This week at Bungie, Hawkmoon is back on the menu.

The new Harbinger activity went live this week to accompany the Hawkmoon Exotic quest... like a proverbial peanut butter and jelly. You can now finish this new activity to earn your catalyst to add some extra spice to Hawkmoon. The new activity also lets you earn random rolls so you can start hunting for the perfect one to fit your style. Play the tape!

    Video Link

Completing the Hawkmoon catalyst from the Harbinger activity will not only bring your winged weapon to its full potential but also unlock the Bungie Rewards long-sleeve shirt for purchase. This Hawkmoon inspired shirt is the latest Seasonal offering available on your Bungie Rewards page.

    Sticking Around

As we have mentioned in the past, we are moving to make Seasonal content stick around longer to reduce the amount of FOMO, otherwise known as "fear of missing out," in Destiny 2. Our goal is to help players experience narrative beats and activities even if they start playing later after the Season has ended.

Here's a look at what's sticking around from Season of the Hunt until the end of Year 4.

    • Story missions will be able to be launched from a node in the Director.
    • Wrathborn Hunts
    • Adored quest will continue to be available.
    • Crow's vender screen on Tangled Shore.
    • Hawkmoon Exotic quest and Master activity.
    • Seasonal Seal and Warden Title.

      • Seasonal Seal must still be earned by the deadline on the Bungie Rewards page. Due to an issue blocking the Triumph we will be adjusting this deadline.

Here are a few things that will no longer be available at the end of the Season:

    • Crow's Bounties
    • Messages from the Field
    • Seasonal Artifact
    • Season Pass

Shifting to keep more of this content around after the Season ended has created some weirdness for Season of the Hunt, which was initially designed assuming the old model. This is why Crow was still hanging around in Spider's lair right after being unceremoniously kicked out earlier in the Season. You may see other anomalies involving Crow in Season 13 as he'll be moving to a new destination while also remaining on the Tangled Shore to enable Season of the Hunt content tied to his inventory.

Season 13 should avoid these rough edges as its content has been designed from the outset to remain throughout Year 4.

Umbral Engrams Are Back! (They're pretty insane)

Back in 2020, Season of Arrivals introduced a new feature called Umbral Engrams which allowed Guardians to Focus rewards to the type of weapons and armor rolls they most desired. The system was well-received by the community so we decided to do a little tuning and bring them back for Season 13 as well as future seasons in Year 4.

While the new Seasonal activity will always provide the fastest path to earning new rewards. We want to ensure that regardless of how you spend your time in Destiny, Umbral Engrams allow you to chase new rewards.

Similar to Season of Arrivals, Umbral Engrams will drop from completing a variety of content. We have pared back the number of activities they will drop from so you can focus on the following activities if you are looking to farm some Umbral Engrams:

    • Patrols
    • Strikes
    • Crucible
    • Gambit
    • The Ordeal
    • Public Events
    • Blind Well
    • Nightmare Hunts
    • Exo Challenges
    • Empire Hunts
    • New Seasonal Activity

Note: Umbral Engrams also have a chance to drop from defeating enemies anywhere in the game, so even if you're not grinding this list of activities and playlists, you'll still be earning some Umbral Engrams.

You may notice fewer umbral engrams sitting in your inventory than before. While it was fun to watch umbral engrams rain down on players in season 11, the drop rates were higher than expected and so we are rebalancing the drop rate.

There will be a short quest to show players how to use the new Prismatic Recaster (read more about this below) to Focus Umbral Engrams. This quest is account-wide so you only have to do it once.

    Prismatic Recaster

The Prismatic Recaster returns as a kiosk with the capability to change Umbral Engrams into Focused Umbral Engrams, which contain a smaller loot-table. Because Umbral Engrams are here to stay, the new Recaster will have different pages for each Season, and you will be able to Focus engrams to the Season of your choice.

    Image Linkimgur

Once you have used the Prismatic Recaster to Focus your Engram, you will still need to take it to the Umbral Decoder to claim your new reward!

Note: Season of the Hunt's Wrathborn rewards will not be featured on the Prismatic Recaster in Season 13, because players can still use the Wrathborn Lure to chase specific weapons and rolls.

    Prismatic Lens

We have a new way to unlock different Focusing options for your Umbral Engrams through a new reward called Prismatic Lenses.

A Prismatic Lens will unlock a new Focusing option so you can:

    • Target a narrower collection of gear.
    • Target specific armor stats.

You will be able to earn Prismatic Lenses by doing various activities in the game and you can track your progress towards unlocking lenses at the Prismatic Recaster. We don't want to spoil everything though - so we'll let you discover how to start earning these in Season 13.

    Titles - A Gilded Age

One of the most satisfying feelings in Destiny is watching your list of completed Triumphs fill up to unlock new Seals and Titles. We have some plans to further improve this feature and give you yet another way to flex on other Guardians in the Tower. Here is the Triumphs Design Team with the details.

