His Taken King pre-release info guides were so good that we gave him wiki permissions on the subreddit to build out entire pages with known info. He tragically passed away a few years ago and we decided as a moderator team to rename our Guide of the Year Award in his memory. Rest in peace, Guardian.

Here are 44(!) original concepts for ritual weapons and exotics

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 09:29 AM PST

    Swazdoh-lah, Tenno, that's not it. Er...greetings, Guardians!

I have designed 44 individual weapons, mostly in themed sets. They are a mix of legendary ritual weapons and exotics. It's not just crappy text descriptions either - there are crappy pictures too!

here is the link to the pictures

I have tried to be creative and design unique weapons, while remaining believable in the context of Destiny's world. Except two...you'll know 'em when you see 'em. Two others (The Centrepiece and All Star) are based on suggestions from the DTG Discord.

    Why?

I am an artist. This was fun. Also good practice.

    Those are pinnacles!

Yeah but I can't call them that any more, can I? In all respects other than the unique perk, they are rituals - they're designed to come from themed ritual pursuits from specific vendors or events.

    Your balancing sucks!

Post your suggestions below. We can discuss this peaceably.

    What about exotic catalysts?

Didn't feel like it. More text than picture and I'm here for the picture. Suggestions accepted.

    Bungie

If you're reading this and liking it, let's talk. I like money. You like guns. It's simple math, Guardian.

    Thanks for the gold

I know you didn't give it. I'm a Hunter main, I just took yours while you were reading this.

Destiny was better when you could "finish" the content and step away

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 02:28 PM PST

The game as it is tries everything it can to make every step take longer. The game becomes a chore-list simulator. A part time job simulator. Log in, get your daily busywork tasks like shoot 200 enemies with this gun, complete them all, do it enough days and you can eventually get something nice.

    That's a job.

Even Year 2 was like this with forges and having to log in every weekend to do random busywork to get some paragraphs of mystery box lore writing that may or may not go somewhere during gambit season.

Now it's "keep the player logging in every day, whatever the cost." Now it's making you run around and pull weeds every day cause at least it's SOMETHING. that's not content to me. I liked the game when you could grind hard on stuff, and if you could get all the things and the stuff the faster you grinded, and once you did you could step away and come back in a couple months time or so.

Now every part of the game wants you logging in at least weekly. Why? Probably because a logged in player is able to buy eververse stuff when it refreshes weekly. And the more a player looks at it, the more chances they have to buy it. So now this is the cycle we get.

I don't like it, I got burnt out on the chorelists during the tribute hall discounts or whatever, and seeing less and less be stretched out more and more makes me less willing to play, not more

3 Ascendant Shards to MW an Exotic is too much

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:03 AM PST

The resources required to MW an Exotic is way too high.

Just to state to MW an Exotic item (from Lvl1-10), it costs:

    • 374k Glimmer
    • 29 Legendary Shards
    • 5 Enhancement Cores
    • 5 Enhancement Prisms
    • 3 Ascendant Shards

Total, that's 355 Enhancement Cores if you do not have any Prisms or Shards (unlikely I know, but still too high)

Attached is the document with the numbers: https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=B874333D5520F828!1519&ithint=file%2cxlsx&authkey=!AM5MMUiTeWcbGjU

Considering we have elemental affinity we have to worry about as well, the RNG and costs of this is too high.

Bungie, can we please take a look at readjusting the costs?

I'm going to keep making this suggesting every Iron Banner. Please provide Freelance Iron Banner

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 09:14 PM PST

Solo Iron Banner is a dumpster fire. It is not fun but, you've locked the only Crucible pinnacle source behind this game mode. Getting a solo match vs 5 or 6 stacks running Jotun and now Bastion is just plain stupid. When my match starts and every one on my team caps the first zone and nobody presses B it is a guaranteed loss. Most likely a mercy. Then the super s#%$ show starts. Normally involves getting killed twice by the same super when you spawn in.

I really don't need to hear the git gud and run with a fireteam suggestions. I'm supposed to be able to play how I want to play.

