Tip for Soloing Harbinger: Arbalest One-Shots all shields in the mission

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:54 AM PST

This weapon allows you to cover all shields without swapping weapons, as well as be decent for ranged damage. I highly recommend it, especially if you have slower load times and cannot swap mid-encounter.

    Harbinger Reservoir Map

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:11 PM PST

I was interested to see how all of the rooms in the reservoir fit together, so I spent way too much time making this map:

    https://imgur.com/4TWrwkB

This shows the locations of the emissaries and paracausal feathers, as well as areas that are blocked by doors or those annoying taken walls. Note that the taken doors marked in green can only be opened once the relevant emissary teleports away or is killed.

The optimal path would probably be to work your way down the main hallway killing everything until all the emissaries have teleported away, then go for the centurion first, captain second and wizard last, and then go back down the hallway to the boss room. The type of enemies you get in the boss room depends on the order you killed the emissaries, and it's best to get the centurions out of the way first if attempting this solo.

    Raid Sparrow Heated Seats

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 07:02 AM PST

    Hi,

Was talking with my raid team last week about the frostbite sparrow glitch being patched.

It made me think that the raid sparrow should have a perk called "Heated Seats" that mitigated the Frostbite effect somehow.

I was thinking allowing it to get up to Frostbite x12 or something.

I know a lot of people who have it wouldn't necessarily need it, but it would make the runs much more casual.

    That is all.

Fallen Saber is returning as a Strike in Season 13; the Fallen-themed Legendary HMG Baron’s Ambition should return too, as strike-specific loot.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:53 PM PST

Bungie recently confirmed that two Destiny 1 Strikes, Fallen Saber and Devils Lair, would be introduced to Destiny 2's Strike playlist in Season 13.

Bungie added that the Legendary HMG The Swarm would be returning as Strike-specific loot; it was an okay weapon. Also returning is the Palindrome, a Legendary Hand Cannon, and Shadow Price, a Legendary AR. None of these weapons are particularly special, and share a generic "Vanguard" design.

    The Swarm

Instead of generic Legendary weapons from D1 returning as Strike-specific loot in D2, why not add actually interesting weapons that already exist as Strike-specific loot in Destiny 1? An example.

Baron's Ambition was a Legendary HMG in Destiny 1. It only dropped from the Strikes Fallen Saber and The Shadow Thief. Beyond its unique Fallen design that immediately differentiates it from other weapons, it possessed decent perks and the ability to randomly roll its elemental damage type.

Adding Baron's Ambition to Destiny 2, either as Strike-specific loot exclusive to Fallen Strikes or the playlist as a whole, would help diversify the available HMG loot pool (currently only two can drop, Seventh Seraph and Europa) and create a loot incentive to pursue Fallen Strikes in the hope of grabbing the gun - and continue to grind for the chance of a god roll.

Other Destiny 1 weapons that should be re-introduced to Destiny 2's Strike playlist until a long-term solution is found include:

    Does Not Bow

    Grasp of Malok

    Stolen Will

Bungie, the cosmetics (ghost, sparrow, ship, emblem, etc.) for Prophecy was an awesome incentive for the solo flawless challenge. Please add these to other solo flawless activities.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:00 PM PST

After completing solo flawless Harbinger, I was yearning for a way to show it off in-game outside of a triumph. The model you set up with Prophecy was great, with small cosmetics tied to these individual triumphs. A little goes a long way, and I think it would prompt many more players to tackle these challenges.

The Inverted Spire was clearly not designed to be a GM Nightfall

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:45 PM PST

This post is not about the difficulty, but the ghost locations. In the Control Panel section and Boss Room, deaths in either will put your ghost in an inaccessible location.

In the Control Panel section, it places the ghosts above where the Unstoppable Champion spawns. If you die in the area immediately after the Launch from the control panel, your ghost is stuck at the control panel location.

If you die at any point in the boss room, with the exception of the final floor, your ghost becomes completely inaccessible.