Triumphs Design Team: Hey everyone, welcome to a new year!

We wanted to share a change coming to Seals and Titles in Season 13. As I'm sure you've noticed, we've been shipping a Flawless and Conqueror Title each of the last three Seasons. We liked the idea of reengaging with Titles Season over Season, but we don't like the challenge and time commitment of doing the entire thing every Season. So, it's time to make a change!

As always, we start with the goals:

    • Allow players to show off their engagement with the core rituals season over Season.
    • Preserve the value of earning the base Title.
    • Decrease the amount of grind required Season over Season for players that want to earn them all.

Starting with season 13, if a player has completed the Seal for one of our core ritual Titles (Unbroken, Dredgen, Flawless, Conqueror), players will have a series of additional Seasonal objectives to gild that Title.

But wait, what does gilded mean?

    • A series of Seasonal objectives to gild a core ritual Title.
    • A new border around the Seal in the Triumphs UI.
    • A pip tracking how many times in your career that you've gilded a given Title.
    • A new color and symbol for the Title over your head. So that you can show off, of course.

    Image Linkimgur

What do I have to do to gild a Title?

Once you finish the base Seal and claim your hard-earned Title, a list of optional Seasonal objectives will be revealed. By completing these Seasonal objectives you'll earn your gild for the Season.

    Image Linkimgur

What happens when the Season is over?

Each Season, the optional gilding objectives will reset and may even change to fit the unique experiences of any given Season. All of the base objectives of the Title will be preserved, and your Title will revert to its typical purple coloring.

    Which Titles will be affected?

The four core rituals of Trials, The Ordeal, Crucible, and Gambit.

    • Flawless
    • Conqueror
    • Unbroken
    • Dredgen

    Feedback please!

These changes are a result of the constructive feedback we get from all flavors of players in the Destiny community. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Keep that feedback coming and happy Triumph hunting.

    DUST AND ECHOES

Almost nine years ago, stats and files from our previous franchise, Halo, stopped getting updated on Bungie.net. Since then, all stats, files, and other data from Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach have lived on in remembrance at halo.bungie.net.

On February 9, the halo.bungie.net website will be taken offline permanently. Everyone is welcome to save their stats and files, however they can, if they'd like to save anything. Please keep in mind that our News articles, Forums, and Groups were imported into the current version of Bungie.net back in 2013.

Additionally, personal custom Halo avatars that are currently used on Bungie.net will be removed on February 9 due to its functionality living on halo.bungie.net. We are exploring options to bring those back in some capacity, but we recommend saving them to your computer in the meantime.

    KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:

    • We're investigating an issue with Sony where Playstation users can't send invites through the Companion App or Bungie.net.
    • The Lightseeker Triumph isn't unlocking after claiming all five feathers from the Harbinger mission.
    • The Birds of a Feather Triumph is not unlocking when players complete the Harbinger activity when all players have Hawkmoon equipped.
    • VO lines are not playing during the Harbinger activity.
    • The black Blight orbs left behind by the High Celebrant won't open portals if shot by Sidearms.
    • The High Celebrant will always show "Immune" damage, even with the Wrathborn buff active. The High Celebrant will still take the proper damage if the buff is active. This will be resolved in a future update.
    • The Augment lockout timer occasionally resets during the final encounter against Taniks.
    • Sometimes the wrong tether box gets tethered during the final encounter of the Garden of Salvation raid.
    • The plates in the puzzle room during the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid sometimes won't work if a Titan Ward of Dawn or Warlock Well of Radiance touch them.

For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

I am a very poor artist and have never been able to draw very well. This makes the beautiful community-created art that fills up my timelines even more impressive to me. It's truly amazing seeing what you all come up with using the world we built. Here are a few amazing pieces from this week.

If you won, make sure you post a link to your Bungie.net profile as a comment under your winning art post so we know that you are you.

We know there are a lot of community conversations happening around the current state of the game. I don't want to lean too far into the "We're listening" meme but it's 100% true that we take community feedback to heart and are absolutely considering community concerns and suggestions as we continue to evolve our plans for 2021 and beyond. Earlier this week, Assistant Game Director Joe Blackburn put out a Tweet mentioning this and that we will give an update to the community with a deeper dive into the state of Destiny.

Last year, I said Destiny's Best Days are ahead. Seeing what's coming, I believe this more than ever. But we have work to do to get there. 2021 is going to be a little different for Destiny. Taking some time to validate our plans, but expect a state of Destiny 2021 next season.

    — Joe Blackburn (@joegoroth) January 19, 2021

We love Destiny 2 and love having the privilege to work on it. We're excited about some of the changes we have next Season and will have some more to lay out over the next few weeks as well. Thanks for playing.

