It's about time we fire up the spotlight and focus it on another interesting individual in the Destiny community. This week, we have a biomedical engineer who is now a full-time content creator, Hand Cannon lover, and authority on breakfast cereals.

    Please meet illPhysics.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what first got you into gaming? What inspired your callsign?

illPhysics: Hello everyone. My name is illPhysics aka Tony and it's a privilege to be featured. I am a full-time content creator, mainly for Destiny 2. I'm also a biomedical engineer by trade for over a decade.

We didn't have the money for gaming systems growing up, so the first games I played were on an original Nintendo that my best friend in middle school handed down to me. I've played through Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 more times than I'd like to admit! After college, I got into the Call of Duty franchise, specifically World at War (MP40 go brrrrr!) and played various sequels until my brother introduced me to Destiny in 2015.

What keeps me coming back to gaming is the reward from progressive improvement and being able to overcome challenges in gameplay. This is why the multitude of viable subclasses, weapons, and playstyles in Destiny's PvP has me hooked. If there is a skill ceiling, I have yet to approach it, and that means there is always something new to master. I'm addicted to success in endgame PvP through hard work, perseverance, and playing with intention. My life is built around the pursuit of excellence in all that I do. For better or worse, all I know is 0 or 100.

"illPhysics" was inspired by my love of Destiny's unique movement mechanics and my desire to master them on all classes. I also love physics! One of my favorite podcasts is Star Talk featuring astrophysicist and science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson. I credit how I think, communicate, and tackle life's challenges to my heavy background in math and science.

It's hard not to love the physics of Destiny's movement mechanics. Tell us about your Destiny roots and why you decided to become more involved in the community?

illPhysics: My brother introduced me to Destiny in 2015 so that we would have something to play together, as I was living in a different state at the time. Taken King was peak Destiny for me, and while the PvE was captivating in its own right, it is Destiny's one-of-a-kind PvP experience that has kept me playing nonstop since.

I'll preface this by saying that the Destiny 2 community is the best gaming community I've ever been a part of. In 2016, my journey in community building started with the founding of my clan of still-close gaming friends, Phantoms7. With the launch of Destiny 2 on PC, I began streaming and started building a wider community through my Twitch channel and Discord server. I have always been passionate about writing and began to find a home on Twitter as a natural avenue for engaging with my Twitch community off-stream.

I have always had things I thought worthwhile to say, from detailed Destiny 2 gameplay feedback to wider commentary on social issues, as well as messages of inspiration, empowerment, and personal growth. Further, encouraging healthy discourse surrounding these conversations is paramount. When I realized there were people in the Destiny community who also valued what I had to say (and are awesome people in their own right who I learn from every day!), that's when I decided to more actively contribute.

Along the way, I have made many incredible friends. I'm grateful that the community I've built over the last five years continues to grow and thrive each day. My recent Twitch partnership serves as proof that an unshakable focus on forging quality connections through organic community-building can yield success. I want to reinforce that there is a lane in this industry for growth by focusing on what naturally comes to us as humans: Cultivating authentic connections and community.

Very well said, glad to see you are finding success! What has been your favorite weapons to use this Season? Favorite Exotic? Favorite subclass?

illPhysics: First, I've been a PvP main for almost five years now and the multiplayer experience in Destiny 2 is unlike any other, while also being one of the best shooter experiences available. In particular, the fantastic movement (not to mention class design and gunplay) stand out among a crowded genre. No matter the criticisms, the caliber of the gameplay experience in PvP is undoubtedly top-tier and has stood the test of time.

Hand Cannons. They were literally the only reason I swapped from PS4 to PC on launch. They simply weren't viable in the PvP sandbox on console at that time. Hand Cannon mastery will always be at the top of my PvP to-do list. My entire style of gameplay is laser-focused on getting as many Hand Cannon defeats in a game as possible with the highest precision kill accuracy I can attain. Honestly, I never thought of it like that before literally this moment, haha.

