    Trials of Osiris is LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

    FAQ

    What is Trials of Osiris?

    • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

    • To start, head to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar and buy one of the possible passages (see below).

    • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

    • It uses Win Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches.

    • There is NO fireteam matchmaking. You need to team up yourself!

    • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled.

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

    • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

    • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to compete with in the Trials?

    • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App).

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

    • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If they haven't ask right below.

I genuinely hope that we will get a Resilience (or Barricade) Rework/Buff sometime in the future

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:30 AM PDT

Resilience is a dump stat that hase zero impact on PvE and barely matters in PvP. There has been a lot of talk about "power fantasy" lately, but this stat barely does anything to enhance the "wet noodle" feeling that Destiny sometimes has...

And of course, someone's going to bring up "But you need to run 4/5 Resilience so you are not two tap HC" (Or whatever the current meta argument is). But this is an incredibly narrow argument that can be ignored 90% of the time. It's irrelevant if you face 2 or more oponents, if they don't run this exact setup, if they whiff a single shot, if some DMG booster is active, or of they just use a One-Shot Special Weapon.

Resilience is also coupled with the the one Class Ability where Cooldown matters the least if you have it up or not. Hunter Doges are something that you want to use all the time as they grant you powerfull boons while also providing mobility and some security, same with Empowering Rifts that improves DPS in PvE while enabling some strong combinations in PvP (besides that Recovery is generally considered the most important stat anyway), but Barricade?

Tower Barricade can provide "some" security, when shots or grenades not just bug through it, you don't die while deploying it or it gets intterupted because of a slight slope, and Rally Barricade may just not even exist. They are abilities that are the definiton of "On demand" not "On Cooldown". You don't need a barricade every 14 seconds (Level 10), every 37 seconds (Level 3) is enough. If Barricades had additional gameplay-impacting effects, then this would be a different matter.

I'm not advocating that a chonky 10 Resilience Titan should be able to tank a Sniper headshot while also being able to drop a Tower Barricade that grants every ally that runs trhough it a 200 HP overshiled ... but it's current state is mind boggling pathetic.

Hell, keep it in PvP as is, but calculate the the % increase times ten for PvE and we would finally get closer to some of that "power fantasy" of a unmoveable Wall that Titans somewhat promise...

Having a KWTD post is fine. Having a KWTD post and not actually KNOWING WHAT TO DO makes you a bad guardian

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:28 PM PDT

Title mostly but this is really shitty behavior. Joining a group that's demanding everyone knows what to do yet they have two in the group that's never done it before isn't cool.

What's even worse is joining a group not knowing what to do and faking it for several runs.

    Ok rant over.

The statues are ominous and might be a tease for something. But I'm more excited about the possibility of having more destroyable objects in the game world(outside of explosive boxes). This could add an amazing new element to the game if it's built onto correctly.

The Marty O Donnell flustercluck has returned again (Summary of Marty's 2014 firing and new controversy right now)

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:49 PM PDT

TLDR: Activision put Led Zeppelin over a Destiny trailer and refused to release Music of the Spheres. Marty got angry and claimed the music in the E3 Presentation was not Bungie's, threatening fellow employees in an attempt to keep the trailer from being posted online and interrupted press briefings. By April 2013, the audio work was piling up, members of O'Donnell's team were complaining to management regarding Marty's attitude. The Bungie board of directors terminated O'Donnell's employment without cause on April 11". Now Marty appears to be in legal hot water over WHAT SEEMS TO BE his release of Destiny's/Halo's music and Behind the Scenes (this is still unconfirmed).

It's important to remember why Marty was fired back in D1, essentially for being a bit of an arse but he isn't only to blame. Bungie/Activisions fault remains to be seen.

While it is very clear Activision and Bungie had some blame, O'Donnell never did himself any favors by acting high and mighty on multiple occasions. He has come off as needlessly abrasive in the past.

This abrasiveness is actually at the heart of why he was fired from Bungie.

"So imagine his disappointment when, shortly before E3 2013 as Bungie was preparing a trailer for Destiny featuring O'Donnell's music, Activision stepped in and took over trailer creation, supplying its own music instead."