Bungie, could we get a Vidoc about Michael Salvatori and the orchestra and the music devs? Engineers?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 02:06 PM PST

I'm not sure what the music people at Bungie would technically be called? I'm a mechanic but called a Technician....anyways. I'm listening to Hashladûns Fall from the Shadowkeep Soundtrack. I've never heard it all the way through due to a Celestial Nighthawk that she receives in the strike; the grandmaster changed that yesterday. We see the posts about how bangin' the music is from this game which are all 1000% based on fact. Just a passing thought thanks!

Gentle Reminder for Bungie to Add Catalysts to Older Exotics

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 11:28 AM PST

With the recent arrival of Hawkmoon and it's catalyst, it's sad seeing other older exotics left in the dust still with no catalyst.

Some people want cool additional perks or stat boosts to their favourite exotics whereas others just want to make orbs. Either way, catalysts are missing!

Edit: Thanks for the awards!! First post to ever receive them, I have peaked, it's all down hill from here. I'm at work but will check out the comments after!

Guardians should not be able to be frozen in a Well of Radiance

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 07:33 AM PST

Title. Well has become a complete joke in PvP since the introduction of Stasis. Folks don't even need a super anymore to kill you. A glacier grenade or any freezie pretty much is a GGs. Please bring back some PvP utility to my favorite subclass.

Edit: Thanks for the dialogue, y'all. Glad to see that I'm not crazy for wanting this. Also thank you for the silver! This is legit my first one ever. ^_^

Enable matchmaking for 1250 light activities aka legend.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 07:28 AM PST

The powerful cap is 1250, and the legend activity is not that much more difficult than the hero version. It just makes player use the lfg tool, which can take a hefty amount of time.

The legend activities matching the powerful cap should have matchmaking on.

We definitely need new Crucible maps

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 07:36 AM PST

Title. I've been playing since the release of Shadowkeep. And I'm getting bored with playing Crucible due to the lack of maps, especially after the DCV. My clanmates also share this feeling too. We need new maps besides balancing. It will bring some refreshment.

Equipping titles should add head flair to characters like the old blue nightfall flames in D1.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:01 AM PST

I think quite a few of us remember doing the nightfall in D1 and earning that coveted flaming blue head flair. I also miss them in D2. Each title should have their own unique head flair/animation with the ability to turn it on or off.

Edit: per TWAB, gilded titles sound cool. Almost had em' though!

The small successes of Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 08:53 PM PST

The Destiny community tends to be louder about even the smallest failures than they are about the biggest successes. We're especially quiet about the smaller successes. So let's compile a list of the small successes of Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt.

By "smaller" I mean smaller than "the Harbinger mission is awesome" or "DSC is the best raid since ____" or "PVP weapon balancing is better than ever." Things we've noticed but haven't really mentioned out loud... quality of life upgrades and such.

Note: many of these could justifiably be countered with a "well \___ should ____ in the first place!" or "____ would have been way better!" ... But let's not do that here. We're gonna play blindly optimistic, for once. No matter how deeply the silver linings are hidden in the dark rainclouds, we're gonna find them.)

    • Ghost mods - and masterworking them is cheap.
    • Armor mod changes - legacy mod slots, fewer affinity-dependent mods, etc.
    • All sparrows given quick summon.
    • Lots of new pinnacle and powerful gear sources.
    • Europa weapons and armor guaranteed to drop from high value target chests.
    • Multiple ways to farm Europa gear - HVT chests, weapon bounties, empire hunts, lost sectors.
    • Rotating empire hunts that don't require the preliminary quest steps, while also having the option to do any hunt at any time.
    • New areas and rooms on Europa continuing to open as the weeks progress.
    • Campsite and penguin room for displaying Europa trinkets.
    • Fragments unlock account-wide. But what about grenades?!
    • Trials gear was bumped from 1310- to 1360-capped.
    • Adept Trials weapons and new gear from old raids are 1410-capped.
    • Wrathborn hunts are easily solo-able.
    • Improved descriptions on certain mods and perks.
    • Elemental Capacitor buffs now visible on stat bar.
    • Getting bounties from the app.
    • Bounties from multiple vendors tend to match up or overlap.
    • As OP as Stasis is... at least they had the foresight to increase the ability cooldown time.
    • DSC raid chest and spoils of war system - okay, this one is probably pushing it for the "small successes" theme.
    • Leaving a fireteam doesn't kick you to orbit (or whatever it is, I mostly play solo).
    • Variks can still hear us through the window.

I'll edit the post to add to the list as we go!

For the people in raids who “I just wanna be ADD clear.”