While one could argue that without these glitches, this GM is "too easy," it's incredibly frustrating to be kicked out of the Nightfall because of some arbitrary ghost placement.

    Lightlevel means nothing, fight me

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:57 AM PST

The new Hawkmoon related quest made me realize that light level is made for one thing, and for one thing only. To ensure people have to play the game for more hours to reach content they want to play.

Ever wondered why all the best content is locked behind a high light level? That's right, to ensure you spend more hours on the game, grinding boring content. There is absolutely no reason for the new quest to have a high light level restriction, why not just make it similarly hard for everyone. The seasonal power cap grind is fucking terrible, and now later in the season they release some decent content, that is for some reason tied to grinding even more towards 1270 or 1280 even though its pretty evident they can make quests (like this) that are just harder than others, fucking why Bungo? I don't play to much anymore becuase this game is dying for me, after 6 years i've had it. I was excited for this mission, only to realize that its hard regardless of light level, why not implement that everywhere.

Give guardians the option of selecting a difficulty without needing a certain light level for it. I think it's mindboggling how they've tricked you all in thinking the lightlevel system is a good system.

I was faced with the unfortunate reality that this new quest does in some way still needs a decent LL. Too fucking bad, guess i won't do it then, or i would actually need to free some time and find a Fireteam. At the core this quest should have been difficult for all solo'ers regardless of LL, now it is difficult (great) but you still need an adequate LL (God fucking dammit).

So in conclusion: they made a hard quest which is awesome, finally. But,they have still partially locked it behind a LL I have zero interest in grinding for, especially if you want to solo this bad boy. I would implore you all to critically think of why there is a LL and if it's really necessary, or if it's just there to ensure people grind Destiny. Make quests that are harder or easier, or give them a difficulty selector, it ain't rocket-science.

The Dumbest Solo Flawless Prophecy Fail You Can Find On the Internet

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:19 AM PST

Iv not seen it posted yet but in harbinger you can choose the order of the enemies in the lake of shadows room by defeating the emissary’s in the particular order you want to face them in.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 07:00 AM PST

See title. Forgive me if it's already been posted iv not seen it yet.

I chose snipers and centurion first then captain and goblins second then finally I chose wizards and thrall last and it worked wonders solo. Took getting weaseled while struggling against the snipers with 2 unstoppable champs and starting again to realise.

Edit: By lake of shadows room I mean the survive room it's just the way I describe it.... Also an example if I kill the arc centurion first I'll get vandals and centurions first with no champ then the captain second il get goblins and the captains with 1 unstoppable and third the wizard il get thrall and wizards with 2 unstoppables,

The low FPS bug has started since launch of BL and it still not fixed.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 11:13 AM PST

The game is just not playable when your getting 20- 50fps. Before BL I got 90-120+fps. Read on the bungie forums people with 3090's and 6800XT's having the exact same issue and I'm using a 5700XT. I noticed I had very low CPU usage and the cores were not boosting. I want into the CVARS and turn on force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit and that fixed my frame rate issue and my CPU was fully boosting and using all the cores. Only issue is you get horrible shadow flicker with it turned on. I'm just tired of waiting in the dark for a fix.

    On - force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submithttps://imgur.com/6khJjZh

    Off - force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submithttps://imgur.com/eJ4YGaq

Edit: Someone posted in the Bungie forums seems the patch fixed nvidia cards but not amd.

Edit: Tried AMD driver 20.4.2 and it fixed the issue. I got all my frames back! Thank you Guardian harbringer1945!

Edit: Rolling back the driver only seems to work with RX5000 series, and does not help RX6000 series.

Anyone with RX5000 cards and getting low frames try rolling back to 20.4.2, hope this helps some other guardians too.