Freelance comp is fantastic. Please let us enjoy this game mode for IB

Ships, sparrows and transmat effects already in our collection should not be in the engram pool.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 01:52 PM PST

Just like ghost projections, there is nothing random about any of these. Sure, a ship might drop with a random transmat effect, but odds are we're going to change it anyway.

I was excited to get Saint-14's Grey Pigeon since I missed it Year 1. But after the 5th drop the excitement waned.

Meanwhile, I still have one emote in the loot pool I've yet to have drop.

Removing them from the pool will help us get things we're actually missing, or increase the chance of getting a gift of bright dust once we have everything. Really, the only duplicates we should get are ghost shells, since they still have random rolls. If they want to increase the pool they can bring back eververse armor or something else that makes it worthwhile.

As an aside, I still think it would be great if we could dismantle engrams directly into bright dust. Even if it's a small amount, like 50-100, it would be something for people who've played enough to already have everything being offered, especially if they're going to continue the trend of only having old stuff drop from engrams.

I'd rather have the game be 300 GB's with all the content playable than 100 with past content gone.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 03:24 PM PST

I get the intent of "you had to be there" (oh hey look I read the Paul Tassi article too) but frankly that feeling can be accomplished in such better ways, and may not even be the best emotion to attach to every aspect of each activity in this game.

I remember the "You had to be there" moment when me and my two friends stomped through Trials of Osiris for the first time and got to the lighthouse. That was great.

I remember the "You had to be there" moment when me and my raid group went in blind and completed the Last Wish raid after nearly a week of trying on and off. That was great (and very, very satisfying when we wiped at Riven because we didn't know to rush in at first)

I remember the "You had to be there" moment when I finally soloed the Shattered Throne. That was legitimately awesome.

Now all I can think of is how little I care to partake in something that is a "you HAVE to be here" loop. I'm no psychologist so I don't know what about that is so psychologically off-putting, but that's the difference between chores and games to me. This is why I enjoy taking hours organizing and setting up auto-sorting chest systems in Minecraft, but I hate the 30 minutes it takes to drive out to my local Valve and get the oil changed. One is something I can put on hold at any time because it isn't timeframe dependent. Putting it off doesn't actively degrade my life or experience. As a result, it is a relaxing task to do in my free time without any worry that something will come up that fully prevents me from eventually accomplishing what I want to do, and the other is what Destiny 2 feels like right now.

Make good content that feels great to complete. That's plenty enough for most people's "you had to be there" checkbox. For more "hardcore" players, make a triumph seal that can only be completed during that season; I honestly have no problem with that. But after this year of experimenting with this "you had to be there" mentality, I would REALLY appreciate it if the game went back to leaving all the content available. At the least, remove older content first, as that's content that a significantly higher proportion of the community would be willing to leave behind over the newer stuff.

Edit 1: Post title is fairly Hyperbolic. I believe the base game was either ~60 or 80 GB's so with nearly 3 years of DLC bringing it to about 100 GB's, we realistically wouldn't even hit 150 by the time Destiny 3 launches (assuming it's another 3-ish years out)

Edit 2: It's been pointed out by a few users that the audio and video files for other languages takes up an unholy amount of the download space for the game, and perhaps a separate download for each supported language would go a decent way to lower the issue of how massive the game seems to be. I think that's relatively reasonable, but I'd like to hear more voices on that particular front

Sometimes ignoring this sub is a good thing. Salt Free.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 06:22 AM PST

This is not a post to bash anything about this sub. There is so much great information here, and everyone is certainly entitle to their opinions. This is a PSA that sometimes buying into hype and negativity can hinder your own experience.

I was guilty of this for the longest time myself. More specific I avoided PvP like the plague for the most part. I used to love Iron Banner, and seeing posts about how the new quest was a pain, and getting stomped by 6 stacks, I just figured it best to avoid altogether.

Enter this season. I decided it was time to stop talking myself out of it based on what I was reading online. In the process I have gone from a mid to bottom of the leaderboard player to mid to top of the board. I have obtained Luna's, Mountaintop, Randy's and am working on Redrix right now. None of these would have been possible if I kept listening to the voice saying it was too tough because everyone else said it was.