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 02:33 PM PST

You would be surprised the amount of LFG raids I've done where people have multiple completions and still don't know at least one of the roles. If you actively choose to not learn a new roll then why are you doing the raid? It's not a 3 to 4 player activity with 2 people just along for the ride. And for the people who don't raid often, I understand, makes total sense. But, if you're raiding weekly and you still don't know how to do one roll for each encounter, what're you doing man? Be an active member of the fireteam and ask to learn the different jobs, you're only hurting yourself and the fireteam by not knowing the roles. I don't care if I get downvoted, you know I'm right

after some testing i'm almost sure there is something wrong with matchmaking criteria

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 12:02 PM PST

disclaimer: as advised i can't show footage from any game or link match page in bungie.net that shows other players ID's, but i'm gladly to do send it the mods to verify it, and more than glad to provide more information if i'm asked.

lately i was having bad pvp experience, due some latency problem, it got noticeable after this expansion, i have noticed this issue before but i never give it that much of attention.

almost every time i play crucible or gambit i get some angry messages saying i'm lagging, which is true but they were lagging on my side too.

i usually play other online games such as battlefield (server based online game) and never got any issues, so basically i thought it's something to do with some destiny networking bug.

back to destiny, at first i wondered why are they sending me these messages in english, italian and german when i live in a country that doesn't speak any of it, so i replayed back to some of them asking where they live, i was surprised that i got matched with europian and american lobbies.

after a while i got frustrated then decided to play only for my pinnacles, usually i leave extremely lagging matches if i don't get kicked from some error (except for mayhem because usually no one cares about their k/d)

as usual i checked my internet settings (download and upload speed, ping, open ports, DMZ, NAT, DNS, wires ... etc) and everything seemed fine for my 50 Mbps fibre optic line.

anyway few weeks ago i got some trouble with my destiny account in crucible and gambit, so i done a basic research and found out that i can't know for sure why i got the trouble access issue, i can only guess if it's from my connectivity.

so i asked my friend if i can borrow his modem called Netduma, it has good reviews for gaming settings. but all i wanted is the main feature: showing my lobby location.

my test was 3 crucible and 3 gambit matches from last week, and the same goes to this week, and recorded the modem's page that shows the lobby location.

my surprise was it showed that i got matched with europe and north america and south america ! all that time i was playing with players from other continents.

here is the test from last week

this week after the patch and after updating the modem:

for my limited experience this shows there is something wrong with matchmaking criteria.

i'm wondering why would a CBMM game throws me to different continents? even SBMM shouldn't do that.

i wanted to use one of this modem features and lock my search on local players but i'm afraid it might get me another limited access issue for more than two weeks this time.

i'm really confused right now, am i testing this wrong? is this some sort of global networking issue that my country has? is it from destiny search criteria? i have no idea.

thanks for reading and sorry for my english.

    So, I solo'd the Harbinger Mission 27 Power under-level.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 06:29 AM PST

Here's how you can do the same.

    1. For your subclass, you're going to want either Banner Shield Sentinel, Slowva-Bomb Voidwalker, or Moebius Quiver Tether. Armamentarium for the Titan, Contraverse for the Warlock, and Frostees for Hunter. Absolutely do not use Sixth Coyote. Trust me on this.
    2. Match Game is a thing. And every single element is well-represented. Arbalest is your best friend here, and not just because of the shields, but also because of those thrice-cursed Vandal snipers. There is one part of the mission where Witherhoard is the play, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
    3. To return to the subject of shields and snipers, the energy weapon you are going to need is the longest range pulse-rifle you can get. Because Anti-Barrier Rounds. The activity descriptor may say Unstoppable, but trust me, the only part Unstops give you trouble is the one spot where you absolutely do not have time to switch weapons. I used a nice Stars in Shadow, but Jian 7 works as well.
    4. Leave the sword at home, you're bringing either a machine gun or a linear fusion (I know, right?). If an enemy so much as breathes in your direction, you're dead. If you have an Arc pulse, then solar heavy, and vice versa. I myself used the Seventh Seraph SAW.
    5. The Emissaries fights are all peak-shooting. That being said, you are going to want to clear out all the Vandals before you try anything else, because they can and will one-shot you.
    6. The part with Unstoppables: the circular boss room. This is the part where you switch Arbalest to Witherhoard, just before the fight starts. The first part of this fight is the Vandals from a distance, plus two Arc-shielded centurions. If you leave the Centurions alive to the last, and if your designated Arc weapon is your heavy, you might be able to switch weapons fast enough to an Unstop. Because once you put the Centurions down, all hell breaks loose. And because Solar shields are a big thing in the second half of the fight, your Unstoppable hand-cannon should probably match. I recommend Ancient Gospel.
    7. You are going to be running like the wind for the second phase of the fight, mostly because if you touch the ground for too long, you're dead. Your main method of clearing out the Champions and Void-shielded Wizards is to alternate between your grenade and Witherhoard shots. Voidwall and Votrex nades are the best, hands down. Hunters have it easier here, because they can alternate between nades and Invisibility Smokes as the situation calls for it. That being said, the other two classes Supers' are far better at clearing out the enemies.
    8. Congratulations: you made it through the jumping puzzle. You've blasted the boss down to 2/3 health, and decimated the Goblins. Now prepare to hide behind a strategic rock in the back right corner, peak shotting the two solar-shielded Knights from afar. You may be tempted to focus on the Void Acolytes: don't. Because those Knights will keep respawning them until they themselves die. Once they fall, clear out the Acolytes, and whack away at the boss until he's 1/3 health. You will have to repeat this process one more time.
    9. Sit back and enjoy your well-earned rewards.

