    Trials of Osiris are LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

    FAQ

    What is Trials of Osiris?

    • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

    • To start, head to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar and buy one of the possible passages (see below).

    • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

    • It uses Win Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches.

    • There is NO fireteam matchmaking. You need to team up yourself!

    • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled.

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

    • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

    • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to compete with in the Trials?

    • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App).

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

    • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If they haven't ask right below.

PVE Breakdown of nearly every Damage Resistance Mod, Exotic, and Ability

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 07:39 AM PDT

While I was running Prophecy I wondered: "What was the actual resistance provided by stacking mods?"

I went down a Rabbit hole for 2 weeks and this is what I came back with:

    Damage Resistance Guide Cheat Sheet

I highly recommend using the above if you need a quick version of how Damage Resist works. For more details, continue reading or check out the spreadsheet

Spreadsheet with full details, charts, and breakdowns of Mods, Exotics, and Abilities

This only pertains to PVE, as modifiers in PVP are generally different.

    Resist Mod Stacking Chart

    Resilience

Resilience is unfortunately not very useful in PVE aside from providing increased Barrier regen time for Titans. Each Tier of Resilience is effectively a 1-2% increase in overall shield, which ends up only being about a 0.5% increase in your overall resistance to damage.

    Concussive Dampener

At 15% resistance, and stacking up to a staggering 55.6%, it significantly outperforms other stackable mods. Most hard-hitting damage sources count as Area of Effect (AOE) damage and are reduced by this mod.

    • Boss Stomp
    • Concussive Blasts, Shots (This covers a lot of Bosses, Majors, Cyclops, Knights, and other sources)
    • Fire Pools, Grenades
    • Exploding Shanks, Screebs, Cursed Thralls
    x1 x2 x3 x4 x5
    15.00% 27.75% 38.59% 47.80% 55.63%

    Arc, Solar, and Void Resist

Unfortunately, elemental resists only provide a 5% resistance and stacks in a standard fashion

    x1 x2 x3 x4 x5
    5.00% 9.75% 14.26% 18.55% 22.62%

    Minor, Major, and Boss Resist

Minor, Major, and Boss Resist mods provide a stacking 10% resistance. However, this decreases in effectiveness faster than other mods. I would not recommend stacking more than 3 mods as this increase drops below even elemental resist.

    x1 x2 x3 x4 x5
    10.00% 17.86% 23.58% 27.16% 30.00%

Important note: For the purposes of Damage Resistance only, elite enemies with a Triangle Icon, including Champions, are actually considered Boss enemies. Use Boss Resist to decrease damage from them.

For Weapon Damage mods, you would use Major Spec to increase damage to Champions and other Elite enemies.

Minor Enemy Major Enemy Elite Enemy (Champions) Boss Enemy
Color/Icon Red / Square Orange / Shield Yellow / Triangle Bright Yellow / Diamond
Resist Mod Minor Resist Major Resist Boss Resist Boss Resist
Weapon Spec Minor Spec Major Spec Major Spec & Vorpal Boss Spec & Vorpal

    Fallen, Hive, and Taken Barrier

Enemy Barrier mods provide a 20% damage resistance AFTER having received damage from those sources. It does not stack with itself. However, Taken Barrier will stack with Hive or Fallen barrier for 36% resistance to those enemies.

Light Levels effect on Damage Resistance and Damage Dealt

This chart provides a brief overview of how Damage resistance works with your power level compared to the Activity power level

Essentially, as you approach the Power level of the activity; received damage drops substantially. After you reach the activity power level; received damage continues to decline slowly. This drop-off does not seem to have a cap.

Contest mode activities such as Grand Master Nightfalls, are not affected by this.

Regarding Damage dealt, there are more details in the spreadsheet. It would seem that there are two curves that are combined to effect weapon damage. The first curve applies to your overall light level and stops increasing at the recommended power level. The second curve continues to increase until the weapon itself is at the recommended power level +20.

The takeaway from this is that you should infuse your weapons as high as possible up to the power level cap of the activity minus your artifact level.

A bit of Math - How Damage Resistance combines

In almost all cases, the way Damage resistance combines is the same. The Resistances are each applied to the incoming damage, reducing it sequentially.

If you want to determine your percentage of incoming Damage from a source, you can calculate it as follows:

    ReceivedDamage = (1-Resist_1) * (1-Resist_2) * (1-Resist_3) * (.......)

For example: If you are attacked by a Taken Echo Knight and you have Taken Barrier 20%, Hive Barrier 20%, and 2x Concussive Dampener 27.75%:

    (1-20%) * (1-20%) * (1-27.75%) = 46.24% incoming Damage, or effectively 53.76% total resistance.