Last night I loaded in and decided to pick up the quest and bounties from Saladin, First match I loaded into a game in progress. We were down by 15 but ended up winning. Same group for the next few matches, and we went on a good win streak. There were a few matches we lost at the last minute, but I never once encountered a 6 stack. I made good progress on the quest and got some pinnacle gear from the bounties.

All in all it was a fun night.

My hope with this post is that someone here reads it and ends up doing whatever activity they were hesitant to do because they read it was too hard or whatever the reason may be.

TL;DR - Don't let others experience hinder your own. Chances are you will have a completely different experience.

The community would definitely benefit from a State of the Game before the start of the next season.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 06:18 AM PST

Title. It seems like the community is at a boiling point due to a plethora of issues that have not been even recognized by the community managers/game directors publicly. I remember the state of the games from before Shadowkeep, Forsaken, The Taken King, Etc., and it was usually able to satiate the masses pretty well. Just off the top of my head, the amount of unanswered questions/concerns going forward:

    • Renewed Focus on PVP. Seriously, whats the status of this?
    • Prevalence of Eververse and lack of in game rewards
    • Armor 2.0 not really solving anything
    • FOMO out the ass as far as seasonal activities go.
    • "You had to be there" moments not being worth it.
    • State of endgame PvE activities not allowing variety
    • Current load times/general performance issues on all platforms.
    • Unresolved story lines
    • Bounties being the only way to reliably earn XP.

Feel free to add more in the comments, because I know I'm missing a ton. It seems like a well thought out state of the game from the top of Bungie or even an actually worthwhile TWAB would go a long ways towards helping quell some of the communities concerns.

Destiny 2 Is Becoming Less & Less Enjoyable With Every New Season

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 02:34 AM PST

Before I begin, I'd like to mention that Destiny is still my favorite game franchise of all time. I have played the game since the first year of Destiny 1 and some of my fondest gaming experiences have come from this franchise. I think of Destiny like my child, who was very well-behaved in its childhood, but now, in its adolescence, lets say, has dropped out of school and is currently addicted to heroin. I still love this child of mine and I still want it to succeed, I'm just disappointed in it at the moment.

Destiny is a one-of-a-kind game with untapped potential. However, I feel that this potential is being wasted in many ways. I don't know if I'm the only one that feels that this game isn't as fun as it used to be. Whether this is due to the fact that I've been playing the game for so long or whether it's Destiny's lackluster state.

In my opinion, the biggest issue with Destiny 2 in its current state is the lack of loot and loot incentive. It is slowly killing this game for me, so I'd like to explain my frustrations here and then propose a possible solution.

I'd like to take you all back to Destiny 1; to a land where strikes actually had a purpose, a land where vendors would reset more than once a year, and where you would stock up your legendary engrams in preparation of a mass opening at the cryptarch. These weren't huge parts of Destiny 1, but it was these little things, like the reward screen at the end of a crucible game, which kept me playing the first game even through the dreaded 3-4 month dry periods. To be honest though, I'd rather have a few months of dryness in between larger content drops than this constant state of half-hearted interest in the game, where I'm being drip fed the same, formulaic content, just dressed up differently.
In Destiny 1, if you count the 3 factions as well as other activities like Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner. We had at least 7 vendors which would bring fresh weapons and armor with every major content drop. As well as this, most of these vendors would refresh their gear every week I believe? Bringing in new rolls on gear and rotating the gear available.
Compare this to Destiny 2. There are no factions in Destiny 2, and the vendors haven't reset since the Forsaken expansion, which released nearly 18 months ago. By now, It is likely that I have received every conceivable roll on every single one of the crucible and vanguard vendor weapons...TWICE. At this point, every time I receive one of these weapons, I just instantly dismantle it, without a second glance.

Trials of Osiris, once a weekly draw for me, is currently nowhere to be found either. I mean honestly, you were able to hire Nathan Fillion to voice Cayde for 4 years, and you can't bring back ToS or give us a yearly vendor reset.

Also, can we talk about the exotics that are being pumped out lately?
Lately, it seems that every season, we get the formula derived "1 exotic armor piece per class," and most of the exotics are the most gimmicky, uninspired creations of the modern era. I mean, I get there were some terrible exotics in Destiny 1, but who the hell came up with the idea to create warlock boots that spawn rifts whenever you kill something in dawnblade?