Hawkmoon. It's a fresh take on an old classic and is undoubtedly my favorite Exotic this Season, weapon or otherwise. If you see me using it on stream, you will literally hear me yell "Ca-Caaaaw!" Every. Single. Game.

An incredible job by the team who designed and reworked Hawkmoon. Now I just need the Moonglow ornament back from Destiny 1 (hint hint).

Top-tree Dawnblade (Attunement of Sky). It is hands down my absolute favorite subclass to play in PvP, and unless we get Twilight Garrison back (hint hint), I cannot see another topping it. Destiny's unique class/subclass movement is the element I love most about this franchise. Icarus Dash not only has a fairly high skill ceiling and will keep anyone entertained while working to master it, but Shotguns on that subclass is pure adrenaline.

I rotate between all three classes and a variety of subclasses periodically, but I played Attunement of Sky for four months straight when the double Icarus Dash changes were implemented. It's an absolutely beautiful subclass, and my personal thanks to the team who worked on it.

    (This is the premiere!)

    Video Link

I don't Warlock, but have to admire how y'all fly around like fighter jets. Tell us about what kind of content we can see on your channel. Favorite Crucible playlist and map?

IllPhysics: Improvement-focused PvP with a splash assortment of PvE activities: Primarily raids with viewers or challenging high-Power Level activities like Grandmaster Nightfalls. If I was to sum up my gameplay, it's a focus on mastery of every class' movement (showing style and substance), well-practiced gunplay (On a good day, the Hand Cannon shot don't miss!), and lighthearted banter.

On Sunday afternoons in particular, I have what I call Community Customs where I spectate community members (via Discord streaming) who wish to improve in PvP. Sharing detailed, constructive feedback on individual and team play while ensuring I commend noteworthy or creative gameplay. (My community playfully jabs at me and my notepad while I watch!) I have played with and against most of the best PvP players in Destiny. Sharing my years of experience playing PvP at a fairly high level is one of the ways I try to give back to the community. There are a lot of folks who don't have access to the type of patient, non-judgmental, and empowering atmosphere I try to cultivate in my Community Customs.

Oh, I also do cereal reviews, haha.

Otherwise, my channel is a space where we listen (first) and speak on any life subject without succumbing to tribalism, bullying, or personal attacks. I continue to work hard to ensure it is inclusive and respectful of our differences, while also highlighting the ways in which we share common ground. I am deeply invested in advocating for marginalized communities, and it is important to me that I use my platform to do so in a meaningful manner.

One of my favorite quotes is by Leigh Alexander who said, "When you decline to create or to curate a culture in your spaces, you're responsible for what spawns in the vacuum." Leadership sets the tone and I always want to set an example of authenticity, acceptance, humility, support and intellectual curiosity.

[I play a lot of] Trials of Osiris. There is nothing like it in any shooter by a mile, and while it has its issues leading me to take an extended break at times, it remains the playlist I most enjoy. I am optimistic for its future and wish it to always remain as a core, end-game activity in the Destiny franchise.

[My favorite map is] Javelin. It is relatively symmetrical. It is the perfect close-to-mid range map that promotes a balance between Primary and Special weapon play. It has dedicated lanes while also providing plenty of cover, elevated platforms, close quarters/choke points. There are detailed, yet clean map features with limited environmental features that impede movement/verticality, multiple routes for rotations, and good spawn protection elements. It seems very polished.

Listen... Grape-Nuts are a fine cereal you just need to add like three cups of sugar to the bowl. I digress, do you have a favorite moment from playing Destiny in the past?

IllPhysics: First [Trials of Osiris] flawless card in 2016. It took weeks to finally make it to the Lighthouse, and I played with the same two people from LFG who had never been flawless either. I was still relatively new to PvP and we failed for weeks but got closer each time. The final win on the map Blind Watch and subsequent Lighthouse visit was literally a perfect moment in time. One that will forever live on in my memory and those of the people I still call friends to this day. An extremely rewarding experience and a primary reason why this playlist will forever remain special to me.

