Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:12 PM PDT EDIT: I made a poor title. Oops. What it should be is "Believing Variks caused Cayde's death, and therefore that Variks is bad, is a disservice to Variks' character. Variks is an extremely intricate character, and I believe him to be Destiny's most intricate character. His lore is often focused on himself and his thoughts- one of my favourite lore pieces is this one. This Variks-focused lore allows us to see his thoughts. And those thoughts show us that he's a good guy. Variks is not evil. He never has been. Variks is a very delicately written grey character. Destiny is a game where the majority of the world revolves around your character, and funnily enough often the most interesting parts are where the world isn't revolving your character. The Osmium Trio, Mara Sov, and Variks are the most interesting things to me. I feel like this is because they break the mold (as well as their superb writing). But this post is about Variks. Variks, his entire life, has been a believer that the Fallen are Fallen from grace (as per their name). He has always wanted to unite them, to bring them back to strength. This isn't because he wants to destroy humanity and whatnot, but because he is an individual of a broken race. He believes that, given time and effort, Eliksni will stop their pirate and cutthroat nature and go back to their once-honourable lives. However, Variks understands the threat this could have against humanity. As such, he assists us in tracking down the most dangerous of Eliksni individuals so they cannot rise to power. Skolas. Taniks. Aksor. Variks helped us constantly. However, Variks wanted his people to grow stronger. He knew they were shattered, and one day decided that he shall become Kell of Kells to unite them once again. This was not an act against humanity, and he is vehemently against the Eliksni fighting both among themselves and against humanity.
Variks did what he did out of loyalty. The Awoken monarchy has done him so many favours- they've housed him, protected him, given him ownership of the Prison of Elders (the Queen's trophy room no less). Variks is an extremely honourable individual, and it would've been so, so against his character to let so many good deeds go unrewarded. That's why he let Uldren out. It was a final act of goodwill Variks didn't know that Cayde was going to be an imbecile and explode himself, us, and a large amount of the Prison of Elders in order to have a cool moment in front of Petra. Oryx and Cayde both share the same trait in that they rushed into things foolishly, and it caused both of their deaths. The release of every single inmate in the Prison of Elders was a required cover for Variks' disappearance, as well as Uldren and the Barons escaping too. Variks knows how much of a threat he is to the Guardians, because he is something that is not only under the protection of the Awoken monarchy, but also because he is an Eliksni ally. Eliksni aren't meant to be trusted, and even the Praxic Order wants him to be detained- however, we trust him even though it'd be easy for him to harm us incredibly so. He deliberately made himself seem less threatening by lying about his English skills- he's incredibly capable, in comparison to what he once showed us. He doesn't want to harm us. He's not a villain. Variks is an incredibly written character. He is not evil, yet he is not specifically good. He is, for a lack of better term, selfish- he does everything to bring the Fallen back to power. He doesn't care what we do, as long as it helps him. This can be building trust with him, or giving him assets, or taking out key assets. He's a legitimate friend and believes us to be one too. All he's doing is keeping himself and his species as safe as possible, and he knows how dangerous Guardians can be, so why would he attack us? It'd go against our established relationship with him, as well as his entire character- he doesn't want Fallen to be warmongers! It makes no sense to believe him to be evil because he caused Cayde's death, or because he's bringing the Fallen back to power, or because he's with Eramis (he's a hostage, mind you). He's a friend. Be nice to him. [link] [comments] |
Honestly, I’m kind of let down with how the “Year 3 narrative” played out. Posted: 28 Sep 2020 09:10 AM PDT When Shadowkeep came out, we were told about this overarching storyline that would permeate all of Year 3, and that the finale Season, which is the current one, would end with a bang that we wouldn't want to miss. In my opinion, I didn't really feel that during much of this Year. A lot of the narratives felt disjointed like the rest of Destiny narratives, but even more so because of how little content was actually dedicated to each facet. Season of the Worthy was the biggest example of this: it was dedicated to a dangling plot thread that didn't really do anything to change the world at all. Even learning about Rasputin and Felwinter's relationship, while cool, doesn't feel like it matters in the grand scheme of things. The only part that seems to have mattered in Season of the Worthy was the lead-up to Season of Arrivals, where we were finding out every week that the Pyramid Ships were getting closer and closer to our system. Season of Undying into Season of Dawn did feel connected narratively, but the jump into Season of the Worthy kind of broke this storyline apart and it downplayed some significant events of Season of Dawn, like the return of Saint-14 and the decimation of the Red Legion (please move on from these guys Bungie. At least a new Cabal fleet would be nice.). The "big bang" of Season of Arrivals was a treat to behold: the arrival of the Pyramid Ships, and the purging of all of the Y1 Destinations. However, it doesn't feel like anything we did in the previous three Seasons had any effect whatsoever on this storyline. We knew about the Pyramid Ships in Shadowkeep, but we didn't do much to prepare for their army invading our system. We had the Unknown Artifact from Garden of Salvation too that seemed to not matter in the long run (to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong). I hope the Year 4 narrative does find a way to become more connected in a linear fashion. EDIT: Thanks for the kind awards! [link] [comments] |