Anyway, in summary of this part of the rant, I believe that the current vendors and lack of inspired, original, worthwhile gear available for me to chase in Destiny 2 is turning me away from the game.

Now I will propose some possible solutions to this issue. I am not sure as to how difficult this would be to implement, or if it would even be effective, I'm just throwing some ideas out there.

The most obvious solution to the loot problem would be to just add more loot. However, I understand that there is a clear limit to how much content Bungie can create for us, and just blindly demanding more loot will probably result in more re-skinned assets and/or empty, uninspired formula type content.

    THE SOLUTIONS

And so, that brings me to the other solution. I propose that Bungie implements a randomized trait system into the game, similar to the system found in The Division. (I AM SUGGESTING THAT DESTINY BECOME MORE LIKE DIVISION! I just feel that adding an extra layer to the loot received in the game would tremendously improve its replayability in the long run.)

Picture this: You get a Go Figure for the 100th time.
"Oh cool! It has outlaw and rampage.."
"Too bad I already have this exact roll.."
    (Dismantling occurs shortly after.)
Currently, it is almost guaranteed that this Go Figure will be identical to one that you've already received before, and will therefore be instantly dismantled.
Now instead picture, like before, a Go Figure drops for the 101st time.
"Oh Cool! It has outlaw and rampage!"
    "OH WOW. It also has:

    + 31% Precision Damage
    + 14% Magazine Size
    + 6% Fire Rate
    + 13% Damage To Fallen
    - 10% Overall Damage
[ONLY ACTIVE IN PvE]" <<< To Avoid Breaking The Crucible

Something like this! PLEASE! For me at least, this change alone, would bring me back to the game in an instant, and I might never leave. Again, I understand that this may be difficult to implement and that this might have adverse effects on the game, but I have realized, that compared to other looter-shooters, the gear that you receive in Destiny is really quite basic and shallow. In 90% of cases, you get 2 perks, which pretty much always end up being (on primaries) outlaw + rampage/kill clip, and then call it a day. I feel that a expanded trait system like this would exponentially increase the potential for PvE builds and extend the lifespan of the game.
In fact, for PvP players, you could even have certain traits that only work in PvP, say traits that improve handling, stability and other, non-damage related stats.
This could also fix the current state of raid weapons and raid armor. At the moment, most raid gear is no different from regular gear from legendary engrams, aside from say 5 or 10 extra stat points. With an expanded trait system, legendaries that were earned traditionally may only have 2 or 3 traits on them, whereas gear that drops from more challenging activities may drop with 4, 5 or even 6 traits. This would actually grant some much needed value to raid gear.

Bungie, I'm begging, please, if not this, please try something to help the loot economy of the game. I really don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep coming back to these stupid seasonal content drops. I will however, always love and remember this game, regardless of where it goes in the future, and I shall cherish the experiences I've had playing Destiny.

This is why I solo queue in the normal comp playlist after getting unbroken

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 12:27 PM PST

Bungie, I don’t care if they’re not used perfectly. At this point I just really, really miss Factions being used at all.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 05:55 PM PST

In D1 and D2Y1 factions gave loot, an additional gameplay loop and opportunities for some role playing and lore.

Bungie took them out of the game before Forsaken and I can't remember the last time we had an update. I'm guessing Bungie has given up on them. Those vendor spaces are just wasted. The ornaments we earned over three seasons gathering dust in collections.

Bungie, can we get any update on where you are with factions? Or at the very least on making those ornaments universal?

I Aim Like A Potato begs for a Heroic Event

Can we get this emote? Sure would save a lot of frustration.

Higher quality content less often is better than the current content release structure

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 12:06 PM PST

"BRO WE ALREADY TRIED THAT AND PPL COMPLAINED ABOUT DROUGHT"

Yeah, you're right. The thing is, now that we are on the other side of that - turns out that was the better system, here's why:

It means we get a lot more content at one time instead of drip fed content.

"People will just blow through it and complain!"

Sure, and people will also be able to take a break from the game and enjoy other games without constant FOMO creeping up on them if they know the next content release is weeks or months away. Which also means coming back to the game feeling fresh instead of the constant grind we have now that is becoming closer to a part-time job (or full time for some) than an enjoyable videogame.