Where all can we find you on the internet?

IllPhysics: Here, you can find all the spaces I call home:

Anything else you would like to add before we let you go?

IllPhysics: Shout out to my Destiny clan and close gaming friends, Phantoms7. They have held me down through thick and thin in this community since 2016 and I wouldn't be where I am without their support and friendship.

Finally, it's Women's History Month and I want to give a shout out to all the incredible women in my life. In particular, a shout out to Black women whose success and grind through uniquely perpetual adversity serves as an inspiration and blueprint for me – not just in my career, but in my life. I greatly appreciate you all.

    Keep going.

Big thanks to illPhysics for carving out some time to spend with us and share his story. Make sure you stop by his channel and say hi.

We have more Community Focus articles planned! This one went out a week later than we originally wanted, but we appreciate illPhysics for patiently working with us to get this out! We're excited to be featuring awesome women from our community for the next three weeks of Women's History Month. We already have a pick for next week, but if you know someone you think should be featured, let me and Dmg know on Twitter or our forums.

I will never EVER get tired of the FEEL of Destiny’s weaponry. Props to Bungie’s art, writing, and game design for their execution in giving each exotic a storied past. They’re so poetic.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:11 PM PST

Bungie is SO good at making the feel of weapons prominent.

Sunshot itself feels like I'm firing a cardboard box of a gun, but an awesome one at that. Each bullet a flashing meteor unto its targets.

Dead Man's Tale (I have NOT put this thing down) feels light and polished and broken into from well-oiled use. Its background as a reliable weapon fit for any rifleman gives it weight, especially with its original owner's dark past.

Thorn feels heavy on the firing end, the weight of its recoil going up and down like the hammer of death that it is. Fear the sound of its abyssal bloom across the map.

The gears in Le Monarque turn with every effortless draw of its string, each arrow leaving its frame with a hardened and venomous sting.

You count the Ace of Spades's shots. Six bullets that'll never fail you until they run out. Memento Mori, Guardian.

I can go on and on and on and I'll probably be stuck here writing all day and night, but if there's one thing that true, it's this: every single exotic weapon Bungie has put out has an amazing sense of history behind each one, and all you gotta do is reload, aim, and fire to be a part of them.

Edit: wow, I've never had a Reddit post take off this much before. Thank you all for the fun discussions and rewards! What was a musing appreciation for Dead Man's Tale's "feel" and casual creative writing/free-write package turned into a fun conversation with people!

Why can a Titan using Banner Shield get frozen while blocking? The whole function is to guard and protect teammates.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 08:18 PM PST

I know bubble is better anyway, but I like explosions and I like being able to help the protect and buff the team while moving. The fact that a warlock can press L1 or a hunter can press it twice and negate the whole function of a titan subclass is unbelievably dumb.

Never gonna happen, but a crucible mode with no darkness subclasses allowed would be pretty baller

Titan main here to say that Chaos Reach is not unfair or cheesy in pvp in any way, and I will die on this hill

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 06:37 AM PST

The Chaos Reach subclass has been unchanged for over a year and a half and the only reason it's "meta" now is because Stasis slows the game down to a screeching halt and the toolkit of Chaos Reach combined with Geomags and max intellect makes stalling for super in Trials a good strategy. Also canceling mid super saves super energy. So the whole subclass is basically playing for super. This is a problem with the game mode Trails and Stasis, not with Chaos Reach.

Yes I'll say it again, all it is is a consistent super that isn't roaming, which is normally A BAD THING in pvp but roaming supers (and Missile Titan for whatever reason) are inexplicably hard countered by Stasis.

Light subclasses on Titans and Hunters have no such similar super or toolkit to counter Stasis so it only seems on first glance that Chaos Reach is somehow OP when really it isn't at all.