Really like what Bungie did with the Harbinger mission and how to acquire the Hawkmoon catalyst. Hope to see more like it in the future

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 05:56 PM PST

Although I found getting the gun in the first place incredibly boring outside of the excellent dialogue with the Crow and the new area inside the dam, the harbinger mission was exactly what I was hoping Bungie would do for more exotic catalysts: An extra and more difficult quest step that you do after getting the gun in order to get the catalyst. Getting random Hawkmoon rolls and an exotic ship was just icing on the cake. I think it would be cool to see this on future exotic quests if the quests themselves were made a little shorter to compensate. It would make up for the fact that exotic quests nowadays aren't very difficult and are just padded with busywork. You would get the exotic weapon without it's full potential and would have to do a more challenging task(possibly with the weapon) to unlock it. It would also be cool to see this formula applied to raid exotic weapons similarly to how Legend of Acrius' quest worked as a replacement for complete RNG raid exotics.

Harbinger 1m 30s completions, nutshell version for dev nerds.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 08:16 AM PST

This may or may not be of interest to people who play Destiny and are interested in software development. I'll post it and let you be the judge.

A lot of you probably noticed that if you complete the Harbinger mission you get the Triumph saying you completed it in 15 minutes no matter how long it took. You may also notice the emblem tracker thinks you completed the mission in 1 minute 30 seconds no matter how long it took.

Is there a relation between these two issues? Well, yes, probably. It is common to use millisecond time values in game development because you are often timing things well below second resolution but don't care enough to use higher resolution than milliseconds (most of the time).

    15 minutes is 900000 milliseconds.

    1 minute 30 seconds is 90000 milliseconds.

Pretty much the same value if you get rid of a couple of pesky zeros at the end!

This is a simplification, and speculation and this probably occurs in some gameplay scripts rather than in lower level code, but... these broken triumph and emblem tracker problems could come down to issues in just two lines of code:

    harbinger_mission.h

    #define SECONDS_IN_MINUTE 60 #define TRIUMPH_COMPLETION_TIME (15 * SECONDS_IN_MINUTE * 100) // <-- First Oopsie

    harbinger_mission.c

     #include <harbinger_mission.h> void endMission() { if (completionTimeInMs = TRIUMPH_COMPLETION_TIME) { // <-- Second Oopsie goodJobGuardianYouGetCoolTriumph() } }

First Oopsie: Supposed to multiply by 1000 to get milliseconds but missed a 0, so now TRIUMPH_COMPLETION_TIME is defined as 90000 (amount of milliseconds in 1.5 minutes) instead of 900000 (amount of milliseconds in 15 minutes)

Second Oopsie: Did assignment (single equal sign) when meaning to do comparison (double equal sign). So now completionTimeInMs gets assigned to the 1.5 minute millisecond value instead of compared against the desired fifteen minute value and we later apply this value to the emblem stat tracker. Because assignment always resolves to boolean true the contents of the if block are always executed and we have both just overwritten the real completion time with a fixed 1.5 minute value and incorrectly given out the fifteen minute triumph.

Oftentimes people who have been bitten by this assignment-instead-of-comparison issue in a bad way in the past begin to put the fixed value on the left side of the comparison even if it feels unnatural because the compiler can readily recognize when we did an oopsie if the left side of the operator is a fixed value and not a variable. But life is just a long series of lessons, until it bites you bad you tend not to get into this habit.

Its possible they also encoded the time as a float value in minutes with 1.5 encoded when they meant 15, but using float values for time like that is very uncommon in development in general because of problems with doing equality comparisons on variables that use IEEE 754 style encodings for floating point. So it seems much more likely to me they were working in milliseconds and missed a zero.

You may look at this and think "Geez, Bungie should find and fix bugs like this before release", but before you cast a stone remember that Destiny and the Tiger engine and the gameplay scripts that run everything have to be MILLIONS of lines of code with tons more code added each time there is a significant DLC.

There's a lot of space for bugs like this to hide in such a giant code base. The fact that the game runs as well as it does now is actually a huge triumph. The game industry road is littered with the corpses of would-be Destiny killers that shipped in much worse states than Destiny has ever been in.