    Sword Blocking

Sword blocking is highly dependent on both the frame of the sword, and the sword guard chosen.

These are the stats of sword blocking with Temptation's Hook with different Guard perks.

    Enduring Swordmaster's Balanced Heavy Burst
    50% ~11 sec 56% ~4 sec 65.5% ~4 sec 74% ~5 sec 80% ~2.5 sec

Expect different results with different swords

    Super Resistance

Most Supers have about a 80% resistance. This is while they are active in the case of roaming supers, and while being cast in the case of supers like Nova Bomb and Blade Barrage.

Environmental Damage is handled a little differently, and you only have about a 50% resistance to damage in those same supers

Neither Golden Gun super seems to have any Damage Resistance provided.

    Exotics

For each exotic that offers a damage resistance or "reduces incoming damage" perk, the following information applies:

    Exotic Resistance Notes
Riskrunner 50% Applies only to Arc Damage
Ruinous Effigy 80% Resistance while blocking with an orb
Wings of Sacred Dawn 15% Damage resistance seems to apply during and shortly after ADS
Contraverse Hold 20% While holding a Void grenade
ACD/0 Feedback Fence 33%, 55%, 70% Damage Resist is for a single melee and stacks with charge to x3.
Skull of Dire Ahamkara ~80% to 96% Up to 75% resistance on top of normal super, but only for a brief moment.
Stronghold (Sword Block) 80% to 90% Increases Sword stats to max, resistance is still dependent on the sword frame.

    Exceptions and Special Cases

Most other cases, exotics, and other resistance attributes are in the Google sheet

The few exceptions to how damage resistance combines:

    • Minor/Major/Boss Resist - These mods have a decreasing curve based on the number of each mod to a max of 30%. Basically more than 3 is essentially useless compared to any other mod.
    • Resistant Tether 5% and Enhanced Resistant Tether 10% - In Garden of Salvation, each mod adds their resistance together for a max of 50%
    • Dreambane Mods 10% - each mod adds together for a max of 50%. However these are ONLY effective against a Nightmare Hunt Boss, no other enemy tested had damage reduced.
Note: This is also the one exception I found where it also ADDED to Hive Barrier....
    • Riven's Curse -3% - This mod increases damage from all sources in the Dreaming city. It drops on all Reverie Dawn armor. These add together for a potential 15% increase in Damage received.

    A note on Overshields

Overshields were not tested thoroughly as there are some difficulties with testing them and inconsistencies when being applied. For Example, the overshield from Saint-14's helm with Bubble is a different amount then the overshield from the defensive strike melee ability. Couple this with overshield abilities that recharge separately from your shield bar and health, and the elemental aspect of some Overshields makes them difficult to gauge and measure.

    Testing Methodology

To begin, most tests were performed using a "base" damage from a consistent source where possible. These were performed at 1083 light (1060 base , +23 Artifact) with Tier 0 resilience armor.

List of some test locations and enemies:

    • Minor Taken Hobgoblin - Dreaming City Chamber of Starlight
    • Minor Taken Acolyte - Dreaming City Aphelion's Rest
    • Minor Taken Vandal - Dreaming City Aphelion's Rest
    • Greg, Hive Ogre Boss - Titan Cargo Bay 3
    • Network Projector Boss Cyclops - Curse of Osiris Story Mission
    • Hive Barrier Knight Champion - Moon Hellmouth
    • Hive Lunar Scavenger Knight - Moon Hellmouth
    • Radiolaria Puddle - Asher Mir IO
    • Flame Cauldron - Crown of Sorrows
    • Taken Goo - Corrupted Strike
    • Taken Echo Knight - Prophecy
    • Vex Fanatic - Garden of Salvation
    • Loyalist Legionary - Leviathan
    • Phogoth - Nightmare Hunt
    • Fallen Vandal - EDZ Widow's Walk

Almost all tests were run with at least 2 sources of damage, and over multiple damage cycles. These were recorded at 2160x1440p 60fps (with some exceptions of verification tests by ABagOfPowder) and then transcribed using Tracker Video Analysis and Modeling Tool. Measurements for most tests were only taken from damage to the "Shield" portion of the Damage bar, as the "Health" portion is smaller and slightly more inconsistent.

This data was then transferred to Excel where it was translated into individual tests and percentages were calculated from the pixel measurement differences. Where appropriate, this was used to calculate resistances or combined resistance information.