Edit: The reason I specified no Sixth Coyote is because at twenty-five levels below vs twenty, there's a lot more things that can demolish you up close. Frostees at least lets you run into a wall behind cover to build up your charges.

Okay. Hear me out, reprise old nightfall exclusives and add them to the overall strike loot pool.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 08:48 AM PST

Since the removal of the old nightfalls and the return of our first Destiny 1 strike, we have one weapon obtainable exclusively from strike, that being xenoclast. We're going to be getting Fallen S.A.B.E.R. returning next season, and I've already seen a post asking for its old exclusive to return with it. The shared world pool is a great idea, but it takes away from the uniqueness of the activities.

Little idea I got scrolling through reddit. Discuss.

Seasons need to follow Arrivals and Worthy in the sense that they need to shower us with Loot to make them interesting outside of stories

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 04:37 AM PST

Guys I just want to say I meant 'Dawn' and not Worthy here. Worthy was not great.

Credit where due, Hunt had an amazing character development story and it was loved by almost everyone who's into the Story. That's great but it ends and it ends rather quickly

Dawn and Arrivals also told engaging and deep stories, ones worth investing in

The difference between the 3 however is they acted as a true end game activity to farm loot, Hunt does not

Crows Hunts should have been more expansive in the way to acquire loot and also be a way to acquire world loot as a secondary chance at the loot pools. This could have been included in Hunt bounties or even the Hunts themselves via upgrading Crow during the season

Less is not more in Destiny. I don't think Arrivals and Dawn gave us too but they did what Bungie seems to be aiming for, enhancing the core experience because the bounties / loot could be done anywhere, the 'play how you want' mantra was achieved

Just to add, Hunt weapons were not good enough in the sandbox overall and should have done more to be desirable be that special perks or just more unique perks for them

I’d like to see old shaders be given the exotic kiosk treatment

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:15 PM PST

There are a ton of amazing shaders that a ton of players missed out on such as the Black Armory ones.

I think it would be great for the game if there was a way to buy old retired shaders that can't be earned anymore ingame such as the system with the exotic kiosk.

Perhaps not all shaders as I can imagine some players would be outraged if others could buy shaders you had to grind for, but definitely RNG shaders would really benefit that system as well.

I know most people want a shader system overhaul in general, but this would be a nice addition in the meantime while we wait for that. :)

Dark Phantom Energy may be the antithesis of Void Light. The Red Death of Nightmares and Invaders.

Now as it happens I already had a working theory so I thought it best to share it in this post. What's more, I also believe that we have witnessed this dark power and it's effects several times in both the lore and in the game itself. This post is long but I guarantee you it will be worth the read.

But before we begin, for those who haven't been following my previous posts here is a recap of what I believe to be the scientific nature of Light and Darkness.

    • According to quantum field theory, the universe can be thought of not as isolated particles but continuous fluctuating fields.
    • Force fields, whose quanta are bosons (e.g., photons and gluons) are manipulated by the thermodynamic effects of Solar and Stasis.
    • Matter fields, whose quanta are fermions (i.e., electrons, protons, neutrons and neutrinos) are manipulated by the electrodynamic and electrochemical effects of Arc and potentially the Decay induced transmutation of Hive magic.
    • Zero-point fields, are the lowest-energy or ground state of the above fields. All these fields have zero-point energy considered to be the energy of the vacuum.
      • All properties of matter are merely vacuum fluctuations arising from interactions of the zero-point field.
      • The zero-point field can be manipulated by Void Light in order to tap into the potential energy existing in the void (the energy gradient between the vacuum of space and the true vacuum)

It's that last one that we really want to focus on as it's likely that the third Darkness power will also be able to manipulate the vacuum of space in a similar manner to Void Light. But it's important that we understand what Void Light is and what we are doing when we wield it.

    The Void beneath the Vacuum

As I've mentioned before, according to quantum field theory the vacuum of space is by no means a simple empty space because of the uncertainty of the zero-point field with means that the vacuum fluctuates. Particles and anti-particles fizz in and out of existence. There is energy and therefore the potential for matter hidden beneath the void.