Stop complaining about having to actually play the game in order to reap the rewards.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 01:39 PM PST

Seriously, I've never seen so much complaining from one subreddit about having to actually play a game in order to feel validated by the rewards it offers for putting time into it.

You don't want to play Gambit? Fine, then don't. Nobody is forcing you to do it, and there are still seven weeks left in the Season. Five Infamy Ranks doesn't take that long, and you were going to have to earn those Ranks regardless if you started at the high-end or at the low-end.

You don't want to play Trials of Osiris? Fine, then don't. You don't want to do a Grandmaster Nightfall? Fine, then don't. You don't want to play Iron Banner during a potential Stasis-fest? Fine, then don't.

Nothing is forcing you to do ANYTHING in this game, and it's so annoying to see so many people act like Bungie is holding them hostage for playing their game and all the aspects of it.

I miss the magic that was the Zhalo Supercell in D1

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:11 PM PST

I don't know how many people used this exotic in D1, I never paid any attention to meta loadouts, but the feeling of just Palpatineing an entire room of adds with almost no reloads was glorious, and then it got replaced with riskrunner and it just doesn't feel the same. All I want for Christmas is my Zhalo Supercell bungie...

Shattered throne and PoH should be farmable like prophecy is

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:10 AM PST

TLDR: Reissuing the dreaming city weapons and armor is cool and all, but with how tedious all methods of getting them are, the dungeons should be farmable, similar to how prophecy is.

On today's list of non important but nice to see changes to Destiny, I would like to bring up dungeons being able to be replayed infinitely through out the week.

This season the dreaming city gear was reissued and the weapons were introduced with different and new perks which is fine with me as they are cool and fun guns. What is slightly annoying is that shattered throne wasn't made farmable like prophecy is, and with how tedious it is to get the gear from other methods, it'd be a nice change to see.

None of the weapons are game breaking by and sense of the matter so I really see no reason that it wouldn't make sense to do so.

Anyway, that's just my "non important, but nice to see change", I understand there are many many things that should have priority before this.

The "in it for the infamy" weekly challenge should have been closer to the start of the season, or it should have been retroactive.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:48 AM PST

The reason for this is that each time you earn a major rank up, the amount of infamy it takes to reach the next major rank increases.

So let's say you're halfway up the infamy ladder when this weekly challenge became available. You have to grind for much longer than someone who is at 0 infamy would, because your rank ups require more infamy. You've already put in the work to climb halfway up the infamy ladder, but you are not rewarded for it because this weekly challenge is not retroactive.

Clearly, not much thought was put into this weekly challenge.

It really blows that all strike specific weapons are sunset

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 05:16 PM PST

There's not a lot of them left mind you, but it really sucks that horror's least, long goodbye, warden's law, mindbender, and militia's birthright are all sunset and were not revamped with the sunsetting of sunsetting. And while they and the vaulted sunset weapons weren't godly by any means (in most cases) it was nice to actually have specific weapons tied to the strikes, giving people a reason to want to farm harder/more time consuming strikes if the weapon in question was worth it (like D.F.A and mindbender).

*side note, please note that i am referring to weapons that are only dropped by one strike, Shadowprice, Swarm, and palindrome are on a timed rotation and are not locked to one specific strike and therefore are not under the umbrella of strike specific weapons as they are simply dropped via the nightfall regardless of strike*

Honestly Bungie? The recent introductions to the Cabal's story has made me more interested in the Cabal story more than I ever have been.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 11:50 AM PST

Seriously. Whether it is the way Caiatl and Osiris talk to each other when the Guardian is aboard the Glykon, or with a recent tweet made by bungie that confirms she did not send that psion to kill Zavala. I know I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but the amount of quality storytelling this season is just incredible. Great job with this one bungie.