Game development is hard. Game development during a pandemic is really hard. Enjoy your not-entirely-earned Triumph.

The slowed effect from Titan's Icefall Mantle should have only taken away your sprint, NOT jumping.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:24 PM PST

I don't get Bungie's thought process here with no running AND no jumping. No running I get, especially in PVP. You get an overshield that stays active as long as you're getting kills...very powerful.

I just tried them out in PVE and I'm thinking why would anyone use these? Ok, no running, I can take it or leave it. But it's not the no running that makes them so terrible, again, it's the no jumping that is the reason I'll never wear these again.

If you're doing strikes or something where there is a jumping part, and you just killed an enemy, say on Inverted Spire after the first (now defunct) load screen where you jump down to where the tank sometimes spawns, if you kill one of those enemies, you're screwed and you have to wait 20 seconds for the buff to stop de-buffing you (ummm...paradox???). Does Bungie realize HOW LONG 20 SECONDS IS IN A STRIKE???

It's just a stupid idea in PVE. You put an exotic in a game that takes away one of your core movements, but more important, a movement that is CLEARLY one of the most important things your character can do BASED ON THE WAY THE GAME IS STRUCTURED AT IT'S VERY CORE, with gaps that are over 100 feet wide or ledges you have to reach that are 50 feet above. The more I think about it the more it absolutely baffles me. Where was the meeting when someone with ANY SHRED OF COMMON SENSE said--Wait a minute, these are going to take your jump? That's not really a great idea in Destiny.

No running, fine. That's a good trade off--lose sprint, gain the overshield. And it's a great idea that the shield refreshes after kills, and the stasis blast to nearby enemies and all that, that's all fine. But no jumping absolutely ruins these. I would even stretch it to say I get no jumping in PVP. But what I really don't get is no jumping in PVE. It's almost laughable it's so stupid.

It's a good job Bungie. Another exotic that will go in the vault because it's useless.

Call me a simpleton but i just wish I could replay planets or campaigns and change the difficulty level

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 07:14 AM PST

Yes I'm talking about core campaigns but this could even include side quests as well. I don't want to build a new character just replay Forsaken or any other core content. I approach and play Destiny from a slight FPS/RPG perspective so the ability to replay campaigns at increasing difficulty level is part of the fun. Remember back in the day the fun of trying to run the Halo campaign on legendary? The level of tactic increased as did the level of gun play as you increased the difficulty level.

The other reason I want this is to improve the efficiency of gear dropping: the higher the difficulty gets the better the gear you earn gets. Heck tie the gear to completing a given campaign on a certain difficulty level.

This would allow new light players to slowly improve AND allow veteran players to not feel like they are running through a new campaign like wet paper. Are you 1060 power play on normal mode and you get blues and few purples. Are you 1310 then play on legendary and get purples only.

When one plays an RPG game, think old school, you would run the same character through the whole game increasing difficulty level until you got EVERYTHING you wanted. And it made the game replay-able because you could increase the challenge the game presented.

Lastly the higher the difficulty the more EXP you would gain. Thus allowing one to keep working their main without feeling like they are playing the same easy activity 100 times trying to find that perfect roll on a gun or armor. Additionally, let's say you find killing the bosses In forsaken really, heaven forbid, fun, increase the difficulty and run it!

Maybe I'm thinking about this too simply but sheesh it seems like such an EASY dev adjustment and keeps current content (all of it) relevant.

Ok one more thing: let's say you have a fav gun that is getting sunset Bungie could tie the replacement of that gun to "new" uncapped version to a specific campaign/quest/activity set on a certain difficulty level.

    Am I stupid?

I really want those god damn luxe hunter grips and the omega mechanos cloak. And I'll pay a tenner for those two but £18 or whatever 2k silver costs is insane pricing. Idk what effect this would have on bungies financial situation tho.