A simple way to think of the void is like the lake beneath a sheet of ice. You may think you are standing on the ground while standing on the sheet of ice but the true ground is several meters below you feet. And if you want to tap into the water below that sheet in order to make blocks of ice for an igloo you need a tool like a pick-axe in order to crack open the sheet.

Our Void abilities act like the pick-axe and allow us to reach into this void and seemingly pull "something out of nothing" in the form of Void Light. If harnessing Void allows us to pull something out of nothing than it would be logical to assume that what ever dark inverse existed it would have the ability to turn something into nothing.

    Dark Matter

What we think of as "somethingness" is often defined in our ability to interact with it in nature, to "see and feel" something using our senses and ultimately through it's interaction with the fundamental forces.

Dark matter is believed to not interact with the fundamental forces except for gravity. In fact this is literally the only way we are able to know it exists is because of it's gravitational influence. If you encountered dark matter in real life you would likely never know you did because it emits no photons of light for your eyes to perceive and does not interact with the electrostatic forces of your fingers. And the gravitational effect would be far too small to recognize.

Dark matter is truly dark and yet when we manipulate the quantum fluctuations of the vacuum using Void, suddenly we see bolts of Void Light known as axions scatter and dart. Axions are hypothetical particles of cold dark matter.

"This, er, rustic device was once an experimental axion emitter, which sprays weird particles to light up the basement of the universe." - The Wardcliff Coil

By manipulating the Void using the Light we are essentially "lightening" matter. Turning dark matter into light matter. Something tangible we can see and feel. Draw into bows, inflate into bubbles of false vacuum or compress into micro-singularities to later detonate in a supernova of ethereal fire.

So it stands to reason then that it's antithesis would "darken" matter. Paracausally prevent regular matter from interacting with the Light. I believe we have already seen this and have three lore entries to back my case.

    Mars, Mercury, Titan and Io

Perhaps the most notable is the fate of these two planets and two moons. After we witnessed the arrival of the Pyramids we saw them hang in the sky for weeks. And then just before Beyond Light as we were witnessing the Traveler repairing itself - the Darkness encroached and only the Travelers Light stopped the Pyramids.

In the aftermath these planets and moons were gone. We see a closer inspection when Osiris visits these worlds.

Saturn grieves the loss of Titan. The cerulean jewel that once was had sunken into the gullet of the abyss. In its place, an anomaly , dark and rimmed in gravitational lensing.

Phobos and Deimos orbit the grave of Mars where a roiling depth festers, hungry and reaching out to the little moons caught within its influence.

From this we understand that they are still there but the Darkness's influence has sunk them into a dark void that can only be perceived by the gravitational lensing of the light from the stars as it passes where the planetoid used to be.

It's not a black-hole or a singularity. The moons of Phobos and Deimos still still orbit the grave of Mars as though nothing has happens. They have simply gone dark.

    Asher Mir's Observation

Reading the lore entry Asher: Observation we can start to appreciate some of the science behind what might be going on. Man of science though he was, the first thing Asher Mir did when the Pyramid arrived on Io was shoot the damned thing.

At the moment of impact, the projectile stopped existing.

So then Asher assembles another missile, one with a detectable radiation signature and a radio signal. It similarly disappeared on impact, its signals snuffed out, no longer detectable.

Another payload followed, this one a miniature relay station. At the moment it touched the Pyramid, it transmitted a spike of radiation and radio broadcast.

Asher smirked. They were still there, held in the field of the Pyramid. Visually undetectable, signals squelched, but still physically there.

How the Pyramid was accomplishing this feat was unimportant at the moment, though his mind flooded with fantasies of zero-point energy. The question that gave him pause was the what: What was the ship doing to the projectiles as they sat suspended in space in the periphery of its loathsome shape?

The conclusion we can draw from this is that the Pyramid is able to manipulate the zero-point field of the quantum vacuum such that once the projectiles enter the field its material properties no longer interact with the universe at large.

The Cosmogyre and the Kraken Mare

Further evidence for this can be seen after the Yang Liwei encounters the Darkness.

"The stars have gone out. The universe blackened: a shroud of nothingness drawn over Yang Liwei, its forty thousand sleeping passengers, its nine hundred crew, and maybe even the whole solar system. There is no way to know, because there is no way to see anything beyond the hull. The vacuum itself has become hostile to the propagation of light. Darkness surrounds them." - Cosmogyre III

Again, tangible evidence that the vacuum is being manipulated here. The crew also detect gravity waves as they are caught in the Darkness's influence.

Everything in the ship simultaneously compresses and stretches as the gravity wave deforms the space-time metric. "Is it the phantom?" Li demands, as her ship thrums subsonically. "Is that phantom ship emitting these waves?"