According to the court documents, O'Donnell was furious. He believed Activision had overstepped its role by taking over creative control of the trailer. Bungie CEO Harold Ryan and the rest of management agreed and filed a complaint with Activision, but Activision overruled it. The audio director's frustrations were compounded by the fact that his desire to see Music of the Spheres produced in its entirety as a separate audio release, a prospect that Activision didn't seem keen on.

O'Donnell responded to the Activision-scored trailer by tweeting during the game's E3 presentation that the music was not Bungie's, threatening fellow employees in an attempt to keep the trailer from being posted online and interrupted press briefings.

"O'Donnell believed the Bungie spirit was being compromised by the Activision agreement, and perhaps they were. But management saw his actions as disruptive and harmful. O'Donnell was given a poor employee review in the fall of 2013".

    https://kotaku.com/how-halo-and-destinys-composer-got-fired-from-bungie-1728943410

I am 100% sympathetic towards his frustration over what Activision was doing to Bungie and the game he was working on. But the problem is that:

"By early April the audio work was piling up, members of O'Donnell's team were complaining to management that his presence was frustrating completion of work and he wasn't contributing as much as he was expected. The Bungie board of directors terminated O'Donnell's employment without cause on April 11"

If you're a game developer as part of a team, you want to be as good a friend to the team as you can be. If your behavior is causing your team-mates to complain to studio management that they can't get their work done, and you're not delivering the work you're supposed to, that's a problem that you need to have some self-reflection about.

It's easy to idolize game developers who put out good work. I think he's an exemplary composer and sound designer, and if he had been involved in Halo still, audio disasters like the MCC wouldn't have happened. However, that doesn't mean that he should get a free pass for acting like a prick.

And I would argue that even in this situation, he comes across like a bit of bad. He comes across as passive-aggressive in how he has presented this news. He doesn't come across as someone very sad about the situation, saying, "It's on XYZ's hands, and I hope they'll change their minds" like many composers would. No, he acts like he's on the mountaintop. And that's the norm for him online.

As aside, I think his story about Activision is rather timeless, especially in the light of Activision recently gutting so many studios and turning them into Call of Duty factories, and of course the general greed and mistreatment of employees across the company.

"O'Donnell describes a conversation with the CFO of Activision and using the phrase "be nice to the goose" to relate how Bungie was laying golden eggs for Activision. The CFO would then go on to say how much he liked that analogy "but sometimes there's nothing like a good Foie Gras".

    So what's new in 2021?

Marty has claimed there are new legal messes, suggesting Bungie or Activision is sueing him saying "Ask Pete Parsons" (CEO of Bungie). The reasoning is unclear but Marty has also been uploading Destiny OSTs and Behind the scenes which he may or may not fully own. This seems to be the likeliest reason

Bungie is not completely to blame here, any company would probably sue when a composer starts uploading content that the company partially/fully owns, not to mention the claims made when Marty worked at Bungie.

There it is, what a mess

Please Consider Making The Seasonal Buff To Firefly Permanent

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:57 PM PDT

Title. Dragonfly was my favorite perk in D1. Until this season and the seasonal mod "Energy Accelerant" it has been situational at best. Thanks to this mod, I'm having a goddamn blast (literally) running anything with firefly in most PVE content. Bungie, please please please consider making this buff permanently available -through mods or otherwise!

If not, I'll be sad to see my fun guns go away at the end of the season, but thank you for giving me a little taste of the Dragonfly perk again.

I just played a crucible match in which nobody was using stasis, and it felt great!

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:48 AM PDT

Seriously, good job Bungie. Yeah, stasis is still better than the light subclasses, but now we have a reason to use the light subclasses. It's seriously so refreshing

Edit: Wow this blew up fast. Thanks for all of your inputs! I've seen a lot of people say Stasis is now more of a useful tool instead of a dominant weapon. I think that's definitely true, now we need to wait until Bungie does the aspect/fragment thing for light and I think crucible will be way more fun than it has been

Bungie, since you've already nerfed the new exotic boots within A MONTH, could you please buff the weaker exotics???

