The arc subclasses are in dire need of a rework, like we got for solar in season 9

    Posted: 15 May 2021 02:25 PM PDT

Title. Aside from middle arc on both Warlock and Titan, all arc subclass branches currently range from useless to mediocre.

As a hunter main, there is no reason for me to ever use Arcstrider unless I need arc/super kills. Top tree was the closest Hunter had to an ad clear subclass branch, but now it's utterly outdone by revenant. And since all its perks are 'on-kill', it has no use in high level content. Middle tree is a mishmash of unrelated, unsynergistic perks. Its main draw, the spin, drains far too much super energy for what little benefit you get in pve. (also it's the only forsaken tree that didn't include a new super, cmon) I say pve, because the rest of that tree's perks seem to be pve-oriented. Bottom tree has nothing going for it in pve, however is a semi-competent pvp tree, although nothing special.

And then we get to the super itself, Arc Staff. In my opinion, it's the second-worst roaming super in the game, after Nova Warp. It and Spectral Blades are the only true 'melee range' supers, however unlike spectral, staff has no upside to make up for that. It has a short duration (without Raiden Flux), poor single-target damage, and average damage resistance. In pvp, Warlocks and Titans can just float up and away from you, and there isn't much you can do other than hope you get lucky with the melee lockon.

Since 80% of my playtime is on Hunter, I don't feel I can give a writeup on Stormcaller or Striker, but even I know top and bottom Stormcaller are meme-tier, and I don't remember the last time I saw any Titan running top or bottom Striker.

If Ada-1 is going to carry the same upgrade materials Banshee does, can she at least sell them for different planetary materials?

    Posted: 15 May 2021 02:20 PM PDT

I genuinely don't see the point to giving her Upgrade Modules, Prisms, and Ascendant Shards if they're all the exact same cost. If she were to sell them for different materials, it would be beneficial to players who may want to spend different materials that day.

EDIT 2: Crunching down the edit as it was way too long and the culprits appear to have given up. But seriously, this place is whack.

Why does the Season pass spend 5 reward levels giving you a masterwork bonus to Season Pass Armor when there is no Season pass Armor?

    Posted: 15 May 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Either this bonus is gifted to Season armor not from the pass, or its a holdover from when Armor WAS in the pass and is now completely pointless.

The season pass not having (high stat) seasonal armour really hurts it’s value imo.

    Posted: 15 May 2021 08:39 AM PDT

I came back to the game with season of the chosen and it was really great to have a decent set of armour to catch me up a bit. I was looking forward to getting another set from this season pass to make a set for another element, the armour was a great boon to more casual players (like me). When I heard they'd taken armour out of the pass I was disappointed but thought I'd wait to see what they replaced it with before complaining about it. We got some shards/prisms and a couple of extra engrams, nothing special, nothing you can't get easily and consistently, nothing that's going to last you like a set of high stat armour will. Now I am very disappointed, this season pass has a lot less value in it than the last one, especially for casual players. The only way to get a decent set of seasonal armour now is to play the ever living hell out of override- and even then you're not guaranteed anything. Been playing that mode every time I've had the keys to do so and gotten nothing but trash, doesn't help that it's brain dead easy and boring. Even when focusing every one of the umbral engrams I've gotten this far (20+ on top of the inventory full I had saved in anticipation) I've gotten nothing but trash. But hey here's a few shards. Really disappointing, especially when they've added a bunch of stuff to the eververse that could have easily been put in the pass to make up for the armour loss.

For the people who will inevitably say I'm just hating, this season is off to a decent start story/lore wise. But with how they've butchered what should have been a simple transmog system, gave us a 6 player activity with less enemies/challenge in it than last season's 3 player activity and knocked the armour value off the pass the season is not feeling great to play so far and people have every right to complain.

Bungie, be honest with us. Was override originally a 3 man activity?

    Posted: 15 May 2021 03:56 PM PDT

The one (and arguably only) great thing battlegrounds had going for it was it's enemy density. Override on the other hand feels like it has even less density than some strikes.

This might be due to the objective based nature of the activity but everything from the number of ads to the cramped level design itself really screams "3 man activity."

I'm no game dev but the things that seem a little too difficult for a team of 3 casuals like the boss' health are things that can be tuned without changing the overall activity design.

I would have much preferred if override were a 3 man because it would cut down on the lag and I'm so sick and tired of fighting to play the game, I just wanna shoot enemies.