You can find most of the data used in this Google Drive

ErRors, Margin of Error, and Rounding

Due to the way the Health bar is handled, there is definitely some rounding involved in the rendering. At 2160x1440 resolution, the shield portion of the health bar is 404 pixels wide, meaning a change in damage of 1% over the length of the bar SHOULD be measurable as a 4 pixel difference. In reality there seems to be some additional rounding, or integer math being done in damage calculations, leading to smaller damage sources actually being rounded up.

For Example, Minor resist often measures 9.75% on Thrall melee, but closer to 10% on Hobgoblin snipers. This, coupled with other measurement issues, may mean that some tests are within 1-2% of the actual in game values.

Some Damage Resistance, such as Warlock Nova Bomb, Titan Thundercrash, and Hunter Blade Barrage occur over such a brief period in time that resistance was difficult to test. Environmental damage was often used in these cases, however there is an environmental modifier applied while in super. This value was then used to determine what the "Base" damage resistance was for some of these supers.

I may post more charts, and relevant clips both in the comments below, and on twitter.

    Thank You!

Overall testing consisted of around 405 individual tests, processing about 23 gb of data, over one and a half hours of health bar footage, hundreds of screenshots, and lots of community sourcing for damage types, enemies, mods, and situations.

Special thanks goes out to the people on the RaidSecrets discord, u/ABagOfPowder, u/Pirogoeth_, and Dzho for suggestions, testing, and measuring bars.

Thank you @nev_rtheless for helping to copy edit and sanity check me.

DIM for their help with sword stats & troubleshooting, and an awesome tool to help identify exactly which armor I needed for every test.

And thank you clan WIPE...? for putting up with my testing. I'm sure they never want to hear this again: "Hey, who wants to sit in a Nightmare hunt or strike for an hour while I take damage and record clips?"

    EDIT:

Holy %@&^#, you all are crazy with the rewards! Thank you very much!

"Your light fades away" should be replaced by "Your darkness has consumed you" when dying in a restricted zone with stasis equiped

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 06:49 PM PDT

I think it would be a nice little detail for when your using darkness subclasses and the lore behind is is that when you die in a restricted zone you lose control of your darkness and it eats you for failing to survive and thus following sword logic.

Yes I know a little bit of it plays during Crucible's Bannerfall map as well, but I think all of us could agree that it should be played in its full glory.

One of the best parts of things getting vaulted is the tone of the game has fully shifted since release.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:08 AM PDT

In the base game and in curse of osiris, the tone of the game was pretty cringy. It was like they were trying to be a marvel movie but without the jokes often landing. Removing the red war and curse of osiris will remove the tone that no longer fits inside the current world. Narratively, I'm pretty happy about that.

Been playing constantly, every single week of going to Xur, and I finally got them from a Master NF. They actually have good stat distribution too! I immediately MW'd them. Hopefully they don't get kill nerfed in beyond light, but for now I'm really relieved.

Bungie, Ghost 2.0 is awesome but we really need the ability to save loadouts.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 06:00 AM PDT

I dunno about yall but I'm really tired if having to micromanage my mods between every activity. And I'm on PC so I cant imagine having to do it on console with the loading times. Im excited for Ghost 2.0 but this is going to make the problem even worse with all the different activity focused mods.

I’m not sure if xur’s is bugged or not but he is selling a 2 intellect apotheosis veil.

iirc, a TWAB said that the apotheosis veil would have a minimum of 16 intellect from that point in after the TWAB. But xur is selling a 2 intellect roll which contradicts what the TWAB said.

Just curious as to what's going on.

Also idk what flair to put

Destiny's lore and story MIGHT be a retelling of Ragnarok!

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 10:25 AM PDT

So I can't actually prove any of this but there are some pretty interesting similarities between Destiny's lore and Norse Mythology. So, understand this is all more or less speculation and theory. What I intend to do however is provide the evidence to support my theory and ask you simply keep an open mind while reading. I don't believe this is going to be a perfect retelling of the Norse mythology but a Retelling or play on the concept at the very least.

I began my research into this possible madness after noticing the pattern of rock that circles the floor around Eris Morn where she stands under the Tree of Silver Wings. I couldn't shack the feeling that it looked familiar somehow but I couldn't make out the pattern properly due to the available angels we can see it from. So I started to take screenshots and piecing together a sort of make-shift recreation. It's a circle, with nine different inner and outer rings, some connected at different points. When I'd finished making my recreation on some paper I realized it. It made what looks like a Maze, not just any maze tho. Troy Town or Turf Maze. So I did a little research and found this quote.

