothing worth playing anymore. I want an entire rework of Gambit, so that maybe I can start playing it again. Thank you, thats all.

Sunday Plz - Buff Rocket Launchers

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:00 AM PST

    Greetings Guardians!

Ever since the conception of this sub, we've dealt with floods of reposts. We're sure you're familiar with them. Many are for important issues that are shared by the entire player base, while others are just for personal requests and desires for the game. The Bungie Plz was shortly implemented after conception as a central "wish-list" for all that we, the community, desired. It is completely user driven. With rare exceptions, nearly all submissions are sent in by you, the users of this subreddit!

However, just like Destiny 2, our wiki article began to experience problems as it grew over time. It's been getting just a few sizes too big. We understand that the continued addition of topics has begun to encroach on your ability to continue the conversation towards matters that mean the most to you, and even though the Bungie Plz has seen so many successes over the years, with well over 100 officially implemented game suggestions and desires, there's still dozens upon dozens of retired topics that haven't seen the light of day for many months...even years!

Every Sunday, this thread will focus on a certain retired Bungie Plz topic of your choosing, voted by the users. We will curate a list of 5 suggestions to help focus your voting process, but you get the final say on what is talked about each week. By all means, if one topic is overwhelmingly desired despite not being part of those 5 items we picked, then we'll be happy to go with that one. Our curated list is only to help you focus the conversation. The only stipulation is that the topic must be new every week. This thread is for the entirety of the Bungie Plz wiki, so no back-to-back voting!

Think of these threads as a way to keep the spark alive, and to bring old topics up to fresh light. For example, do we still want to move Queenbreaker to the special slot? Or does Arbalest serve that purpose well enough now? Do we still want an all-black shader, or do we want a character barbershop more?

You tell us! This is your conversation, guardians.

For this week, you guys voted on:

Give Rocket Launchers a Buff! (Damage/Magazine Size)

For next week, here are some suggestions:

    • Adjust/Reduce Console Recoil to match that of PC
    • Rework the Black Talon Catalyst
    • Revert the Box Breathing Nerf
    • Let us apply shaders to exotic weapons
    • Remove RNG Elements from Seals/Titles

Sound off in the sticky comment for which one sounds good (just give us a moment to put it up), or anything else in the Bungie Plz wiki that catches your eye, and we'll do our best to accommodate!

Remember the daybreak strike modifier from D1?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:15 PM PST

Yeah mayhem is cool, but have you ever defeated Taniks using only supers? I know I might be in the minority here talking about strikes, but seriously the Daybreak modifier in weekly strike playlists was awesome. I miss going into a strike with a few buddies and just blasting supers & abilities left and right almost never using weapons. I wish bungie would bring it back into D2, it would definitely be welcomed for sure and new lights would totally have a blast with it!

For those of you who don't know, D1 had a fairly rare strike modifier that made ability regen as fast as it is in Crucible Mayhem, so it was pretty lit. But like I said it wasn't very often, so it was quite a treat when it happened.