These same effects are witnessed during the syzygy on Titan at Kraken Mare

We are experiencing massive tidal forces of unknown origin. Our physics cluster detects mass growl, phaeton strikes, and sterile neutrino scattering. Possible origins include a compact dark matter object, a lambda-field influence, or a polarized gravity device.

It's at this point we start getting a clearer picture of exactly what is happening.

    Dark Energy and Repulsive Gravity

There a few things to pick apart here.

Phaetons are dark photons. Regular photons carry light between regular matter. So we can assume that phaetons carry packets of dark energy between dark matter.

Sterile neutrinos are inert neutrinos that interact only via gravity and do not interact via any of the fundamental interactions of the Standard Model. They are believed to be another form of Dark radiation emitted from dark matter.

Lambda-field influence is in reference to the ΛCDM ( Lambda-CDM or Lambda cold dark matter) model of the universe that postulates the universe contains more dark energy and dark matter than ordinary matter and that this is responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe.

Polarized gravity device which is a device that is capable of polarizing gravity like a magnet so that their exists both an attractive and a repulsive gravitational force.

And here is where we make the connection between this dark field of influence and the zero-point fields of the vacuum.

    The Cosmological constant

In 1915 a smart man named Albert Einstein came up with his theory of General relativity to explain gravitation as a consequence of the curvature of spacetime. This explained why massive objects like stars and black holes were able to act like lenses and curve light. It also explained the weird time dilation around strong gravitational fields.

Einstein believed the universe was static. In order to counterbalance the effects of gravity and achieve a static universe he added a constant to his math called the cosmological constant. In 1931 much to the chagrin of Einstein it was confirmed by Hubble that the universe was in fact expanding by observing the red shift.

Einstein abandoned the concept and most scientists assumed the constant to be equal to zero. This was until the surprising discovery in 1998 that universe wasn't just expanding but that the expansion of the universe is accelerating! The cosmological constant was back in vogue.

Since the 1990s, studies have shown that around 68% of the mass–energy density of the universe can be attributed to so-called dark energy. This mysterious dark energy produces a repulsive force that counterbalances the gravitational braking produced by the matter contained in the Universe

We now know that according to Quantum Field theory, the cosmological constant is the energy density of space, or vacuum energy, that arises in general relativity.

Thus Dark Energy is strongly associated with both the Zero-point Energy of the Void and gravity waves.

But I believe that the third darkness power is a specific kind of dark energy

    Phantom Energy

In 2008 some string theorists introduced the concept of a repulsive Phantom Energy, a kind of dark energy.

They found two types of stable solutions:

    • The child universe, which is isolated from the parent universe (essentially a universe inside a black hole)
    • A rogue universe, which is not isolated from the parent universe

This second kind of universe is troublesome, because as it begins to go through its inflation cycle, it does so by devouring the space-time of the parent universe. The parent universe is swept away as the rogue universe expands in its place.

Phantom energy would make the vacuum unstable with negative mass particles bursting into existence and would even rip apart the universe by making objects unable to interact with each other via fundamental forces, even within atoms.

So essentially this form of Dark Energy rather than making dark matter interactable like Void can instead rip apart the seams of ordinary matter.

    Quantum Red Shift

What would such an energy field hypothetically look like?

Since we know that dark energy is associated with zero-point fields and vacuum fluctuations we can get a fair idea of what both Void Light and Phantom energy would look like.

Atoms can be considered to have different energy levels that determine where electrons orbit and what we understand as "light" and "color" are the wavelengths emitted when electrons go from one orbit to a lower orbit.

The lowest orbit is the ground state or vacuum state and all the energy orbits of an atom are tied to the ground state of the atom. So changing the ground state affects all other energy states.

If you decrease the ground state orbit wavelength using Void then the wavelengths of light emitted from the atom blue shift towards the violet end of the spectrum.

But if you increase the ground state orbit wavelength, then the wavelengths of emitted light decrease, and red shift towards the red end of the spectrum. [Source]

So if Void looks blue-violet than we can assume that its opposite would appear to be red.

    Power over Corporeality.

So now I want to discuss potential places we may have already seen this dark phantom energy and how this energy might interact with the world if we ever gained it as a subclass. I believe that this ability will allow power over corporeality or rather what makes something material and tangible. I also believe that this power may have strong gravitationally repulsive effects.

    Nightmares

Perhaps the most obvious are the nightmares and specters the Pyramid of Luna manifests on the Moon. This are semi-corporeal beings that have in some cases greater strength than their material counterpart (thrall) and even exhibit brief moments of invincibility. They are also accompanied by a bright red aura and twisting dark veins.

I believe since the Pyramid of Luna is inactive that this represents its latent energy that allows it to manifest apparitions by interfering with the quantum vacuum within its field of influence. We even witnessed a red aura around the moon during Shadow Keep.