In popular legend, the walls of the city of Troy were constructed in such a confusing and complex way that any enemy who entered them would be unable to find his way out. Welsh hilltop turf mazes were called "Caerdroia", which can be translated as "City of Troy"

So I started to wonder, why would Bungie put a "Troy Town" Under the Tree? That seemed like a lot of extra work for such a minor detail that's been totally overlooked so far right? In my mind, it had to mean something. I thought it would probably just be a funny easter egg? So I did some more looking around the area and found an Ahamkara's skull hidden away. Strange right?

Ahamkara skulls don't just randomly show up anywhere else as far as I could recall that didn't have some significance. Then like an angry Seige Breaker, a flaming hammer of Sol hit me. Here we had a giant Silver tree, with someone standing under it giving knowledge, surrounded by bones, pools of water, and a hidden Troy Town under it. This tree, it was Yggdrasil, Eris was Mimir and the Bones were Jormungandr or perhaps Níðhǫggr. From there, pieces of a secret puzzle began falling into place. Here are what I believe are the most important similarities.

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök (/ˈræɡnəˌrɒk, ˈrɑːɡ-/ (📷listen))[2][3][4] is a series of events, including a great battle, foretold to lead to the death of a number of great figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdallr, and Loki), natural disasters and the submersion of the world in water. After these events, the world will resurface anew and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors.

Ragnarok is also called The Destiny of the God's. The great battle could be the Fallens invasion of earth. We saw in the D2 release trailer a part where hundreds of people are underwater.

Odin (/ˈoʊdɪn/;[1] from Old Norse: Óðinn, IPA: [ˈoːðinː]) is a widely revered god in Germanic mythology. Norse mythology, the source of most surviving information about him, associates Odin with wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and project him as the husband of the goddess Frigg.

Odin uses a Spear called Gungnir

According to the Poetic Edda, the spear was fashioned by the Dwarves

Rasputin uses Poetry to communicate with us within some Adventures. He's an AI with untold knowledge of the Golden Age and its Tech. Rasputin in Real life was Royalty. Odin only has 1 eye and the Rasputin AI has 1 giant Red "eye" when we see him in person. Rasputin uses the Valkarie which in-game looks like a Spear A Valkarie is a female figure who

Who choose's those who may die in battle and those who may live.

Odin had visions in Mythology which I think we can connect to Rasputin's ability to predict threats before they arise within the system. Odin also had two Ravens which he used to gather information, not unlike Rasputins War-Sat Network

In Germanic mythology, a dwarf is a human-shaped (usually bearded) entity that dwells in mountains and in the earth and is variously associated with wisdom, smithing, mining, and crafting.

Breytech has most of its important locations on Mars, a rather mountainous planet. Breytech "Smithed/Crafted" Weapons and tech. Anna and Elsie Bray could represent the Brothers Brokkr and Eitri.

Yggdrasil is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In both sources, Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is center to the cosmos and considered very holy.

Ash Tree's are "White" and the Tree in-game is also whitelist silver in color. Guardians consider the Tree of Silver Wings "Holy" to some extent

The Æsir /ˈaɪsɪər/[1] are the gods of the principal pantheon) in Norse religion. I'm going to be honest, finding good reliable info of this is harder then I thought but I think it's simply a play on words but there are some connections to be discussed.

    The Halls of Valhalla

In chapter 4 of the Prose Edda, Gangleri says that Odin seems to be quite a powerful lord, as he controls quite a big army, but he yet wonders how the Einherjar keep themselves busy when they are not drinking. High replies that daily, after they've dressed and put on their war gear, they go out to the courtyard and battle one another in one-on-one combat for sport.

Lord Shaxx could then be seen as Gangleri and the Daily Battles as the Crucible.

Scandinavian variants of the name (such as Faroese Lokki, Danish Lokkemand, Norwegian Loke and Lokke, Swedish Luki and Luku, along with Finnish Lukki) point to an origin in the Germanic root \luk-,* which denoted things to do with loops (like knots, hooks, closed-off rooms, and locks).

Perhaps such as the 3-week cycle of the Dreaming City? Loki is also a Trickster and Uldren uses cunning and tricks to win any fight we see him in within the Lore opting to use his intellect to compensate for what he lacks in strength. This would also make sense giving the fact Uldren ( though being controlled by Savathun) uses Tricks to help get Cayde-6 killed. I find this exchange within the Poetic Edda rather telling.

Frigg, Baldr's mother: "You know, if I had a son like Balder, sitting here with me in Aegir's hall, in the presence of these gods, I declare you would never come outalive, you'd be killed shortly."