We need Drifter specific lines for individuals who are not playing the game correctly in Gambit

    Posted: 15 May 2021 04:05 PM PDT

I'm sure a multitude of people know the issues of blueberries refusing to bank motes or invading and dying immediately, so I say we need new lines that Drifter can say to those individuals or emphasize it to the entire team.

For example, if a player has enough to bank for a primeval but they don't and die, you could get "you've completely sunk your team, congrats rookie." If they invade with no knowledge beforehand, perhaps "someone doesn't know how to shoot a gun"

We already have some in game, but it'd be a nice touch to get under someone's skin to play the game correctly!

Cosmodrome repeatable bounties are ridiculously easy and give 4k XP each, unboosted

    Posted: 15 May 2021 06:31 AM PDT

Looks like that's the next level in bounty XP grinding, they all consist of extremely easy and short objectives like kinetic / energy / heavy weapon kills, ability kills and enemy kills. Goodbye Moon, hello Cosmodrome

EDIT: For clarification, all repeatable bounties give 4k XP; the reason people used to farm Moon repeatable bounties is because they were easy to do in a single Lost Sector run, but Cosmodrome is even faster and easier.

How would you like to exit your Star-Eater Scales super with 50% energy towards your next super? And get full supers in 90 seconds? Elemental Well/Charged With Light Build Inside!

    Posted: 15 May 2021 12:21 PM PDT

Now that I've got your attention, here's footage as promised.

And here's a little more. (Granted this one is assisted a bit by some orbs, but thankfully Star Eater helps with that too!)

I've finally graduated from the school of "Taking Charge/High Energy Fire occasionally paired with Powerful Friends" for mods, and if you're willing to take that leap of faith with me too, you'd be surprised with how robust this game can really support some in-depth builds.

Now then, how does this all work? Well there's a brief TL;DR at the bottom, but for details, consult below!

    The Build

The first thing here is that you're gonna want to be Bottom Tree Nightstalker. Now this may be obvious in terms of the super damage, but the main component here is your double duration grenades.

In the following order, I have these mods on my armor

    • Helmet - Ashes To Asset + Ashes to Asset + Elemental Charge (Ashes to Asset is from the artifact for 1 power, and Elemental Charge comes from the War Table)

    • Arms - Supercharged (Solar Ada-1 CWL Mod)

    • Chest - Elemental Ordnance (War Table Elemental Well Mod)

    • Legs - Star Eater Scales + Font of Wisdom (War Table Elemental Well Mod. Technically you don't need Star Eater, but they benefit the most from this)

    • Class Item - Energy Converter (Void Ada-1 CWL Mod)

Of course feel free to rearrange this as needed, as there are only 2 mods that are exclusive to certain elements.

There is wiggle room to adjust or swap out certain mods for other similar effects (such as Elemental Charge with simply Taking Charge), but in my opinion, those just tend to complicate things, and this build keeps things nice and compact with just using your grenade.

    How it works

So, you're on Bottom Tree Nightstalker? Got those double duration grenades? Good. Go get a kill with them. Toss that grenade into the crowd. Two things will happen:

    • You will instantly gain significantly more super energy from any kills you get.

    • The first kill you get will spawn an Elemental Well.

      • Now, thanks to the double duration grenades, if they stick around for long enough, then they can usually nab a second kill towards the end of their life. This is important because there's a cooldown on spawning wells with your grenades, but this one can outlast that cooldown, usually making you able to get two elemental wells.
      • If this is inconsistent for you, feel free to swap out Elemental Ordnance with any other "spawn well" mod of your choosing so long as it matches your subclass. The important thing is spawning 2 wells.

Now then, you got your wells. What happens? Well when you pick it up, three more things happen:

    • For each well you pick up, you will gain grenade energy back.

    • For each well you pick up, you will be granted two charges of light.

    • For each well you pick up, you will be granted a 30 second timer of max intellect.

This helps get your abilities back, it boosts your super regen rate, and most importantly it charges you with light. If all things are right, you should be Charged With Light x4 now.

Now here's where it gets fun.

Using the Nightstalker subclass (smoke bombs grant grenade energy), and the wells you gained (picking up a well grants ability energy), work your way to your next grenade. Feel free to have a demolitionist weapon as well.

When you throw your next grenade, granted you have 4 charges of light and are below 50% super energy (which you probably will be), using it will instantaneously gain 25% super on the spot.