Content vault warning: LAST CHANCE for Wayfarer title Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:14 PM PDT Today is the last chance to get your Wayfarer title if you haven't started yet. Please stop putting up "(raid) kwtd" posts if half your team doesnt kwtd Posted: 28 Sep 2020 10:26 AM PDT I know this is a rant and i am sorry but I need to vent. Wanted to do a quick raid today (GoS). Now looked on lfg and saw a GoS kwtd post. Joined and we did the first part okay. Halfway through I realise that half of these guys have never done a raid. Because for some reason I saw a lot of sacrifeces on Consecrated mind. After asking why they didnt defend i got the anwser "what do you mean defend?" Its just really deceptive as most people joining a kwtd post expect the other people to know too. I am also not talking about need a teacher please kwtd. Thats ok. But only have a limited time to play and really sucks when people do shit like that. At least mention that you need a teacher. Thanks a lot and sorry for the rant [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Sep 2020 06:00 PM PDT Hi, everyone! I modeled, textured and animated my first Destiny Exotic Weapon Fan-Art based on u/PlainBen 's design after seeing his post here on Reddit and asking him if it was cool to work on some of his designs: https://imgur.com/gallery/o2MgOtm YouTube: https://youtu.be/oJRAwCPOxlM Soul Breaker: An Exotic Heavy Soulfire-based Hive Sword, from Season Of The Scheming Queens: We were foolish to think the shard Eris gave The Guardian was the last trace of The Willbreaker. Oryx has trascended his design once again, and empowered what remained of his sword with the will of the the deep, to rage on in this paracausal debate. Lore: "The Taken War was not the move of a calculating king, but that of an angry father." - Toland, the Shattered. Intrinsic Perk: "King's Anger" Successful continuous strikes attach a draining Soulfire blight for each fallen ally. Press [Heavy] to detonate blights. Original Design: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bkf3LkRgqqo/ Taken Ghaul Ost Edit by ALEXOP https://youtu.be/1NR9JutMoZs Based on Bungie's work: Destiny OST - Regicide Destiny 2 OST - Dominus Ghaul UI template by @DeltaDesignss based on Bungie's work. ————————- YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/oJRAwCPOxlM Some of my work: https://www.instagram.com/luis.e.sierra/ https://www.facebook.com/luis.sierra.da https://luis-sierra.artstation.com I worked on this throughout the week, and thought of ways to expand upon the initial design with the Willbreaker Shards, breathing and pulsating Hive Gills, and an imaginary SoulFire subclass (and season icon) for the subsequent expansion trilogy. This is part of a bigger project, and I plan on doing 5 more plain.ben weapons in the middle to short term. I hope you like it! (b'u')b [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Sep 2020 08:27 AM PDT In the Verge article previewing the Series X there are details on Destiny 2's performance. The author mentions that performance is identical to a PC with an NVMe SSD. Full article: https://www.theverge.com/21458254/microsoft-xbox-series-x-load-times-performance-gameplay-preview Note: This performance is with the current, unoptimized live game. Bungie have said that Beyond Light will include optimizations for both consoles, so expect even better performance after Nov 10. [link] [comments] |

Guardians should look at their Ghost when it's summoned in the Tower. Posted: 28 Sep 2020 03:37 PM PDT It would be such a subtle change, but it would show your Guardian actually paying attention to it. It looks like a guardian is disconnected from their Ghost when they interact with it... It's kinda creepy how they're just staring straight ahead. Just food for thought I guess! I figured since you guys are deep in development and starting to show some love for our beloved friends, maybe you can throw in this tweak to make it that much more personal. Thanks for all your hard work, Bungie. I for one am INCREDIBLY pumped for the new expansion. [link] [comments] |
Bungie please make it so ball lightning actually counts as a melee attack Posted: 28 Sep 2020 10:31 AM PDT As it stands right now even if you hit an enemy with the attack point blank it doesn't count as a melee attack. Because of this mods like impact induction don't work with it. What's even weirder is that it does count when you're using Monte Carlo being able to get the 5 stacks of Markov chain when killing an enemy with it. [link] [comments] |
Bungie, can we get double tokens, maybe triple tokens for Iron Banner Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:01 PM PDT After more than 2000 tokens I'm still looking for a good roll on my armor set, and since is good for a year I would love to get a complete set that I can actually use. So yes all I'm asking is, can we get double tokens, maybe triple tokens for Iron Banner? That would help a lot of us that don't play a lot of iron banner or just not lucky enough to get a good roll on armor or guns [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Sep 2020 05:58 PM PDT Nolan North has his own Cameo profile and for $70 you can request a personalised message. Thought this was cool, Nolan North is incredibly talented. EDIT: There are actually quite a few voice actors from Destiny on Cameo. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Sep 2020 05:48 PM PDT I'm not entirely caught up on the lore behind SIVA, Rasputin, etc (I'll have to catch up on some Byf videos later), but I think it's pretty interesting nonetheless, and we have had some awesome weapons come from it. Outbreak and Sleeper are obviously the heavy hitters, and while Ikelos weapons have been around for awhile now, SIVA does seem to be quite unique enough to be exclusive to exotic weapons (apart from a few raid weapons in D1). As far as I'm aware anyhow, Ikelos weapons have no real ties to SIVA and are rather manufactured by Braytech (based on Warmind schematics and protocol)? That being said, how about some more SIVA weapons? I'd love to see what bungie can do with the idea of a SIVA trace rifle. The obvious question is the element, but naturally I'd assume it'd be categorized as solar (taking after Outbreak and Sleeper). Trace rifles have been getting some love lately, yes, but I think it would be an awesome addition to the bunch. What do you guys think and/or would love to see added as a SIVA weapon?