Loki: "You must want me to recount even more of my mischief, Frigg. After all, I'm the one who made it so that Balder will never ride home again."

I think we could assume Ikora would be Frigg in this exchange and the part about "Never ride home" could be seen as how Uldren killed Cayde-6.

Baldur Is called "the most Beloved" of the Norse gods. I think that sighting Cayde-6 as Baldur would be rather poetic and fitting given I believe Uldren to be Loki. Also, we have this quote from the Prose Edda.

The second son of Odin is Baldur, and good things are to be said of him. He is best, and all praise him; he is so fair of feature, and so bright, that light shines from him.

We know Cayde-6 was a Goldgun/Blade Barrage Hunter ( the Solar Sub-classes) and within a single Lore card referred to as potentially being Rasputin himself. We know Felwinter WAS the son of Rasputin. This could be a play on the idea that Cayde-6 was the "Second son of Odin" Who I sighted as being Rasputin.

In Germanic religion and Germanic mythology, a seeress is a woman said to have the ability to foretell future occurrences.

Makes me wonder why she's the one we meet under the Tree to gain insight into the messages from the Darkness.

In chapter 15 of the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning, as owner of his namesake well, Mímir himself drinks from it and gains great knowledge. To drink from the well, he uses the Gjallarhorn

Mimir lives under Yggdrasil, or in our case the Tree of Silver Wings, the place we meet her once a week for the Means to an End quest.

Side Notes:Jotunn refers to Jotunheim which are the Giants from Norse Mythology.Le Monarque translates to The Monarch, a Royal Ruler but also a type of Butterfly which is depicted as a Black Armory Founding Family and shown on the Bow.

Tradition views the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. Symbolically, butterflies are creatures with the ability to transcend the ordinary and take flight into the heavens.

Izanagi's Burden refers to a god from Japanese mythology

The Kojiki portrays Izanagi and his younger twin sister Izanami as the seventh and final generation of deities that manifested after the emergence of the first group of gods, the Kotoamatsukami, when heaven and earth came into existence.[5]

The Ghallerhorn was the Warhorn used by Heimdallr to mark the beginning of Ragnarok.

The JadeRabbit is based on Chines Mythology

So that's everything I've compiled so far but I'm looking deeper into this to see what if any other references, connections, and details I can potentially uncover. If you know ANYTHING at all that could help further this theory PLEASE share it in the comments below.

There's a not-insignificant chance this entire year of content has been part of that Darkness hallucination at the end of Shadowkeep.

We never saw how we got back out of the Pyramid. Black Garden confrontation Just suddenly ends with us dropped into Sanctuary like in a dream.

Eris gets back from her Europa skiing trip to find us curled around the Darkness ball, murmuring about Seraph tower basketball and Gambit being a public event.
"Stir from your cursed sleep, Guardian. The Red Legion are planning a desperate final push against the City."

If you don't have the matterscourge ornament for outbreak, I highly suggest you get it.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 08:57 AM PDT

Even if you don't like the actual ornament, it changes the sights to be a single red dot.

This makes it much easier (at least in my experience) to hit precision shots. I know lots don't like 'messy' sights, or just anything that's not a dot.

So if you like outbreak, but aren't a massive fan of the sights, I'd get the ornament.

If they made a rat king skin called Charlie Kelly I’d buy it so fast

Grinding Grandmaster Nightfall: The Ordeal Strikes this week has been some of the best feelings I’ve had from this game in a long time.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:58 PM PDT

Full disclosure: I still love Destiny 2 and this franchise, and I wasn't feeling bad about playing it.

It's just that the grind during Grandmaster Strikes felt so good at the end. At one point, I got four Ascendant Shards, a couple of Exotic Armor pieces, Enhancement Prisms, etc. and that felt like a great value proposition for my time whilst also having fun.

I always say you should play games to have fun, but if I can have fun and feel rewarded for my time too, then I'm more likely to do that over just pure fun.

The rewards from these Strikes though just harken back to doing Raids on Hard Mode during Destiny 1. You would get showered with loot that could (or couldn't) be useful, but at least it was all upper tier for the most part.

I'm having a blast this week, and I hope everyone else is having similar sentiments.

Whatever Bungie adds or takes away in the future, I hope they never remove the View Legacy node

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 07:21 PM PDT

Instead, please expand it! It's so refreshing to look and reminisce on the memories we've made and the guardians we made them with. Some of these guardians have moved on from this world and it's a nice reminder of their legacy.

Towerthought: Wearing a mask during Festival of the Lost will take on new meaning this year.

If I had to guess, the Traveler mask probably adds the most protection....