    Champions

Barrier champions produce a red bubble around them our regular weapons can't penetrate. Overload champions heal themselves and Unstoppable champions have great power. They are all shrouded in a crimson aura.

    Invaders

As soon as you step through that invasion portal you are shrouded in a red aura and gain for a brief time the ability to move unseen through enemies, see your enemies as red specters through walls using truesight and become harder to kill than your average guardian.

Again, I believe this may be the manifestation of dark energy allowing the us to tamper with our own corporeality making us harder to hit and also to be able to see the dark phaeton signature of guardians that passes straight through ordinary matter.

As the Drifter says, "Embrace the Darkness! This is what the Taken feel!". Speaking of those husks of sterile neutrinos.

    The Taken

The process is simple: an aperture opens, like a jaw, and swallows a living thing. It passes into — another place. Later, it returns. What returns is... I try to use the word 'shadow' but Eris hisses at me [...] insists that these Taken are more real, somehow. She uses words like inhabited, exalted, rendered final... [...] My Hidden tell me that the Taken shine with seething, negative light. As if the universe is curling up around them. As if they radiate some pathology that decays into our world as nothingness... The Taken serve Oryx. But I think those jaws lead elsewhere.

I believe that the Taken are the ultimate result of this dark energy once the Darkness has finished with them. They are sucked into the realm of the darkness and what comes back is a husk of sterile neutrinos. Even the Nine were able to manufacture them out of cold dark matter.

But what is interesting is that Sedia, Shuro Chi and Kalli appear to be partially Taken. And we are even able to bring them back. Interestingly they also have a noticeable red aura. This may be because the Awoken are weakly acausal and thus not fully taken. We may be witnessing the Darkness's grip on them.

Red Death, Crimson and Red Spectre

This is one connection I had actually made some time ago.

Both Red Death and it's successor Crimson are weapons banned from the Crucible. In practice they work kind of like Thorn but instead of damage over time they instantly heal on death of an enemy.

Vanguard policy urges Guardians to destroy this weapon on sight. It is a Guardian killer.

Only rumors tell of the mad Guardian who fashioned this butcher's tool. But its power is undeniable, and fear is a formidable weapon. - Red Death

According to official Vanguard policy, this weapon does not exist.

I need to be more self-sufficient in case we lose the Light again. So here's my answer. Here's the remedy. - Crimson

So Guardians started manufacturing knock offs.

Rumor has it that Red Death prototypes are circulating in the Crucible once again.

    - Red Spectre

Aunor mentions these weapons in association with the Darkness.

The Praxic Order has existed to keep Darkness and other banned assets out of the hands of City Guardians. Despite our best efforts, pieces like the Red Death, Crimson... and certain Weapons of Sorrow... continue to find their way into City arsenals. But even Guardian killers like those are nothing compared to the ideological threat of Gambit. Gambit leads to Darkness. -Message from Aunor II

They're not weapons of sorrow. Their not stasis weapons. So what are they?

    The Nine

Perhaps one of the most foreboding connections since we know that the Nine consist of literal filaments of darkmatter dust given consciousness by the gravitational effects of life in solar system.

At present, the Nine are divided into two factions. One faction, consisting of five members, seeks to study the Light and use it for their own purposes, and is responsible for sending Xûr and The Emissary to interact with the Guardians. (They were furious after we killed the Ahamkara and afterward focused on us due to our connection to the paracausal Light).

The other four seek to free themselves from their dependence on matter-based life and the Light, and to that end have experimented with creating their own realms through spacetime engineering and the creation of dark matter-based black holes, which would serve as gravitational foci independent from those provided by the realm of normal matter.

I strongly believe that like the other races in the Destiny universe, the Nine too have been promised Salvation. 5 still look to the Light but the other 4 may end up seeing this dark phantom energy as the key to their Salvation.

    ________________________________

    Thankyou for reading.

TL;DR: I believe that the third Darkness subclass will mirror Void Light and interact with the zero-point field of the quantum vacuum using dark phantom energy in order to "darken" matter rather than "lighten" it the way Void does. I believe we witnessed this in the Pyramids effect on Mars, Mercury, Titan and Io as well as the Yang Liwei and Kraken Mare. I also believe this effect has a red aura resulting from quantum red shift and it's effect has been seen in Nightmares, Gambit Invaders and even Red Death.

Since Prismatic Recaster is coming back, bring back Charged With Light mods for sale

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 05:04 PM PST

Title basically. I know many players who are waiting on mods like Radiant Light and several Warmind Cells mods, checking on Banshee every day. During Season of Arrivals there was a bottom row of several mods like Swift Charge, Supercharged and Radiant Light that you could purchase by ranking up the recaster.

I hope with the return of Drifter's talking trash can, players will be able obtain several of the mods they're missing at once, since Banshee only sells 2 a day.

From a Guardian, whose fireteam members lack these mods for nightfalls.