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 06:05 AM PDT

A lot of us would be OK with the nerfs if there was any reasonable justification behind it. There would probably a lot more excitement if there were buffs to older exotics.

    Fusion Rifle DPS Testing

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 04:47 PM PDT

Hey all, I'm not usually one to do this kind of stuff but my friend sent me this video of Scrub one-phasing Aetheon using Null Composure, and I was wondering if there was a better Fusion Rifle for the job. I couldn't find any DPS tests with some quick google-ing, so I loaded into Last Wish and gave it a shot. If anyone has another source for this info please let me know and I'll add it to the post.

TL:DR - If you want to use a Fusion Rifle, it looks like Cartesian Coordinate with Vorpal or Coriolis Force are the best options, since you can farm them easily, and the only one that seems to outperform them is Exile's Curse with Vorpal, which isn't easy to farm. Fusion Rifles also might beat non-hot-swap slug shotguns, though more testing with Lunafaction boots and Divinity needs to be done before I'll say that for sure.

All tests were done on Kalli, point blank, with no headshots, no damage or magazine size mods, no perks (vorpal, backup plan, etc.), or anything else that could increase damage. Damage started when she began her wipe animation (raising her arms) to make testing easier and more consistent (I didn't want to deal with her "boop" attacks while doing DPS).

    Adaptive Frame:
    Timelines Vertex = 73.7k

    Precision Frame:
    Plug one = 81.8k

    Aggressive Frame:
Coriolis Force = 83.4k 97.3k (see edit 1 at the bottom)
Coriolis can roll with Rangefinder, but more testing with Lunafaction boots is necessary to find out if it would help.

    Rapid Fire Frame:
    Cartesian Coordinate = 84.4k
Null Composure = 84.4k (calculated with no damage increases)
Null Composure = 87.3k (reservoir burst, since it increases the damage of the first shot)
Null Composure = 91.3k (high impact reserves + 8 round mag from swapping perks, whole mag used)
Cartesian Coordinate = 97.1k (calculated with Vorpal, 15% increase according to d2gunsmith.com)

    High Impact Frame:
    Exile's Curse = 93.3k
    Glaciocasm = 93.3k
    Exile's Curse = 107.3k (calculated with Vorpal, 15% increase according to d2gunsmith.com)

Slug shotty (for reference/comparison, so I only hit body shots):
    Sojourner's Tale = 77.3k

The following numbers are courtesy of my friend A Wild Snorlax, with the same restrictions as my tests (unless noted):
    Telesto - 99.9k
    Jotunn - 66.3k
    Merciless - 98.4k
    Bastion - 82.7k

    Other weapons for comparisons:
Witherhoard - 31.1k Direct Impact only
Witherhoard - 53.7k Direct Impact + Pool on the floor
    Anarchy - 37.8k, 1 Grenade
    Anarchy - 71.5k, 2 Grenades
    Truth - 132.2k, 6 rockets
    Two-Tailed Fox - 113.6k, 3 rockets
    1000 Voices - 137.8k, 4 shots (34,450 per shot)
Eyes of Tomorrow - 64.4k, 3 rockets (~21,433 per rocket)
    Wardcliff Coil - 77.4k, 2 rockets (~38,700 per rocket)
Threaded Needle (Liquid Coils + Vorpal) - 38.8k, 7 shots (all body) (~5,543 per shot)
Threaded Needle (Same) - 158.2k, 5 shots (4 precision, 1 body) (~38,164 per precision shot)

Full loadout DPS tests, without Breach and Clear:
    Witherhoard/Null Composure/Vorpal Hezen Vengence - 188.4k (1 grenade, 2 rockets, 8 fusion)
    Anarchy/Null Composure - 165.1k (2 grenades, 8 fusion)

Potential missing info: If headshot/Divinity multipliers are different for different archetypes of Fusions, this could work differently with a Divinity (I don't think this is the case, but I didn't have anyone to help me test it so I can't be 100% sure). Same goes for comparisons to slug shottys.