[Gambit] Why does it feel like I only ever die to Scorn?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 02:35 PM PST

Seriously, it feels like they're 50 power levels higher than any other enemy type. At 1310 power, I'm usually playing a Reaper role (does anyone else miss the Gambit armor perks? I do...) and have no problem clearing parts of the map with my neutral game (bottom tree Sunbreaker).

But whenever we're up against Scorn, I find myself taking huge bursts of damage out of nowhere and suddenly I'm dead.

Am I just fighting them wrong? Or is there something else here I'm not noticing. Is there a chance they are literally higher power level as they were the flagship enemy type of Forsaken, when Gambit came out?

Please revert the reactive pulse nerf!

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:36 AM PST

For anyone unaware: In season of the chosen reactive pulse has been nerfed to death and that's no exaggeration. The primary effect of the mod is at best a neat visual effects now bc it basically does no damage at all anymore. I haven't seen this in any know issues list so I'd assume it's not a bug. Reactive pulse used to be one of the best CwL mods that you could just always add to pretty much any build and greatly enhance it. A lot of CwL mod require a specific build or playstyle but Reactive pulse could work with pretty much anything. Add to that that the fact that it used to count as arc Grenade damage opened up some amazing build potential. Please at least make it do the damage it did before I can see why it would no longer count as grenade damage bc that allowed for some really good build synergy but the damage should really be reinstated.

    Also, buff EoT!

Hot Take: I think Champions are a really cool addition to the game. But could be improved upon.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 02:13 PM PST

I really like the idea of coordinating with teammates to stagger a powerful enemy.

However, I will say that the Fallen Champions are REALLY annoying to deal with. Why can a Barrier Servitor make surrounding Fallen immune?

I'm not saying Bungie should nerf Champions to make them easier to deal with, but improve the mods that are used to stagger them, mainly Overload rounds. As of Season 13, Overload SMGs are very inconsistent compared to an Overload Bow. Instead of making us fire almost the ENTIRE MAG, let us fire fewer bullets to stagger them. Also, make Anti-Barrier weapons do more damage to the enemies affected by the Barrier Servitors' "immune" beam. It's already annoying to shoot a barrier, but having everything immune to damage is kind of annoying.

Other than that, I really like the concepts of Champions.

Don't let the sorry state of Precision ARs distract you from just how terrible *all* Fusion rifle archetypes are

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 04:11 AM PST

I took the new gambit Fusion for a spin in the Crucible and it's just absolutely ridiculous. They're very inconsistent, they will often leave enemies at 1hp and they can't outrange something like Felwinter's which doesn't even have a charge up time.

In PvE they're just as bad. Yes they handle decent for crowd control since they pierce enemies but have terrible damage against tougher enemies.

I really hope the next meta is centered around Fusions, they really need some spotlight.

Stasis slows in PvP should only take away my character's movement speed, it should not affect my mouse sensitivity.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 08:01 AM PST

I'm okay with slows making my character a sitting duck by removing my ability to strafe and move my character to a different position. What I'm not okay with, is how slows affect how fast my character turns/aims. Changing my dpi/ mouse sensitivity/whatever the right word for it is during a fight does not feel good. It takes away my ability to fight back and even if I manage win the fight and get the last shot in on the guy who froze me, I did not have fun in that fight. Making my character stand still is a big enough advantage anyways, my head is barely moving while your character is moving all over the place which means you can get headshots on me a whole lot easier than I can on you. Please change this for all slows in PvP Bungie, thank you.

I wish there was a "Welcome back, here's what you missed" experience for lapsed Guardians who want to come back to the game and get right back to Endgame shape.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:40 AM PST

I don't know about anyone else, but with VOG coming back, I have a bunch of friends excited to come back but scared because they feel a big grind is ahead of them to get ready. Also they all feel they've missed so much. I wish there was some sort of catch up other than me that could give Guardians who haven't played in a year (or more) that would give them one big, max light reward that they can anchor their grinding around and get ready to come back. Imagine coming back, doing a "Welcome back" mission, getting a 1300 drop (from 1100 where they'll theoretically be at) and give them a huge boost to leveling in time for VOG.