You can use Revoker to take out a Hunter's Shadowshot and still get free ammo back

Probably works with other player created objects like tripmine grenades also.

The Free To Play Base and Season System has Turned Into a Nightmare

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 07:30 AM PST

Secret content is not actually secret anymore. Community puzzles are not given the appropriate respect and rewards based on efforts. They would rather add a spot on the Roadmap than create a meaningful and quality experience from start to finish. The puzzle was good. The overall event was not, especially since the puzzle is now irrelevant. This seems like being guided by a business model, something Bungie said they wanted to move away from in their Shadowkeep ViDoc.

Most content is non permanent making no meaningful additions to the game in the long run. All we are getting are Menagerie lites that are temporary. But tons of effort obviously goes into the landscapes and arenas and it feels bad to see all of that development effort just squandered after 3 months when so many core playlist like Strikes and Crucible needing permanent additions as they are not in a good place. The game can't grow forever, but there has to be a better medium between content coming and staying versus going.

Lore Books being made unearnable. Grimoire was hated in D1 not because of its content but because it wasn't available in game. This is a reverse of years of feedback. Lore should be in game. The story of the game that is important to understanding the game world should be in game unless purposely contracted out like a Comic or External Book.

Eververse has grown increasingly terrible. Reversal in earnable bright dust amounts to pitiful levels. Reprisal Engrams offer nothing to those who have played forever. Lack of meaningful unique cosmetic rewards from new Raids, Nightfalls, and Dungeons. Armor sets costing more than a Season is ludicrous.

Dawn of exploits by free accounts in PvP. Can't even play online on PC at high end anymore. SBMM everywhere with such strict rules leads to laggy matches. Continued lack of balance updates outside of every 3 months.

If we must have another horde mode next season, instead of having a limited number of tanky, enemies, can we just have a crap ton of weak enemies? I feel that would dramatically increase the fun factor.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 12:06 AM PST

So, next season is presumably based around rasputin (based on brief glimpses in the first vidoc to mention seasons). So we'll almost certainly be fighting the hive. Now, with the current activity, sundial, theres quite a few bullet sponges. What I'm suggesting is something along the lines of, for every orange bar knight that was going to be added, remove it and have 10 acolytes instead. Because mowing through hordes of trash is fun. That is all.

Bungie please allow kill clip to be renewed even while its already active

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 05:13 AM PST

Kill clip is currently such a clunky experience in pve overall, as many weapons that enjoy the perk, will often kill enemies while the perk is active, and upon reloading loses the perk. This is not the case with multi-kill clip as you can kill an enemy and virtually enjoy the perk the whole time you fight as it renews on every kill-reload, making it insanely potent in PvE. I just wish the same for kill clip.

    Optimized Bounties For 1/22/2020

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 09:58 AM PST

As I'm sure you're all aware, January 22nd is National Answer Your Cat's Question Day. So when you play Widow's Court and you hear a cat, stop and make the time to have a chat with it. I'm sure your opponents will do the same.

Don't talk to the cats in the Dreaming City, though. Just give them their gift without making eye contact. Otherwise… well, let's not talk about otherwise. If you really want to know, go find CatTrivia.

Step 1 - Tell your cat that it's not dinner time yet, then feed her anyway because you're not winning this battle.

Step 2 - Pick up these dailies. Check here for the Weeklies.

    Tower Bounties

    • Saint XIV Daily – Leaderless Legion – Kill 3 Cabal Bosses
    • Saint XIV Daily - A Good Eye – 40 Precision Kills
    • Saint XIV Daily – Psion Slayer – Kill A Psion Boss in Sun Dial
    • Zavala Daily – The Harder They Fall – Kill 10 Challenging Enemies in Strikes
    • Zavala Daily – Finish Them – Kill 5 Enemies With Finishers in Strikes
    • Zavala Daily – They Were The Champions – Kill 5 Champion Enemies in Nightfall: The Ordeal
    • Shaxx Daily – Burn Bright – Cast Your Super Twice
    • Shaxx Daily – Peak Efficiency – Kill 2 Opponents in 1 Life
    • Shaxx Daily – Push the Advantage – Kill 3 Enemies With Zone Advantage