Takeaways or random notes from testing:
    - All fusion rifles of the same archetype seem to do equal DPS, though the ranges can be different, which may make some better than others
    - Vorpal Weapon is mathematically better than High Impact Reserves, though I didn't have any Fusions with Vorpal on them to test with. In Raids/Grandmasters, Fusions would likely be paired with Breach and Clear on Anarchy or Witherhoard, so with the auto-loading you may not see the full damage bonus from High Impact Reserves anyway.
    - Coriolis Force seems to have it's damage calculated differently than other Fusions. While testing with Breach and Clear, all Fusion Rifles were creating one damage number per "pellet", where Coriolis Force gave me one damage number per burst. I don't think this matters, but I found it interesting (and it might be a bug).
    - I'm pretty sure that when I had Anarchy with Breach and Clear on Kalli, I could get headshots for double damage with Fusion Rifles. I didn't think Fusion Rifles could get headshots? Is this a bug? I didn't know that Last Wish bosses take 2x damage on headshots, ignore this

Overall, I don't know if Fusions will ever beat double-slug, due to both hot-swapping and the increased ammo reserves that double-slug has over Fusion Rifles. Even if hot-swapping gets nerf'd, the ammo reserves might still make double-slug better. But if you want to use a Fusion Rifle, it seems like you should start farming for a good Cartesian Coordinate.

This post got a lot longer than I meant it to lol, thanks for reading!

Edit 1: u/Rikiaz pointed out that Coriolis Force should have a higher DPS, and in my initial testing I think I forgot that Coriolis goes "brrrt" sideways instead of upwards, and since Kalli is a fairly thin target I think I missed some of my pellets when testing. I went back and re-tested, made sure I hit all my pellets, and came up with 97k.

Edit 2: Added a few more exotic weapon DPS numbers from my friend

Lets hope that next seasons Ritual Weapon will be anything else but another special.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:46 AM PDT

Would be nice seeing a new primary or heavy. The guns we got are nice and all but Adored is outclassed in almost every way by Frozen Orbit. And Null Composure is also worse than the Nightfall Fusionrifle Plug One.1. Salvagers Salvo is the only unique one of them.

Edit 1: They should probably make something they havent done before as either Pinnacle/Ritual. Sword, Rocket Launcher and Trace Rifles. With Bungie also adding Legendary Stasis weapons next season they could make the New Ritual Weapon deal Stasis damage.

I might catch flak for this but I dont think any raid boss should be a 1 phase for the average team

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:03 AM PDT

Its a raid boss, it's supposed to be an enemy you fight for like 10 solid minutes. And a huge part of these raid boss fights is the reset where you go to repeat everything you just did but under the pressure of not having the ammo and abilities you had available at the start of the encounter.

And no I'm not calling for a return to the Oryx boss fight where it was a forced 4 phase no matter how good you got.

Aksis had fight length down to a perfect Tee. It was 3-4 phases for the average team, 2 if they used the supercharged mechanic effectively. And it was only a 1 phase for the most cracked DPS squads in the game going for a speedrun. And it felt damn good to fight Aksis

Raid bosses have become pushovers in Destiny 2, and Bungie deciding not to fix the Riven cheese back when it was first discovered was the catalyst that has lead to so many people being so incredibly cutthroat about encounter design and weapon/ability damage to push for the 1 phase in every raid.

TLDR: A raid boss should never be a 1 phase kill unless you're an extremely experienced group specifically trying to get it. 3-4 phases should be the average.

This, along with the record 20.5 year old doe harvested a few years ago, has experts wondering what the heck is going on with Vermont deer.

Behemoth Titan feels like ass to play now

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:29 PM PDT

I was fine with the slow and freezing nerfs and even the super nerfs, but this movement nerf makes the class feel like complete doo doo.

It felt great finally having a titan class with mobility. In my opinion that was the biggest draw of the entire class.

But this movement nerf has literally ruined it. The class is still strong but it doesn't feel fun to play anymore and feels more cumbersome then anything else now.

If you want to leave this nerfed for pvp that's fine, all 4 people who still regularly play it will collectively clap their hands and complain about something else next week

But it was perfect in pve.