Energy Converter has never seen widespread usage because of the confusing text, but let me break it down for you. While your super bar is under 50%, this mod will work, and charge your super to a max of 50%. After that, the mod will functionally turn off.

Don't worry, that's why we have Font Of Wisdom and Ashes to Asset, but that's also good because it will no longer consumer our charges of light whenever we use a grenade. Meaning you can freely use as many grenades as you want to get back to Charged with Light x4, and when you exit your next boss-slaying super, you can just toss that grenade right when you end and start off with 25% progress. Add in the boosted energy you get from grenade kills, and the boosted energy you get from picking up wells, and maybe an orb or two laying around, and you'll quickly find yourself back to half in no time.

    Adjustments

There are several ways to adjust this build to fit your playstyle best. You can change Elemental Charge with simply Taking Charge (picking up orbs charges you with light), but this requires you to get 4 charges of light before using your grenade. I find this a bit difficult, since Elemental Charge grants 2 per well, but if you're an orb making machine then by all means feel free to pick this one.

You can also swap out Elemental Ordnance with a new Elemental Well mod this season, called Reaping Wellmaker. This makes it so every time you use your class ability, your next weapon kill gives you a void well. This is great for Nightstalker, but limits you to that class. It's a perfectly viable 2nd option though if you have high mobility. Simply dodge, weapon kill, then it spawns the well. Get 2 wells and you'll be at max charges of light.

The only mods I strongly recommend keeping is Supercharged, as the amount of super energy you gain from only 2 charges of light is pretty small (only 8%?). When you get to x4, and with how easily you can get to x4, it absolutely pales in comparison to 25%.

A small shortcoming is that if you do not get 2 kills within one grenade, and you pick up the well, you will not be able to throw a grenade to get from x2 to x4, because it'll instantly consume your x2 stack. This is why the double duration grenades are important, but you can work around this shortcoming with any of the adjustments above (or just git gud and alway get 2 kills).

    The TL;DR

You're a bottom tree nightstalker. You throw a grenade, get a kill. The following happens:

    • You get greatly increased super energy for each kill

    • An elemental well spawns. If you're skillful with your grenade placement, thanks to its double duration, you'll get 2 elemental wells (one at the start, one towards the end).

You pick up the Well, and the following happens:

    • You get reduced grenade cooldown for each Well

    • You get 2 charges of light per Well

    • You get enhanced super regen for 30 seconds

You use these benefits, the Nightstalker subclass, and whatever mods/weapon perks of choice to regen your grenade, so when you throw it again (this time at Charged With Light x4):

    • You get up to 25% of your super energy back instantaneously.

Once you have reached 50% of your super gained back, this portion of the build is put on pause, so that's why Font of Wisdom and Ashes to Asset help gain the last 50%. You will continue to receive charges of light though, so by the time you use your super, you have likely already reached x4 charges again. Simply use your grenade when your super is over, and kickstart the process all over again with a 25% head start.

In theory, this build works on all classes and all subclasses, it simply may just be a little harder to get double wells due to having to get spaced out kills with a single grenade. I anticipate Voidwalker overcharged grenades and maybe Titan Pulse/Thermite grenades could work, so the essence is still there.

Pick up your weapon of choice, perhaps Bad Juju and a Demolitionist special weapon if you feel extra spicy, and and I'll see you on the battlefield!

There's an egg in the Prophecy dungeon that drops Synthstrand

    Posted: 15 May 2021 06:09 AM PDT

In the room with the thrall before the final boss fight, there is a red egg on the far right of the room as you enter that rewards 20 synthstrand when collected. This is definitely one of the most efficient ways to earn synthstrand so I recommend collecting it.

Not sure if this has been posted before but I thought I would share.

Edit: Other people do not seem to be getting the same result. Maybe it is a random chance or maybe it only works if you hadn't already collected the urn previously. I guess we will have to wait to find out more about what makes this drop.

I love override, I've done it about 40 times. During my 40 runs, I noticed how similar the first half of the activity is to SoA's Contact public event. I liked that one too, but this isn't the first mote activity. Gambit(obviously), GoS, Prophecy, and even one of the exo challenges. I understand how mechanic-based activities need simplicity for blueberries, but motes are getting stale for at least me. I know making entirely new mechanics are difficult and are usually only done for RADs, but something new would be good.