....I just want my friends back!

We should be able to gild Raid titles by doing a flawless run.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 04:47 AM PST

Title. It would be a nice extra step to add back the prestige of flawless. Keep the shader reward and add a gilded version of the respective raid title if you complete it. It could reset every so often as well. Every season would be too much I think, but I feel like each year is a sort of a happy medium.

    Coup de Grâce

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:23 PM PST

The absolute best part of Season of the Hunt was being able to cycle Wrathborn Hunts to play the Coup de Grâce hunt and get a Pinnacle you actually need. You knew what piece of gear your Pinnacle was going to be and it was so freaking pleasant.

This season I'm playing for pinnacle after pinnacle looking for that one specific piece of gear, playing things I don't want to play, only to get another energy weapon or whatever other piece I don't need. It's not fun. Especially when it just keeps on happening.

Even if the Coup de Grâce wasn't offering what I needed at that exact moment, I could keep playing the activity until it cycled to the one thing I did need. Could we please please bring that back or something similar? Just one chance a week to, without a doubt, actually get the piece of gear I want. Please?

Let there be a cooldown on how many times Guardians can get stasis frozen and slowed.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 05:51 PM PST

Basically title. At least five or ten seconds after getting frozen, but no cooldown after getting slowed. Attacks would still do damage, like penumbral blast would do its 80 damage, titan punch would still beat you into the opposing wall and OHK you and the hunter shuriken would do 90 damage, but not apply their respective freezes or slows. Grenades would also do their damage, not sure on numbers but you get the idea. This would balance PVP just a little bit, but not mess with PVE that much because stasis spam only happens in the campaign and is still not that much.

Title. If my team wins a Gambit/Crucible match or completes a NF/strike and I have the activity's respective prosperity ghost mod ("Wins have a chance to drop an additional piece of Legendary gear"), I should not get 3 blues instead.

Honestly, I would be happy if the mod just prevented getting blues while equipped. But it hurts when a Gambit match ends in a "W" and your post-match rewards are 3 blue class items.

Bungie, I know you've heard this a lot this season, but seriously. The way the Story of this Season has been told thus far feels like a final evolution of Destiny's storytelling. Everything from lore, main story, quest design and VA intertwines to make it perfect.

Up untill now, Destiny has always been a mishmesh of different parts of it telling different stories. The lore would go in deep but not everyone would read it. Everyone WOULD experience the main story but it was not nearly as cohesive or interesting as the lore. Quest desgin would often have nothing to do with plot bar a slightly related tangent. VA and character interactions was always good from a technical perspective, but it took time to nail characters and some were left by the wayside outside of lore. (COUGH IKORA UNTILL NEXT SEASON/WITCH QUEEN COUGH)

But for once in Destiny's timeline, this time everything works together to enrich the other.

The lore is intertwined into the main story quest, huamnzing the Cabal and their plight while keeping them alien. The main story in game is empowered by this, making what would otherwise be a "kill Cabal on battles" event actualy feel like a moral quandry.

The in game quest design ties into everything this season, for example in Caiatl helping us with the exotic quest while she searches for Calus, or in WHY we are doing Battlegrounds in order to deny Caiatl her War Council.
The Voice Acting, as well as the lore, ties in together AGAIN, making use of characters who we do not often see like Saladin, while also showing us a truly scary paralel between Saladin and a former Cabal leader that we may need to act on, and the hate in Saladin's voice for all Cabal shows in the voicework.

The HELM also gives us a good staging ground FOR such interactions between characters, humanzing them in ways merely being voice acted do not. It allows foir more character TO character interaction, something we lacked before this point. since it would just be them doing so with us.

For once, everything works together rather then apart. More of this. PLEASE.