    Planetary Bounties

    • Eris Morn – Lunar Defender – Complete 2 Public Events
    • Eris Morn – One-Way Ballistics – 15 Kinetic Streak Kills
    • Eris Morn – Cut the Anchor – Kill 25 Fallen in Anchor of Light
    • Devrim Kay – European Live Zone – Kill 50 Enemies in the EDZ
    • Devrim Kay – Exterminator - Kill 30 Fallen in the EDZ
    • Devrim Kay – Salzwerk Scavenger - Loot 5 Chests in the EDZ
    • Spider Daily – Thin the Herd – Kill 50 Enemies on the Tangled Shore
    • Spider Daily – Super Visible – Get 20 Super Kills on the Tangled Shore
    • Spider Daily – Flotsam and Jetsam – Kill 35 Hive in the Jetsam of Saturn

Step 3 - Follow these steps:

    1. Head to the Tangled Shore. Make sure you're on the Bastion step that requires bounties and public events. Grab the two WANTED bounties for Public Event targets (Consul Partisan and Prince of Yul), and if you can, grab the bounty for Mazan as well. Complete a public event in the Jetsam of Saturn and Soriks's Cut. If you can make the Hive one Heroic, you'll clear all three bounties. Good luck with that, though. ☹ Clear everything for 3 Dailies, 2 WANTED's, and significant progress on Bastion. (10-15 minutes)

    2. Fly TO THE MOOOOOOON and grab Eris's bounties. Complete a Fallen Public Event in the Anchor of Light. That'll clear the Fallen/Kinetic bounties. Then just run any other PE to clear the last bounty. (10-15 minutes)

    3. Fly to Trostland in the EDZ. Grab Devrim's bounties and slap on an EDZ chest detector Ghost. Pick up any chests you see as you go to the Widow's Walk Lost Sector, clear it (also clearing the WANTED bounty), then mop up another 20 or so Fallen in Trostland. (5-10 minutes)

    4. Complete one Sun Dial. (15 minutes)

    5. Complete one 920 Nightfall: The Ordeal. (15 minutes)

    6. Complete one Iron Banner match. (10 minutes)

Total Non-Elemental Non-Weapon-Specific Bounties Cleared: 18 Dailies, 3 WANTED's, and you may complete (or be close to completing) your Obelisk weeklies for Cabal kills and Kinetic killstreaks.

    Total Time: 70-90 minutes.

Note 1: Had some requests to point out which Spider WANTED bounties were cheapest and easiest, so here you go!

    • Consul Partisan – Public Event in Soriks's Cut – 1 Fragment
    • Prince of Yul – Public Event in Jetsam of Saturn – 1 Fragment
    • Mazan, Lost Captain – Widow's Walk Lost Sector in EDZ – 2 Fragments
    • Karuguk – Methan Flush Lost Sector on Titan – 2 Fragments
    • Thaan'hul – DS Quarters-2 Lost Sector on Titan – 2 Fragments
    • Varghul, Fragment of Oryx – Cavern of Souls Lost Sector in EDZ – 2 Fragments

    10 Fragments for 6 WANTED's.

Note 2: I'm relaxing my rules on Planetaries a little. I'm still never going to recommend going to a planet for the 20 grenade kills or 3 Super multikills because they're too time consuming, but chests in the EDZ, particularly in Trostland, should be pretty fast. There's usually three or four just out and about, and Winding Cove reliably has two or three around as well.

Note 3: If you're doing the Bastion quest and you get to the Hollowed Lair strike, don't speedrun it. Kill everything, and stay through the final boss, to make a ton of progress on your Obelisk weekly for killing 300 Scorn.

Note 4: I've had some people say their Crucible bounties aren't completing in Iron Banner. Not sure what's going on, but all of mine have completed in IB just fine.

Bungie, why won't you let us do more than two frames per week? It's been a year

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 05:00 PM PST

Didn't do my two Black Armory frames last week and had a leftover ballistics log, come back to Ada after 2 frames and I can't do anymore, also the frames bought with modulus reports don't count for Jotunn.
